REST IN THE LORD
For several weeks we have listened to readings that have recounted just
how arduous the work of prophets and disciples can be. In today’s Gospel,
the Lord Jesus listens to the reports of those he had sent out “two by two” to
minister to the people. After the apostles reported what they had done, Je-
sus, recognizing their fatigue, says, “Come away by yourselves to a deserted
place and rest awhile” (Mark 6:31). Perhaps this is what the Lord is telling
his disciples in the year 2018 as well. We need to pause on our journey of
discipleship and simply rest in the Lord. Sunday Mass provides many op-
portunities for quiet times, particularly during the periods of silence follow-
ing the readings. Why not take the time today to allow the saving word of
the Lord to penetrate your heart during those silent times? Ask the Lord to
renew you in body, mind, and spirit for the arduous work of discipleship. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Dear St. Mary Magdalene, I cannot begin to express what is truly in my heart. I have been here at St. Mary Mag-dalene for 11 wonderful years… too many memories to even begin to lay out. It is simply time that I move to a full-time job. I am excited, and honestly a little nervous, about the opportuni-ty to serve and minister full-time at St. Stephen Cathedral. It is new territory, but not too far from home! I feel like I grew up here at St. Mary Magdalene– I graduated college, and all of my adult life has been connected to this parish. This parish, has become family… the folks I can count on to be there, and friendships that I know will last for many years to come. I’m grateful for the time and memories that will go with me. I find it ironic, how I spent so much time teaching your children and youth about the faith and life… many times, I felt as though I learned more from them. God’s hand has been hard at work. When I try to think of all the memories, so many things stand out... We have taken yearly trips to Conferences (both nationally and locally), all the costumes at Trunk or Treats, lots of messiness while playing messy games, the countless potato's that were peeled, teaching kids how to use peelers, debone meat, etc. while helping the Men’s Club with Carry-outs, as well as all the dishes that were scrubbed, floors that were mopped (hey– we have taught those kids how to do household chores!), the lives that were impacted through service projects, the conversations that focused on life, family, and faith, the hearts that had encoun-ters with Christ… the list goes on and on. I never had to take one of our own youth to the hos-pital, and only one kid ever threw up on our clock! I am quite proud of that one! Luckily, I’m not going far! I will still be around and that makes the transition easier. Transition and change are hard, but transition and change are necessary for growth. Know I will be praying for you all, and I ask for prayers in return. Peace, love, and prayers, Crissy
VBS: Please keep our participants and volunteers in prayer this week! VBS runs Monday-Thursday from 6-8:15 each evening. Children will have encounters with David, Elijah, Solomon, Jonah, Esther, and Daniel. They will make crafts, have dinner, and play games each night as well! Parishioners are invited to come and check out what we have going on this week! Each year, we do have a Mission Project, that we learn about and collect money for. This year, we will be collecting for St. Benedicts Homeless Shelter.

FINANCIAL REPORT 2018-19.
I would like to THANK everyone for making our parish as deficit free. The budget for 2018-19 is attached in the bulletin for you to look at. Hope all those who have taken one, had the opportunity to see the budget. Compare to last year budget, this year the budget has gone up almost $26,000.00. It is because our income from St. Elizabeth $11.500.00 has stopped, the OCS
has increased from $165,620.00 to $174,478.00 and $4000.00 is added to Jacob’s salary that was deducted last year as his continuing education. We have budgeted $3,500.00 for a maintenance person. We have an increase in our insurance policies up to 2.5% - 5%; also we have an increase of 2% salary to the pastor and 1% salary for the staff. Beginning of this financial year, I have decided to give you a financial report of the year. I have decided to do so because I believe that since you support the parish you have the right to know how your money is being spent. And also it will be an eye opener for some of you who do not think much of the church maintenances that we do. And like any other institutions we too have a lot of expenses like heating bills, insurances, diocesan assessment, OCS assessment, salaries etc. Again I would say that you had been very generous with your time, talents and treasure in the past year. And I hope you continue to be generous as you were in the past. We are in a good shape than last year, just because of many volunteers to do some works. I have no doubt in my mind that without your commitment and love for the church, it would have been impossible to pay the bills and take care of the needs of the church. So once again thanks for all that you do for the church both your monetary contributions and all volunteer works you do. After looking at the contribution list from July 1
st 2017- June 30
th 2018, I could come to know that those
who are giving more still continue to give and some who can contribute a little more still do the same. Still, a few contribute nothing. I appreciate what you are doing to the parish. And to those who are not contributing, please reconsider your commitment to maintain the Church. I don’t want to hurt your feelings, but I have to say the fact. And you need to know what the parish needs are. Let us try to do our best and God takes care of the rest. God doesn’t ask us to give out of his own need, for what we receive in return, he asks us to give as a reflection of how generous He has been to us. Once again thanks to all, for what you do to our parish. May God continue to bless you all. Peace. Fr. Shaiju Thomas. Pastor.
Saturday evening Mass on July 28th will begin at 4:30PM. This is due to a
wedding scheduled at 6:00 before our Mass times were changed. The
following weekend will be back at 5:00PM.”

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mark 6:30-34
“His heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a
shepherd.”
Jesus was well acquainted with sheep. Then, as now, herds of sheep
were everywhere. In countries like Israel and Jordan sheep have the right of way
because they have roamed the land for centuries before modern
transportation. But without a shepherd to lead and protect them sheep scatter, may
not be able to find food and water, and are defenseless against predators. Jesus
saw that the Jewish people of his day were not being lead and protected by their
religious leaders. They were scattering and searching for spiritual food and hope,
and were under attack by people and leaders of other cultures who tempted them
to abandon their God. Jesus saw them like sheep without a shepherd. He started
to teach them by word and example. He freed them from the burden of excessive
sanitary rules and rituals, and reminded them of what God told them through
Moses: “Love your God and love your neighbor as yourself.” It is not
complicated but it is not easy. Yet, many believed and followed Jesus. Do we
believe and follow Jesus?
