AS and A Level
• New linear A levels
• You can start with three or four A levels
• Most finish with three A levels. Russell Group universities want three good A level grades only
• AS exams are now a separate qualification and are not linked to the A level
• AS exams are voluntary. Far fewer now taken than in the past
The EPQ – Extended Project Qualification
• Universities are impressed by an EPQ, particularly if it is related to the course that you are applying for.
• The EPQ is an individual research based project. It requires a lot of self motivation and a good work ethic.
• Normally it is a 5000 essay together with a presentation to a small audience. Students have to reflect on the process as they go along in a formal log.
• Timescale – start November Year 12, finish December Year 13
Formal Assessments
• Off-timetable in an exam room
• Around 60 – 90 mins per subject – mocks will be longer
