B. PROFESSIONAL DUTIES (75%)

care nursery and paediatric medical ward

Ensuring safe practice of Paediatrics and optimum clinical management of sick children

2. Providing acute resuscitation for all newborns and children throughout the hospital- ICU, SCN, Labor room, OT, Paediatric unit and A&E
Once indicated Try to achieve end-point of resuscitation
Depends on clinical response and premorbid status of patients
3. Attending to new admissions to both SCN and Paediatric medical ward by obtaining accurate history, detailed physical examination and appropriate investigations. Then provide appropriate management and counseling to patients and family.
According to duty roster
Ensure good recovery of the patient to be discharged safely

4. Providing daily in- patients rounds twice a day with specialist
Depends on the number of in-patients
Ensuring all investigations ordered are done and traced, appropriate management and treatment are given. Family counseling is given on the rounds.

5. Managing day cases, e.g.Oncology/ thalasaemia / other patients attending paediatric ward for chemotherapy, blood transfusion and CT cranial.
Depends on the number of patients
Ensuring safe giving of chemotherapy/ blood transfusion/ sedation and arrange appropriate follow- up management

6. Escorting patients to radiology department for investigations (as indicated) and to other hospitals, e.g. IJN, SGH and HKL.

7. Performing clinical procedures
e.g. Bone marrow aspiration Trephite Central line placement Urinary catherisation for MCUG Lumbar puncture Arterial lines Inserting urinary catheter Chest tube insertion

8. Running General Paediatric Clinic with specialist supervision
All day every Wednesday
Managing & Optimising care of referred cases and on- going care of children.

9. Running Oncology/ thalasaemia clinic with specialist supervision
1st Monday morning each month
Optimising care of the relevant patients
3 hours a month
10 Running Neonatal clinic with specialist supervision
2nd/3rd/4th Monday morning each month
Development assessment for all SCN discharges and optimizing on- going problems.
3 hours a week
11 Assisting visiting specialist running outpatient clinic
6 times a year Optimising care of the relevant patients
3-6 hours each session
12. Attending to referral cases from other disciplines
Depends on number of referrals and severity of medical problems encountered
Based on clinical practice guidelines and National Paediatric protocol

13 Involved in public educations for counseling parents informally in the wards or formally, e.g. radio talk, public forums, etc.

C. TRAINING ACTIVITIES (10%)

Support Courses for medical, paramedical and allied health staff
-Attending Basic Life Support Committee regular meetings
3 times per year -Pre & post course assessment and evaluation-Practical skill assessment of all participants

2. Assisting in conducting Neonatal Resuscitation Programme
4 times per year -Pre & post course assessment and evaluation- Practical skill assessment of all participants

3. Attending workshop, symposium, lectures and congress of Paediatrics
3 to 4 times per year
-Post course evaluation- Ability to conduct echo-training, ( if relevant) once returned
Two to three days course
4. Assisting in supervising contract medical officers who came for one month attachment in Department of Paediatric
Rotation MOs on monthly basis
Achievement of basic resuscitation skill for newborns and children and understanding basic Paediatric knowledge at the end of the attachment

5. Assisting in training of new medical officers who posted to Paediatric unit
Pending on number of new MOs recruitment
Ability to conduct basic resuscitation and performing on call duties at the end of tag duties
One month of supervised training
6. Attending regular Continuous Medical Education (CME) for medical officers in Department of Paediatrics
Every Monday afternoon and alternate Thursday morning
