LET THECOUNTDOWNBEGIN ove it or hate it, New Year’s Eve is considered the biggest night out of the year. It’s the only date you can guarantee pretty much everyone will want to get involved with, and choosing the right way to celebrate the end of one year and the dawning of the next will be taken on by millions in the country this year – so it's best to be prepared.

This year we’ve got more events on sale than ever before, with hundreds of choices for you to get your teeth into. Fancy an underground rave? Prefer an indie singalong? Or an opulent VIP extravaganza for you and all your mates? Whatever it is we’ve got it covered, and as the UK’s biggest what’s on guide you can’t afford to not check us out in the build up to NYE.

This paper not only runs through some of the best choices for the last day of the year, we’ve included a smattering of events on New Year ’s Day and a couple from in and around the Christmas period too, covering Leeds, Liverpool, London and Manchester, as well as the rest of the UK.

We’ve also given you a flavour of our editorial content in the middle spread, and explained how you can make the most of our Hotels and Restaurants section – making sure you’re not out in the cold in every sense come December 31st. Remember though, this is a mere fraction of what is on offer on the main site – head to skiddle.com/whatson for the complete run down.

We caught up with one

half of the LOST label

bosses, Leftwing, in

November to talk the

duo’s future. They play

Egg London on New

Year’s Eve and the Day

One Festival in

Birmingham on New

Year’s Day.

So are you travelling a lot more now or spending more time in the studio?

We've just been concentrating on pushing this EP that comes out in December - this is the first time that we've actually released on Lost. We thought it was about time that we released on our own label and to work withRobert Owenswas a big boost for us.

How did working with him come about?

We're managed by the same people, and they said, "Robert would be really interested in working with you guys, let’s hook something up" then he was literally in our studio for about two hours, he came and laid down some wicked stuff that we were able to use and we managed to get three tracks out of it.

Has having a radio show on Rinse FM helped to move along your sound?

For sure, the Rinse show as well gives us an opportunity not to necessarily play like we would do in the club as well, so we get the opportunity to play music that doesn't necessarily have to be for the dance floor. It is a radio show so there is some stuff that we can throw in there that'snot necessarily club orientated. That's another way of us kind of being able to express who we are as artists as well and Rinse have been great to us.

But when you're throwing down something experimentalon the radio you're not getting to see how the crowd reacts to it, how do you deal with that?

That's right but in a way it’s kind of cool because there's no pressure either, because when you're doing a radio show there's not that

crowd reaction. On theflip sideto that, when you're in a club and you're playing something for the first timeand you're not getting the reaction you're expecting half way through your set it can kind of throw you off a little bit.

It wasn't long ago that you both had day jobs, so how has that been?

Yeah, last year we were kind of juggling music production, DJing and day jobs all at once, and it can be quite stressful you know especially if you've been out at the weekend and you have to go to a nine-to-five on a Monday morning.

We weren't at the time in a financially stable place as far as the DJing and producing was going so once we had the opportunity to leave our day jobs, because we were earning enough through DJing to survive, we left our jobs and as I said before these things only come along once in a lifetime and it could of been a case of do we jump into it and do this thing full time? Or do we play it safe and stick to the day jobs and things like that.

We went for it and it's worked out alright, it's only been a year and we haven't had to go back to our day jobs yet, so we're going to keep the tunes coming out and keep the work rate up.

coming, like Cream in Liverpool

German producer

Watermät has had a huge

2014, notably via the huge

record ‘Bullit’ which has

been one of the biggest

anthems of the year,

omnipresent across

festivals around the

world. We caught up with

him ahead of his Cream

debut in Liverpool on

Boxing Day.

How did it feel getting your track 'Bullit' signed to a label like Spinnin’, not to mention getting support from some of the biggest DJs out there? That must have been pretty special?

It’s amazing, but also very unexpected! I did the track to put it on soundcloud, but a friend wanted to send it to couple of labels first. And Spinnin’ responded straight away, then everything started.

The record has been a mammoth hit across Europe, with Pete Tong naming it as his 'Essential New Tune of the Week'. Do you feel under pressure now to have the same success with your next release?

Not really, cause I started this project to do music with more freedom and no pressure.I think I need to keep it like that!

The record has a real quirkiness about it, and a very addictive melody, that seems to be something of your calling card. What would you say are some key components of a Watermät tune?

And where do you draw your inspiration from with producing?

I would say some deep vibe, but with some kind of energy. I like to mix real instruments with electronic elements. I use to listen all kind of music, I guess I take a little bit of everything for my inspiration.

How did your love of dance music start off? Was there a certain night or DJ you saw of record you heard that just converted you?

It’s from my older brother, who introduced me to the house music from Chicago in the late nineties.

What is next for you? Where else are you looking forward to playing this year?

I'm finishing my next release, and also some collaborations. I've got lots of exciting gigs coming, like Cream in Liverpool.

Last question - and it’s a hypothetical situation. You have the ability to throw the ultimate party, with guest DJs from any time in history, alive or dead. Where would you have it, who would be on the bill and what track would you play to define the evening?

I would do this up on the mountain of the “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”. Sorry, the line up would be kept secret…butDaft PunkandDarth Vaderwould be on the list. My track would beElvis Presley's'You gave me a mountain'
