This bird is a seagull. It lives near the sea. It builds a nest on the cliff. The seagulls can see the beach. They have verygood eyes. They are looking for seaweed. Why?

The seagulls make their nests with seaweed and smallpieces of wood. The seaweed comes from the sea. The wavesbring it to the beach. The seagulls fly down, and pick up theseaweed in their beaks.

This seagull is on the cliff too. But this seagull isn’t looking forseaweed. It is looking at the children. The children are playingon the beach. Two children are playing in thesand: they are building sandcastles. There isanother child on the beach. This child is playing in the sea.

This seagull leaves his nest on the cliff and flies over the sea. The seais blue and the wind is strong.

The waves are big. Theirtops are white. The waves roll tothe beach and crash on the seashore.The seagull smells the salt of the sea.

The seagull flies over the sea. His sharp eyes are looking atthe water. He sees the waves and flies over their white tops.The water is very cold and very deep. But it is also very clear. He flies over the waves and looks at the water.

The seagull is looking for something in the water. Is he looking for seaweed? Or fish? Is he hungry? What is the seagull looking for?

The seagull can see seaweed under the water. The seaweedfloats under the sea. It grows in the sand and on the rocksunder the water. The waves roll to the seashore. The seaweed moves with the water.

Look at the colours. There is green seaweed, brownseaweed, and red seaweed. It is a beautiful garden of seaweedunder the water. And this garden is moving.

And the seagull flies over the sea and thisbeautiful garden under the water. Hedives down to the water. He flies up tothe sky. He flies up; he flies down.

The water is moving, the waves aremoving, and the seaweed is moving. And theseagull is moving quickly through the air.

Can the seagull see the bottom of the sea? There are smallstones, seashells, and pebbles at the bottom of the sea. Thewater is very clear. The pebbles are smooth and round.

They are brown and white and green. A flat fish is swimming at the

The seagull does not see theflat fish. He flies down to thebeach and walks on the sand.

The crab is angry. He has not gotsharp eyes but he has got sharppincers! He waves his sharp pincersat the seagull. The seagull’s beak hitsthe crab. But the crab snaps hispincers at the seagull’s beak. Theseagull does not like the pincers: he leaves the crab.

The seagull walks along the beach. He hops on a rock and finds a pool of water. The rock pool isan interesting place. There is seaweed on the topof the rock. Under the water there are shells andsea plants.

The seagull waits on the rocks. His sharp eyes see the seaweed and all the sea shells. He sees two yellow shells. They are limpet shells. These shells are very strong: they cling to the side of the rock. The seagull has a very strongbeak, but he cannot move the limpets.

He sees a prawn at the bottomof the pool. The prawn has along body and a long mouth. It walks on the bottom of thepond. It has long legs.

The seagull pushes his beakinto the water. But the prawnhas sharp eyes too. It sees andhears the seagull. It swims awayquickly. The seagull is too slow.The prawn escapes!

Poor seagull! He leaves the rock pool andwalks along the beach again. He sees thewhite tops of the salty waves as they rolltowards the beach. The water comesonto the beach. He can see the white saltat the end of the waves. But the tide isgoing out and the waves are falling back.The children’s sandcastle is safe!

There are straight shells andthere are curly ones! The seagullturns over the shiny shells with his feet. Some shells are easy to open with a strong beak. The seagull pecks and bites the shells with his beak.
