April, 1973 in New York City. However, the

mobile phone did not gain common usage

in the United States until early 1980's.

From the onset, mobile phones were used

simply for receiving and making calls,

sending and receiving texts messages.

Modern revolutionary developments have

since evolved in making the phone such a

versatile communication gadget that it has

become a necessity for life that people can

hardly do anything without one. This

versatile electronic gadget can be used for

performing different tasks.

Today, many mobile phones now have

several features that perform differentfunctions capable of enhancing modernlifestyle, from serving as a phone, camera,

recorder, direction finder (navigator),

timepiece (clock), organizer, diary, flash

light, health regulator, music library, etc.

Further phenomenal developments have

brought about 'smartphones’ beingdescribed as “multi-tasking,” enabling the

user to do different tasks at the same time.

Quite a number of mobile phones now

have in-built internet facilities that allow

sending and receiving e-mails, and

browsing the websites. One can use a

'smartphone' to view and edit documents

through Ms-office file and can be used as a

notepad. The phone can also serve as a

wallet and could be used for payment as a

credit or debit card.

People using mobile phone cameras now

have the ability to expose social ills such as

human right abuses. For example, in 2007,

videos and photos of monks and citizens

marching for greater freedom in Burma

shot by individuals using mobile-phone

cameras spread throughout the world in

hours. Before now this used to take several

weeks. Mobile phones are cheaper,

smaller and more portable than other

digital devices. It enables an increasing

number of people torecord a live event and immediately post it

to the internet through a mobile network.

More than 60 per cent of the world's

mobile phone users are in developing

countries, with Africa having the highest

mobile phone growth rate. About 1 in 50 Africans had a mobile phone

at the beginning of the 1990s but today the

ratio is about 1 in 4.

Current statistics indicate that about 50%

of the world's population has access to

mobile phones, compared to 10% for

personal computers.

Today there are nearly 4 billion mobile

phone subscribers and the growth is

phenomenal.

recently announced another feature called KnockCode. This is a special code you set on your device and once that particular sequence of KnockCode is initiated on your phone, it comes on. The KnockCode feature is now available on the recently announced LG L series III. The devices in the series are Lg40, LG 70 and LG 90.

LG Introduces KnockOn and KnockCodeThe KnockOn feature allows you to lock and unlock the device by simply double tapping on the screen of the device.

This feature was first introduced in LG G2. When the phone is locked or in sleep mode, simply KnockOn the screen twice and it pops up.

RLG Group, one of Nigeria’s leading ICT devices manufacturing company, has unveiled its new assembly plant in Ilesha, Osun State, Nigeria. The $50 Million (N7,500,000,000) facility has the capacity to produce 5,000 mobile phones and2,500 laptops per day.

The plant was commissioned by the state Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola in January. The facility also has a training centre, research & development (R & D) laboratory and
