Chairman’s

Chatter

I would like to open my first Chairman’s chatter with thanks to John Grimes who resigned after 3 years at the helm.

John worked extremely hard over the 3 years to promote the club not only locally but nationally. John has said that

he and his family will remain with the club and support it in all that it does.

I would also like to thank the previous committee who worked over last season again locally and nationally.

Following the AGM several new members were asked and accepted new positions on the committee and I look

forward to working with the new committee over the new season.

Simon Dowling has compiled an extensive social calendar for this season, the first of which will be the launching

supper / casino night to be held on Saturday 13th April in the Pavilion Room commencing at 7.30pm. Please try and

make an effort to attend this event and give Simon the support in his first event. Having talked with Simon he will be

setting up a sub-committee over the coming weeks and if you believe you are able to work with Simon please offer

your assistance.

Dan Dowling was appointed race organiser with his main focus being to establish a series of club races; Dan is working

on these events and will present his proposal to the next management meeting for ratification. As well as arranging

club races Dan has been tasked with organising the South West Regional race which is to be combined with the

Slipping out party towards the end of the season.

Again the club has been awarded a round of the National marathon series, the management team has agreed that

rather than the organising of this event is left to one person, a National race working party is to be formed to ensure

the smooth running of this event.

On the publicity front Chris Preece has agreed to carry out this function and Chris Reeves will assist and give Chris

Preece guidance on this important position. The two Chris’s have been very busy since the agm and I look forward to

reading the first issue of this seasons “SkiLine”. The club has now with Chris Reeves skills formed a “Twitter” and

“Facebook” page and will be using this form of social networking to promote the activities of the club along with the

more conventional ways.

That would appear to be all the news so far but I am sure more will be reported along with some of the antics of our

club members over the coming months, I look forward to see you all at our first function.






Presidents

Prattle

New committee and new season almost here (when it decides to stop snowing,2”

deep across the moors back from Glastonbury today) so with my membership hat on

, it’s time to ask for money and provide the reason why.

Must admit that although there are lots of benefits through the club and the Fed ,our

main attribute is our characters within the existing membership. We have happy

smiley, moaney groaney, rich and poor , pleasant/obnoxious and really something for

everyone. In seriousness we are a great bunch who enjoy socializing and have a

passion for being on the water whether racing or for fun.

We now have another 3 qualified regional Judges who will progress to full National

by the end of the year and a fully qualified set of coaches as well. In fact we are

totally prepared to hold events and teach anyone who wants to learn. We also have

many more fully qualified barflys who are extremely adept at getting the best out

poor weather scenarios or relaxing after good weather efforts on the water.

Our tractor is now being prepared for the season and hopefully it will be sorted as

soon as it comes off the prom at the end of this year , so it’s not such a mad rush as

this year. Many thanks to Rob Jenkins for his efforts.

Hopefully this year with the dynamic Dowling in charge there will be plenty of events

to meet at and we hope the National race in June will be one of the highlights.

Obviously we need to make money on everything as we still need to support the

tractor! So please support the raffles etc.

Unfortunately I have no gossip or giggles yet (apart from the fact I’m 65 next month)

but I promise someone is bound to cock up in time for the next issue.

Board Being the first issue of the season there isn’t much to put on here. But I would

like this section to be used and contributed to by you. Whether you’re arranging

a trip out, have a embarrassing story you would like to share or even have

something for sale. Let me know and I will get it on here. Thanks Chris

THIS MONTH (MAY)

We have 2 exciting events happening

On Saturday the 11th

of may

we are doing and over and back trip to Cardiff bay. Heading

out on the morning tide, locking in and then coming back

on the evening tide. Further details to follow in the next

few days

On the 18th

ofMay

there is a relay rally planned, again details to be confirmed

on the same poster. Get the dates in your diary!
