BIS 401/402 reminders

BIS 401 Students must apply for acceptance of their

internship or research paper. After approval, the college registers the student for the class.

BIS 402 Students must have a grade posted of C or

better in BIS 301, and have BIS 302 completed or in progress to register for BIS 402. There is a guarantee that students can take BIS 402 in their final semester, even if all sections are full (though addition to a full BIS 402 section won’t be cleared if there are other section options).

CSRC UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWS PROGRAM – Fall 2012

DEADLINE: MARCH 1, 2012, 5:00 pm As part of the Center's mission to serve as a research hub that fosters

exchange and collaboration across the university, the undergraduate research fellows program focuses on providing a rich interdisciplinary atmosphere for student development. The Center is seeking eight to ten highly motivated undergraduate students to participate in its Fall 2012 Undergraduate Research Fellows Program.

Students accepted into the program will have an opportunity to work directly

with a faculty mentor on current research projects involving religion and conflict, meet with visiting scholars and attend special lectures, compete for research, travel and conference funds, and qualify for three credit hours and a scholarship of $1000. (Minimum GPA 3.5)

We are very pleased to announce a new scholarship opportunity for research/travel funds up to $2,500. The awards are designed to deepen student’s practical knowledge and understanding about religion, conflict and peace building through attendance at reputable, internationally-oriented peace building training programs or to support research activities that advance understanding of the intersections of religion and conflict.

These awards are made possible through the generous support of the Friends

of the Center, a group of private individuals committed to advancing the research and education mission of the Center. Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to apply for these awards for activities to be carried out in Summer 2012.

Body Image – Did You Know? Most ASU students are pleased and accepting of their body shape, size, and appearance. 65.3% of ASU female students, 74% of ASU male students feel pleased/accepting when looking in the mirror to evaluate their body.

◦ Body image influences self-esteem. ◦ Throughout the lifespan, multiple factors influence body image. ◦ Preoccupation with food, weight and appearance harms health, relationships and personal

development. ◦ On campus help is available for body image and eating concerns. ◦ To increase body acceptance, unlearn body dissatisfaction.

Have a Safe and Healthy Spring Break 2012 Be smart, know your limits. 75.1% of ASU students have 0-4 drinks when they socialize.* If you engage in sexual activities, use protection and make sure there is mutual consent. Choose not to drink if you are underage, stressed or tired, driving, or need to be alert. Protect yourself from the sun. Use sunscreen, sunglasses and hats. Avoid tanning beds. Watch out for yourself and others. Stick together, keep each other safe.

Writing Opportunity With ASU

Superstition Review, the online literary magazine here at ASU is looking to grow the magazine by partnering with other schools outside of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and they are looking for Interdisciplinary Studies students who would meet their needs. The magazine is particularly interested in reaching out to students studying business and English who would be interested in developing a business plan for Superstition Review.
