SIYAKHOLWA GOVERNANCE BODY

• Duty of care: To act as an ordinary, wise person would – in the same circumstances;

applying careful, attentive and informed participation. There is no measure of just how much

time, skill and attentiveness an individual must bring to her or his actions as a governing body

member. This standard requires that governing body members base their decisions on

adequate information. Governing body members don't have to be experts at everything that

comes before them. However, any member with special expertise is expected to contribute

that specialized knowledge in his or her activities as a governing body member. Each member

are fully involved in every action and decision of the governing body. The duty of care permits

delegation to other members, committees, staff or even outsiders, within reason. •

Duty of loyalty: To act in good faith, in the best interests of the organisation. The duty of

loyalty imposes safeguards and standards of fairness in situations where there are conflicts of

interest. The legal standards address this concern by requiring activity such as: full

disclosure; approval by the majority of governing body members; getting good deals for the

organisation. Another type of loyalty is raised when an individual member and the organisation

are potentially in competition for the same side of a transaction. Only when the we chooses to

forgo the opportunity of governing body member free to go ahead on his or her own behalf. •

Duty of obedience: To act to ensure that the organisation operates within the laws, and

rules governing its formation and status, and in accordance with its own constitution and

mission. Actions taken contradict own rules within the organisation's purposes as described

in constitution, may be withdrawn if challenged. Members of the governing body serve for

two to four years, and the organisation's constitution make sure that “fresh blood” comes

onto the governing body at regular intervals. The following list of ten major roles and

responsibilities of NPO governing bodies

HOW WE WORK:

How do we deliver our strategic aims? As the overarching consideration is to mitigate

avoidable suffering and vulnerabilities using all effective means, we seek to organize

ourselves effectively and efficiently through three key enabling actions. The first enabling

action emphasizes the primacy of strong National Societies as the organisation for all that we

Page 4: SIYAKHOLWA SUPPORT CARE CENTRE · EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Siyakholwa Support Care Centre was established in 2010 situated in informal settlement at Ronderbult ext2,Germiston ,Gauteng and

do. The second enabling action is directed at strengthening the coherence and impact of our

collective voice. The third enabling action is intended to deploy the whole range of risk

management capacities so as to maximize access and deliver the best results possible for the

people we want to reach and rescue.

MOBILE food parcel distribution

WE HAVE DONE COMMUNITY RECYCLE PROJECTS AND BUY FOODPARCEL WITH INCOME GENERATED

Freedom is meaningless if people cannot put food in their stomachs, if they can have no shelter,

if illiteracy and disease continue to dog them." —

Food. It’s a simple thing that many of us take for granted. But without the right amount or type

of food, the development of our children is stunted — their mental and physical growth limited

by a lack of nutrients.

40% of all stunted children are African. This is a huge injustice – and holds all of us back. That’s

151 million children who are more likely to struggle with schooling, poor health, and finding a

good job in the future. How can economies grow when this issue impacts almost half a

continent’s population?

There is a solution. If Siyakholwa Support care Centre committed to spend just an extra R7 a day

per child on nutrition by 2019, it could save as many as 50 million children from stunting —

improving the chance of every child to succeed in doing so. Your support is highly appreciated

OUR KEY STRATEGIES OF THE ACTION PLAN

1. Strengthen the capacity of families to care for OVC (skills development, workshop, training)

2. Mobilize community-based responses for care, support and protection of OVC.

3. Ensure that legislation, policy and programmes are in place to protect the most vulnerable and orphans.

4. Ensure access to essential services for OVC

5. Increase awareness regarding OVC issues

6. Engage the business community to support OVC actively

garden, you can still grow many

crops using companion planting, a

permaculture concept. It helps grow

a wide variety of crops in a small

space by inter-planting different crop

species next to each other. You can

plant tomatoes with basil or carrots,

onions can grow together with

peppers, lettuce or eggplants.

Planting that way makes use of

There are other permaculture

- Commitment to communities and volunteering Strong and cohesive communities are

the foundation for practical delivery by National Societies.

Page 14: SIYAKHOLWA SUPPORT CARE CENTRE · EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Siyakholwa Support Care Centre was established in 2010 situated in informal settlement at Ronderbult ext2,Germiston ,Gauteng and

- This acknowledges that people themselves are the most important resource for their

own progress, which can only be sustained through their own leadership and

ownership of the process.

- For us, communities are not targets but the starting point, and National Societies serve

communities from the inside.

- In every community, regardless of how poor it is, capacity exists.

- This capacity can be mobilized and organized into National Society services to reach

people who are particularly vulnerable.

- Therefore, building the capacity of local branches and units is vital as they form an

integral part of the community and its civil society, enriching the social fabric of both.

- The nature of communities is changing profoundly as people identify themselves in

many different ways beyond the places where they live or work to the networks of

common interest within which they spend most time, including ‘virtual communities’

across the internet.

- We are promoting new ways to reach these non-traditional communities through social

mobilization and communication. Voluntary service is at the heart of

community-building. Volunteering promotes trust and reciprocity.

- It encourages people to be responsible citizens and provides them with an

environment where they can learn the duties of democratic involvement.

- Volunteering within National Societies is carried out by people who are committed to

the fundamental principles and motivated by their own free will without the

expectation of material or financial gain.

- Our volunteers serve vulnerable people, and work towards a more humane and

peaceful world.

- They contribute their time and skills regularly or occasionally in the delivery of

services, in resource mobilization, administrative, governance or advisory functions.

National Societies are committed to improve quality, standards, capacities and

volunteer retention by creating a welcoming and socially inclusive environment.

- This environment means providing volunteers with training, supervision, regular

evaluation and recognition; development opportunities that include designing and

improving the work in which they are involved; insurance protection, equipment and

psychosocial support; and a supporting local structure relevant to the tasks that they

carry out.

- As living trends continue to change how people volunteer, including more informal and

non-institutionalized ways, Organisation legal, social and economic policies that

encourage and value volunteering more strongly sociaties

OUR PROGRAMMES STRATEGY

The project start off a a non-profitable project but our plans is profit-making activities (large job creation for

our beneficiaries able to support these children) later on in this case the project form a Trust to secure

funding for training and for a pilot project later the pilot has proven a success .With our skills development

our beneficiaries able to run profitable business using the knowledge and experience they

have gained. The project may thus start out by forming a Trust but overtime may choose

to form a Co-operative that will secure commercial loan funding to enable it to operate.

The Trust could continue to train people and pilot new ideas while the Co-operative could

be a profit seeking business that secures it’s funding from completely different sources

OUR CHALLENGES

OUR CHALLENGES NO STIPENT FOR HOME-VISITORS

Food security, nutrition 50% is attributed to under nutrition, malnutrition particularly Acute HIV-positive

children and are severe underweight no having enough funds to buy food parcel and soup kitchen . No

clothes for these children and no stipend to pay mobile Home-visiting and project resources, staff and

practitioners. no truck to use on our mobile programmes, No services offered on Sunday due to lack of

resources lot of work we must render for community, No toy library and educational resources to develop

their domains, We faced with the problem of funds and when thinking about its proven track record of

community empowerment it is frustrating to know that it would be able to reach many orphans and

vulnerable children, previously disadvantaged community if we could secure more consistent funding. The

organisation has tried to address this issue by generating funds through conducting fundraising projects.

These activities still remain within our PBO activities assist us in our Mobile community based care

programmes.

Others often live in Larger than average household, and in crowded situation that put them at risk of

sexual physical abuse and other related problems.
