Service-Learning Consultant Workshop Outline

Title: AS Outdoor Center Challenge Course Marketing ProgramDevelopment: Ropes course equipment (slack line, Whale Watching balance, facilitator prop bag), tables and chairs, balloons and decorations, food and drinks, marketing pamphlet and coupons, chalkOrganizational Pattern: Chronological Organization

Introduction & WelcomeI. (Attention Getter) Who likes the Challenge Program? Of course you do! You are all facilitators and

know about the program! II. (Audience Adaptation) Unfortunately, many others do not have the knowledge you do about how fun

and beneficial the AS Outdoor Center Challenge program can be! III. (Specific Purpose) We want to show you how you can get involved and help market this program! IV. (Overall Goal & Benefit of Workshop) Most people at Western and in the Bellingham community are

outdoorsy and the AS Outdoor Center Challenge program is the perfect place to get outside, have some fun and perhaps build some team bonds at the same time.

V. (Learning Outcomes of Workshop) We want you as facilitators understand how you as individuals and

as a team can help to promote the Challenge Program not only for the AS Outdoor Center but for yourselves as well; the more you market, the more people book programs and the more you work and get paid to do what you love!

VI. (Preview) Today we will talk about why we about how we approached this project and how we want

you to build upon our ideas.A. First, we will talk about the marketing breakdown of audiences we want to reach.B. Second, we will talk about our specific ideas and the ones we implemented and how it

turned out.C. Third, we will talk about the future and how we see the AS Outdoor Center continuing

to market the challenge program to increase awareness.

Transition: The first step to every great marketing strategy is a solid plan and backing.

SL Workshop Project and Final Draft 4

Body II. We want to start by breaking down how we thought about the marketing for this program.

A. Why were we given this project to work on for the AS Outdoor Center?1. There needs to be an increase in program visibility so that people know about it.

a.Tabling and flyer distribution are a great way to easily grab attention.b. Hosting an event is also a great way to let people try out the type of things the Challenge program offers.

2. Increase program participation is essential to keep this amazing program running!a. Raising awareness of what is offered will help bring people out to the course.b. Providing them a small example of what is offered at event so they know what

they are getting themselves into is helpful.c. Distributing Coupons to spur participation since the cost might deter some

people from joining in.B. Marketing to teams and individuals is a good way to focus marketing and make it more

effective.1. Teams will be better for the high and low ropes course out at Lakewood.

a. Serve as a teambuilding event for sports teams and clubs and other groups.b. They would benefit from learning team building exercises and communication building.c. Teams already hold bonding events such as RA’s and other staffs to aid in bonding.

2. Individual students need to use the program to network and try new things so the on campus programs would be best.

a. Student body is largely unaware of what the course offered.b. Represents the largest portion of WWU population.

-Provides the largest area of growth potential3. Faculty are also a group that needs bonding events to maintain communication.

a. Each department holds bonding events each year and this could be one of them.

b. The ropes course provides a cheap, fun, and safe option.

Transition: After establishing our target market, we decided to implement some of the ideas to test them out and see how they would work while also collecting feedback from actual participants on it!

SL Workshop Project and Final Draft 5

III. Ideas are all about the implementation so we want to share with you some of our brainstorming and what we did with it.

A. We had a lot of ideas because currently the AS Outdoor Center doesn’t promote the program that much.

1. Fliers/posters are very visual and can be put everywhere. 2.Events on campus to try out activities and promote the programs. 3. Taking students on an excursion to the ropes course as an event can get people who don’t have transportation or a big group out to the course.

B. Implementing ideas was part of our project so we could give better recommendations as to what might work in the future!

1. We tabled in Red Square for three days in the afternoon. a. Increases awareness that the course is offered by talking to people as they passed by. b.Distribute coupons to increase participation on advertising and fliers.

2. The communication’s event was to do two things.a. Allow students to participate and experience ropes course features, even those that have disabilities as the new Whale Watch is accessible to everyoneb. Provides them with a preview of what the actual course is like and will hopefully lure them to the real thing!

Transition: Although this project was successful, marketing is not a one time event. It is continuous and ever changing so that it keeps working into the future.

IV. We hope that the future will be bright with some of the ideas that we have for marketing.A. We want to keep increasing awareness of and participation in the Challenge Program.

1. Regularly scheduled events on campus and at the Lakewood location will keep participation up.2. Teams, and groups continued involvement through return users of the program will boost activity as well.

B. The Challenge program visible and accessible to everyone in the WWU community.1. knowledge of the program via posters, and word of mouth will be developed and clear.2. Anyone interested will have access to the activities and Lakewood course: sign up

sheets, regular events, carpools set up, etc.

SL Workshop Project and Final Draft 6

V. What we took away from this experience was a hands on lesson on how marketing works and why.A. We learned how to market and established program on campus to students who usually tune out marketing.

1. Brainstorm ideas helped to generate the best ideas that we possibly could.2. Work with Jonathan to make posters, fliers, and set up events allowed us to use all

the resources we had available to make it the best that we could.B. We learned how to work professionally as a service-learning team and we think that you can as well!

1. Business Writing, and professional communication in agendas and a bit of organization.

2. Timeline and deadline importance so that things are accomplished to a great standard!C. We learned about the AS Outdoor Center, Challenge Program which is something that not all of us had participated in.

1. We were lucky to learn about what the OC offers, we checked out the Lakewood course, met a lead facilitator, learned the mission of the program which is to give the WWU community a resource for building teamwork and life skills applicable to the academic university setting and the workforce world.2. We are now huge supporters and advocates for the program!

Transition to conclusion: This has been a fun and interactive service learning experience for our team.

V. Conclusion We think that developing and implementing a marketing plan will help you in the future to market the AS Outdoor Center Challenge Program.

A. First we talked about our goal to develop a marketing plan to help the Outdoor Center Challenge Program gain visibility and broaden program participation.

B. Second we talked about our marketing ideas for each our audience through posters, fliers, and information both visual and hands on (facilitators, mini ropes course) at our events.

C. Third we talked about what the future will look like for the outdoor center. That challenge program will be well known and accessible to the community at WWU!

Erika Duncan900 22nd StreetBellingham, WA 98225 May 6th, 2014 Jonathan Mayfield516 High Street, VUBellingham, WA 98225 Dear Mr. Jonathan Mayfield: Our group would like to personally extend our deepest gratitude for the kindness and support you have shown us this quarter. We feel like not only did we connect with you on a professional level but a personal level as well and that made this project so much more enjoyable. The outdoor center offers a wide range of opportunities for the WWU community to gain life skills and the challenge program. At the beginning of the quarter, you offered to spend time showing us the ropes course out at Lakewood to have us experience the program first hand. This valuable insight not only bonded us as a team but it also allows us to market the program more effectively. Having first hand knowledge allowed us to get to know the Outdoor Center, what you expected of us and how we can best deliver the intended result. We have been able to implement our learning about effective meetings and practice, which has been a great opportunity. Developing and implementing this workshop for the AS Outdoor Center allowed us hands on experience with working with a professional organization in the community as well as fine-tuning teamwork skills; collaboration, managing conflict and coming to consensus decisions. Implemented concepts that we learned from Professional Communicatons 318 that lead to group success were meeting management, professional multi-channel communication and embracing diversity within a group. Throughout our learning process, you gave us the flexibility to encourage creativity and independent work. Your encouragement allowed us to feel comfortable taking charge of the project and taking it in any direction that we saw fit. It helped us to try out our ideas, and be responsible for the outcome without relying on a supervisor. Self direction is important in service learning projects and will help us in our positions in the future to feel confident in taking charge and striving out on our own. It encouraged us to create our own vision, goals and to push for the success that we desire.

We hope that the service-learning teams that you work with in the future can have as amazing an experience as we had working with you. The time and effort you put in was what made this learning experience so successful for us and we can’t thank you enough. Sincerely, Erika Duncan, Taylor Hulse, Cody Chwaszczewski, Alexandra HauptAppendix :Individual Reflections

TAYLOR HULSE Reflection

1. Your reflection on the outcome of the workshop:

This workshop represented the culmination of all of our hard work over the course of the quarter. Each of us spent countless hours investing time, money, and manpower to ensure that both the needs of the AS Outdoor Center and our class requirements were met. When we first were tasked with creating and implementing a marketing plan for the AS Outdoor Center Challenge course, knowledge among the student body in regards to what was offered was almost non existent. Out of the many students that we spoke with, few had even a base knowledge of where the program was located let alone what was offered. Many of the students were also completely unaware of what a challenge course even entailed. Our goal was to not only put on a workshop, that would provide facilitators better ideas on how to reach their market, but rather to host an event ourselves and gain first hand experience on what works and what doesn't. This allowed us to provide these facilitators with practical advice and guidance based on personal experience in helping to market the program. In the end I truly believe that the impact we had on the AS Outdoor center challenge course was overwhelmingly positive. We were able to create a multi-channel marketing campaign that reached each portion of our target market, students, faculty, and teams. In addition to this we were able to gain valuable experience in event planning and execution. Our end goal was to provide them with a plan that could be executed long after our service learning project ends. This is something that I believe we accomplished. Future teams will be able to build off of our success and bring new blood into the marketing of the outdoor center. Each section within our presentation was backed up by personal hands on experience. We strongly believe that should the AS outdoor center challenge program seek to follow our advice, the recognition and popularity of the Challenge program will skyrocket. Based on this I believe that our workshop was a massive success.

2. What have you gained from the project?

One of the things that made me the most excited about working on this project was hosting a final event that allowed individuals to come out and experience the AS Outdoor center ropes course for themselves. Event planning was something that I have had very little experience with. Throughout my experience with the Outdoor Center I was able to gain valuable event planning experience while being able to use my deep experience in marketing to help make the event as popular as possible. In addition to the valuable experience gained in event planning, I also gained a deep passion for collaborative group work. I have always liked working in groups but after my experience with the project I have found a great passion for it. I truly believe that the creation and implementation of both our marketing strategies and event would not have been possible without the tireless hard work of my team as well as myself. Without them such a successful result would not have been possible. This project demonstrated the capability of what a well functioning team can accomplish and instilled a passion for teamwork within myself.

3. Successes and challenges of the workshop and project?

Like in any project there were plenty of good times a well as plenty of trying times. Overall I would describe our impact and experiences with our community partner as extremely successful. One of the areas in which we were most successful came in the area of effective delegation of tasks among group members. Often throughout the project, each member was delegated specific tasks that needed to be accomplished in order to maintain progress and ensure deadlines we not missed. I believe that this

SL Workshop Project and Final Draft 18success could best be seen in our final event on the communications lawn. Each member was responsible for fulfilling key roles that would ensure that the event was properly executed. Because of our responsible and effective delegation of group tasks and roles, I believe we were able to host the event with little to no discrepancies. But like with all success, comes challenges. I believe that our greatest challenges arose from our differing schedules. As a result of these differing schedules, finding a time to meet was often difficult as well as time consuming. But this is not something that we allowed to impact the quality of our work or our event. Like any challenges we had to adapt. One thing that we did in particular which helped mitigate the scheduling impact was use google docs. This allowed us to each edit the same document, all from different locations. This allowed us to complete work on our own time instead of having to meet as a group. This allowed us to delegate roles among group members more effectively as well. Like in each project, we experienced both successes and challenges, but I can confidently say that our experiences were overwhelmingly positive.

4. What motivated you to complete the project?

In the end the thing that motivated me the most to complete the project was the people that i was involved in working with. Both my group members as well as the facilitators at the AS Outdoor center. Everyone that we came into contact with throughout the duration of the project was extremely supportive and helpful. The best example of this was when Jonathan volunteered to take our team out to lakewood and experience the challenge course ourselves. This was something that Jonathan was not required to do, but it provided us with hands on experience that we were then able to use in the marketing of both the program and the event. This dedication to the program and our team only helped strengthen our desire to really go above and beyond for the AS Outdoor center. We as a group wanted to give back just as much as they had given to us. This drove us to perform to the best of our abilities and really push for that extra effort when planning and organising our events. Without the tireless work and dedication of those at the AS Outdoor Center, none of this would have been possible.

5. Discuss how you were able to apply the specific course theories/concepts to the SL project,

and your overall experience)

The area in which the course had the greatest impact on our group work was within holding effective and professional meetings. Throughout the experience, one thing that became painfully clear is that my group members and I are extremely outgoing. This is both something that is extremely positive but can also have its negative aspects. On multiple occasions we would become sidetracked during group meetings and find out 10 minutes later that we were no longer discussing a topic that had any bearing on our project. Establishing an agenda, taking meeting minutes, and then following up with each group member proved to be extremely helpful. By using each of these strategies we were able to increase the productivity of our meetings, and decrease the frequency for which they needed to occur. The practice of creating and distributing these documents is certainly something that I will take into future groups and projects in order to increase the efficiency of our meetings and to make sure everyone is current as to what is expected of them. I also believe that another reason that our group was so successful was the diversity among our group. Each member brought their own set of strengths and was able to compliment each member of the team with them. One prime example of this can be found within our group organisation.Organization is something that I have always had to put extra work into to stay organized. In contrast, organization is something that came much easier to Erika than I. This is something that we

SL Workshop Project and Final Draft 19embraced as a group. Each of us brought our own personal strengths to the project and each of us was able to leave a distinct and identifiable mark on the final result.

6. In terms of your overall SL experience, what are you grateful for?

There are a number of things in this experience that i was grateful for. First off I am grateful for the amazing team members that I had the pleasure of working with over the course of the quarter. Each one of us brought our own unique and distinct skill set that allowed us to be so successful in organising and planning such a large event. Secondly we are grateful for being able to work with Jonathan and promote such an amazing program. Jonathan went above and beyond in helping us throughout the duration of the project. Without his tireless hard work and dedication we would never have been able to experience the ropes course ourselves, let alone share what the experience was like with other people. Finally we are so very grateful for the trust and confidence that was bestowed upon us by the entire AS Outdoor Center. Allowing us use of their name as well as part of their budget in organizing both the tabeling and Comm lawn event represented a huge level of trust between our group and the outdoor center. Throughout the whole experience we were so grateful to get to work with such an amazing organization and to be able to leave an impact that would help shape the future of the AS Outdoor Center.

ERIKA DUNCAN Reflection

1. Your reflection on the outcome of the workshop:

I think that our workshop went very well! As a group we accomplished the goals we set out for ourselves, provided the client organization with what they required of us and had fun in the process. Not only did we provide an example of how hard work can make a big impact to get the Challenge Program name out there but we showed the facilitators how they can get involved and hype up the program themselves, for themselves. I also think that it opened the eyes of the AS Outdoor Center as to just how much they were lacking in marketing for the program before hand. These are a bunch of outdoorsy, active people who would much rather be in nature than worrying about raising awareness through ad campaigns. But to do what they love they need to do a little work as well, and I think they see that more clearly now. I also think that our event part of the workshop was successful, but tabling was more so. The event brought in a lot of people but it is hard to pull people into something that will take a bit of time while tabling was quick and easy and many more people stopped by. Something to consider in the future when planning out marketing campaigns.

2. What have you gained from the project?

During this project I really tried to focus on my verbal communication and leadership skills. As a management major, those are two things that I am constantly focused on and group work is a hands on chance for me to put theories into practice outside of the classroom setting. I was able to work on my discomfort with control by trying to empower my teammates in their own work for our group as well as working on facilitating through communication skills. Through collaboration, organization and a clear vision of where we should head, I feel like I lead this team in a productive manner to the end and gained confidence in my leadership abilities and progress in the hard work I have been making towards being more effective as a leader.

SL Workshop Project and Final Draft 20

3. Successes and challenges of the workshop and project?

I think that the success of this project was our ability as a team to develop a vision, plan it and then execute it. Our community partner gave us complete freedom to market the program as we saw fit and we took that and ran with it. Having that much freedom can be challenging because of the lack of structure as well as no boundaries on how much is too much or too little. But as a team we brainstormed, collaborated and executed a solid marketing event flawlessly. Another success was the ability of our team to work together and understand one another. We all had very different styles of communicating and problem solving and to be able to learn those and work through them shows our dedication to the team, the cause and each other.

On the other hand, this project was not without challenges. One of the first challenges was friendship. We all get along extremely well and are all chatty which is distracting from team work. Learning to buckle down then it was necessary was difficult and not always perfect but something we managed to get a grasp of. Another challenge was scheduling. Many of us have jobs outside of school or other service learning projects as well. Setting our weekly meeting was relatively easy but that time seemed to be the only time available to all of us and finding a time outside of that when extra work required extra meetings was challenging. Many times it was only two members of the group as the rest of the team had things come up or couldn’t meet. Learning to work through that and keep the work load even was challenging not only to get the work done but relaying information through all of the moving parts.

4. What motivated you to complete the project?

Personally I am really intrinsically motivated. My mom raised me on the saying, “Do it right or do it till you get it right”. I wanted to do a good job to feel accomplished of myself and say that I can do it, even with twenty credits on my plate and two other service learning projects as well. I was also really motivated by my grade. I have gone all year getting straight A’s when I have never had a 4.0 before ever. I want to aim to finish out the year strong and complete one full year with a 4.0. But the most motivating thing for me was the project itself. I had previously participated in the Challenge Program with a student organization and fell in love with it. I think that one of the main causes of human problems is communication and this program works to combat that, so I am a huge supporter! Anything I could do to get the word out there and increase participation is something I was willing to do!

5. Discuss how you were able to apply the specific course theories/concepts to the SL project,

and your overall experience)

The main learning that we applied was conducting meetings. We had weekly meetings with our team and meetings with Jonathan every other week. Running a meeting went just fine, it was adjusting to the extra work of preparing for the meeting as well as debriefing afterwards that was the challenge. Most people see agendas and such as silly and a waste of time but I can see their importance. We didn’t have official agendas for our team meetings but instead used Facebook as a record of all agreed to assignments, meetings and responsibilities so that people would have something to refer to as well as something to hold them accountable. THis helped keep everyone on the same page and doing the necessary work.

Another thing we used was importance of verbal communication. Our project put us on the front lines of dealing with students and having to represent not only ourselves but the school and AS Outdoor

SL Workshop Project and Final Draft 21Center as well. We needed to communicate clearly and effectively to convey the message we wanted and make sure that they received it the same way we intended. During tabling and our event we really had to be mindful of what we were saying. There was one facilitator who kept saying to people, “Come and play with us!”. From people’s reactions, they thought it was weird and slightly creepy, especially for a male- identified person to be saying to them. I respectfully suggested other ways to get people’s attention and he was much more successful!

6. In terms of your overall SL experience, what are you grateful for?

I think the thing I am most grateful for is my team members. Through really good times and really bad ones, we supported each other, encouraged one another and put up with one another. Many times throughout the course of this quarter each one of us has said that the best part of this class was meeting each other, and we all feel the same because we mesh. I cracked the whip to work while Taylor reminded us that you can enjoy work at the same time and lauch. Alexandra was the positive outlook and optimism while Cody was the creative and analytical one, always thinking up new solutions. I can honestly say that we have bonded as true friends and will keep in touch after this quarter and for that I am grateful.

I am also grateful for Jonathan, our service learning supervisor. Jonathan is someone that I admire and aspire to be more like. Hardworking and never complaining, Jonathan helped us through it all. He didnt seem himself as above us or even beside us, he was down with us in the dirt, offering himself for the work before asking us. That level of commitment to not only a job but a passion is admirable. And the fact that he was funny too just makes it so much better! Having someone so close in age to us allowed us to relate well and be comfortable enough to open us with him and him with us. Especially since we participated in the Challenge program with him and worked side by side in our team shopping trip and event execution. Manual labor really shows a person’s true colors!

ALEXANDRA HAUPT Reflection

1. Your reflection on the outcome of the workshop:

Our workshop for the Outdoor Center Challenge Program went well. Each one of us recited a section of the outline and gave examples of each point. Because our presentation was in the lobby of the Outdoor Center we decided to keep our presentation simple. Erika began the presentation with an overview of what our goals were (to make the fun, active opportunities provided by the Challenge program highlighted and visible to the WWU community). Taylor discussed our marketing ideas and planning. Cody explained our deliverable event(s) and our mission with them. And I talked about our hopes for the Outdoor Center in the future. At the end of our vocal presentation we concluded with our team video. This was a fun addition to the workshop because it showed how we experienced the Challenge program ourselves. The video consisted of pictures from our visit to Lakewood, pictures of the various ropes courses, pictures from past groups who participated, and of the scenic location itself. At the end we thanked Jonathan, the Outdoor Center Manager, and facilitators for trusting us to market their program.

2. What have you gained from the project?

The project was an amazing opportunity for our team. We acquired hands-on experience in professional relations by developing our own marketing plan and seeing though with it. The events we put together were the result of our individual and group creative and organized efforts. I personally learned how time management is essential for completing a professional goal, in this case a marketing event. I was able to

SL Workshop Project and Final Draft 22see my ideas come to life in the fun way that it did. This was the best school project/group project I've been a part of. My team was especially great, reliable and fun to work with. And finally I learned in depth what the Outdoor Center offers which has inspired me to be either more involved in the awesome opportunities through this resource and to maybe even work for them.

3. Successes and challenges of the workshop and project?

The ultimate success in this project would have to be how we delivered the Comm Lawn Event. The event entailed a consistent process and vision. With the help of Jonathan and his facilitators we were able to have two on campus ropes courses, a table with fliers, stickers, pens, outdoor center sunglasses, and information about the challenge program. We also had outdoor center backpacks gummy snacks, capri sun, and popsicles. We were lucky that our event was on a sunny day, because of this we had tons of fun outside and people were drawn to check out the games. The biggest challenge throughout this process was figuring our when everyone could meet because we are all so busy. A big chunk of the time we delegated different tasks for each member to complete on their own time and then combine our work when we could meet.

4. What motivated you to complete the project?

There were various influences that drove my energy towards this project. The main things that motivated me were my grade in this class, our awesome service-learning group, supporting the Outdoor Center itself being a wonderful resource for the WWU community that inspires people to stay active in the beautiful Northwest outdoors and finally being able to experience how marketing really works.

5. Discuss how you were able to apply the specific course theories/concepts to the SL project, and your overall experience.

In our readings the theme of having organized meeting sessions, clear focus towards a goal and how to work efficiently with others definitely applied to our project. Timelines is what made our project workout because we needed to be able to develop our idea of having an event, establish the when/where/how, and then prepare everything for the two events we had. Professional communication insists on equal part individual work with group work where everyone involved delivers towards the project.

6. In terms of your overall SL experience, what are you grateful for?

I am thankful for having the positive and reliable SL group that I had. Erika, Taylor, and Cody were wonderful to work with each having their own distinct skills and passions. We respected each other and helped each other be successful. I also am so glad I got my first SL project choice. I was initially excited to learn more about the Outdoor Center and have been pleasantly pleased with what I discovered about the program. Our school had excellent resources for students to gain life skills, and get inspired by activities from cultural artistic avenues to the outdoorsy ones. Comm 318 has been a times a stressful and hard class but also a monumental course as well in the means of learning how to balance a full schedule and stay positive.

CODY CHWASZCZEWSKI Reflection

SL Workshop Project and Final Draft 23 1. Your reflection of the outcome of the workshop. My team’s workshop went very well, and I believe we accomplished what we wanted to accomplish with it. First of all our “workshop” was split up into two different parts. On Friday May 30, we met at the AS Outdoor Center at 10am to hold our workshop presentation with Jonathan Mayfield and other members of the AS Outdoor Center. The presentation helped us to show our community partners what work we have been doing over the course of the quarter to help bring more awareness to the AS Outdoor Center’s challenge program at Lakewood, which I believe we did a great job with. Each group member had their own section, with Erika handling the introduction and conclusion. Taylor explaining our marketing plan, myself explaining how we implemented the plan, and Alex went on to talk about our hopes for the AS Outdoor Center’s challenge program in the future. 2. What have you gained from the project? This project gave myself as well as my teammates some valuable hands on professional experience with working with an organization in the community. For me personally, I learned the value of getting involved with an organization. I have never really been that involved with many organizations here on campus, but working with the AS Outdoor Center made me feel as though I was helping to give back to the school that I love. Our tabling event as well as our event on the Comm lawn were very fun, and I believe really did have the effect we wanted them to. Another thing I learned is that properly managing time was a huge part of completing this project. I have not always been the most organized person, but the project has helped to work on that. Not only do I feel as though our project was successful, but I feel that I have gained connections with people that I would not have if I did not work on this project. 3. Successes and challenges for the workshop and project? Our greatest success for this project was definitely our event on the Comm lawn. After weeks of planning, and getting Jonathan as well as several facilitators on board for the event we were pleased with the end result. We talked to so many people about the AS Outdoor Center’s challenge program, and had a lot of people try out the obstacles we set up on the lawn. Setting up and tearing down the even was pretty difficult and tiring but in the end the hard work paid off. Our biggest challenge with this project was conflicting schedules. Each one of us has a different schedule so sometimes it became difficult to figure out when everyone could meet to get things done. 4. What motivated you to complete the project?

The main motivations for completing this project for me personally were my overall grade for this course, my wonderful teammates, and the desire to help the AS Outdoor Center accomplish its goal. We have all formed a pretty great relationship with each other and that is something that made me want to do very well on this project. Also, we have formed a great relationship with Jonathan as well as other members of the AS Outdoor Center and some of us might even sign up to be facilitators for the challenge course. 5. Discuss how you were able to apply specific course theories/concepts to SL project and your

overall experience.

SL Workshop Project and Final Draft 24

Chapter 6 of Adler is all about effective meetings, which is something that helped a lot in our meeting process. We had clearly defined goals which made it easier to plan and schedule when things were do, when to meet up, who to talk to, etc. Without the organizational skills that Erika has this would have been a lot harder for us. Also, the chapter on how to deliver the presentation was very beneficial because we have had to present to our community partner as well as our classmates several times.

6. In terms of your overall SL experience, what are you most grateful for?

The thing I am most grateful for is that I had such a great team to work with. Each of us has our own set of skills that helped to complete the project. Along with our level of respect for each other as individuals I believe we all became good friends from this experience. Even though sometimes we may have not all seen eye to eye, we all formed great relationships with each other that will continue once this class is over. I am also very grateful for how helpful Jonathan and the facilitators for being so helpful to us on this project, we definitely owe them a huge thank you. Overall I would say that even though at times this class became very stressful, it was very beneficial and I think I have gained some new skills that will help me in the future.
