Peter and I are being transferred to new parishes, effective July 11. This July I complete my 6-year term here at Sacred Heart. The time has flown by, but I have witnessed the Lord accomplishing so much in and through you. I was certainly not expecting a new assignment, and am still a bit in shock and have been ruminating on all the people and things I will miss about Sacred Heart. But I will try to follow the Lord’s call with an open and trusting heart – which I know will be made much easier by your prayers. I will become the new pastor at Good Shepherd Parish in Madison, which is comprised of St. James and St. Joseph Churches and serves a large His- panic community as well as a school. I will be living close to my Alma Mater, UW Madison, and just blocks away from where I was born (St. Mary’s). Fr. Peter has been a joy and inspiration to me and to so many. A priest’s first assignment leaves a deep and lasting impression on his heart. Thank you for encouraging Fr. Peter. I know our school children will especially miss him (and all the candy he routinely gave out). We are all much more prayerful after watching his example of having such a rich interior life. Fr. Peter will be the Parochial Vicar at St. John Vianney Parish in Janesville. We know change is hard and will perhaps be especially difficult in our current situation in society. We hope to have the opportunity to share our gratitude in person for all your support and love. Your new Pastor, Fr. Pat Wendler, is coming from Watertown, and will provide great continuity and will have many wonderful gifts to bring to Sacred Heart. Please welcome him with an open heart and enthusiasm, as I know you will. Perhaps you were hoping this important announcement would be about resuming public Masses. At this point there has been no change to our ap- proach and policies. Rest assured that the Diocese is working hard to as- sure the best possible balance between two essential elements: meeting the faithful’s spiritual needs and safeguarding public safety. Expect news re- garding this within the next week. Feel free to access our website and Fa- cebook page for any updates as they become available. With heartfelt gratitude and prayer, Fr Dave

FROM THE PASTOR

Important Announcements It’s with true sadness that I announce that both Fr.

Joseph Churches and serves a large His-panic community as well as a school.

At this point there has been no change to our ap-proach and policies. Rest assured that the Diocese is working hard to as-sure the best possible balance between two essential elements: meeting the faithful’s spiritual needs and safeguarding public safety. Expect news re-garding this within the next week. Feel free to access our website and Fa-cebook page for any updates as they become available.

With heartfelt gratitude and prayer,

Fr Dave

Justice and Peace

The Wisconsin Catholic Conference sent out the fol-lowing message this week: “As families are struggling to put food on the table during this time of economic crisis, the United States Conference of Catholic Bish-ops (USCCB) is urging Catholics to contact their Mem-bers of Congress, asking that they increase federal food assistance, also known as SNAP (Supplemental Nutri-tion Assistance Program), in the next COVID-19 relief bill. In Wisconsin, SNAP assistance is provided through the FoodShare program. SNAP effectively re-lieves hunger by delivering resources directly to low-income households. It is also a proven tool to boost the economy - every dollar spent on SNAP generates be-tween $1.50 and $1.80 in economic activity.

Please urge Congress to protect those who are most vulnerable to hunger by strengthening SNAP for the duration of the economic crisis.

Thank you for helping to ensure that children and fami-

lies do not go hungry!”

Living Our Faith

When we were asked to write down our thoughts re-garding establishing our own Domestic Church while we remain “Safe at Home” and away from our Faith Community - we really weren’t sure what to share. We have always had tangible symbols of our faith sprin-kled throughout our home because it is fundamental to our family life. In our gar-den we have May altar with a stature of our Blessed Mother - who wears a crown this month of May, along with a Statue of St. Francis who watches over the variety of wildlife- squirrels, birds, deer, tur-keys and cranes that visit our yard.

In nearly every room of our home - you will see a cross or crucifix. In our living rooms hangs a hand hooked Sacred Heart picture made by my beloved grandmother nearly 80 years ago, along with the serenity prayer and angels are scattered through the first and second floors and even a mirror reminder, “That with God all things are possible”.

All of the technology with which we live is truly a blessing in connecting us with our faith community. In being able to share the rosary, benediction & Mass along with Fr. Dave’s daily reflections in the comfort of our own homes - it has also been a blessing to “Be Still and Know that I am God” which allows us to recognize and appreciate the simple and basic gift of our family as well as all the blessings in our beautiful world. NOVENA TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

Beginning Friday, May 22 through Saturday, May 30 we invite you to join in the "original" nove-na. After Jesus' Ascension into Heaven, the Apos-tles gathered in the Upper Room for 9 days of pray-er, awaiting the promised gift of the Holy Spirit, which they received at Pentecost. Each evening dur-ing the novena from 5:30-6:00PM you are invited to join us in Church or on Facebook Live for prayer, asking for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon us and our whole world. The novena prayers are linked below. Other songs and prayers will be made availa-ble so you can follow along each day. http://www.scborromeo.org/prayers/novenahs.pdf

WORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER Invite Jesus into your marriage on an up-coming Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend on June 26-28 in Rockford, IL; Sept. 11-13 in Geneva, IL or Oct. 16-18 in Brookfield, WI. Visit our website at: alifetimeoflove.org

or call (888) 574-5653.

ADORATION UPDATE

Dear Eucharistic Adorers,

A reminder that we have begun Adoration again.

As we gradually ease back into our normal activities,

we think resuming Adoration is a good (and safe) step.

If you cannot come, please attempt to find a substitute

for the near future and let us know who that is. If you

cannot find a substitute, let us know with enough ad-

vance notice for us to address the issue.

Updated Procedures:

Adoration will take place in the main Church so

there is more space to practice social distancing.

Please sign in at the book near the Baptismal font.

The doors to the Church will still be locked from

10pm-5am. Those who Adore at night are to use

their codes to access the Chapel door. The door

between the Church and Chapel will be left un-

locked. If you have forgotten your code, please

contact Paul Jensen at the Parish Office (524-2412).

At the end of your time of prayer, you are encour-

aged to use a sanitizing wipe of the pew around

where you sat.

If you are not a regularly scheduled Adorer but would

like to become one or substitute, please email us or fol-

low the link below to find open spots.

Thanks for praying for our troubled world during this

time. There is no higher expression of our human ca-

pacity than giving praise and glory to God.
