Thank you for taking a moment to learn about my website, SistersSpace.com. In reading my latest book selection, When and Where I Enter by SisterAuthor Paula Giddings, I realized more than ever why sisterhood among Black women is so important. When notable Women’s suffrage leaders like Susan B. Anthony were denying Black Women a voice during conventions and meetings, it was the collective actions of women like Ida B. Wells and Mary Church Terrell that forced white women to stand up and take notice of the unique needs of Black Women. I created SistersSpace with the ultimate goal of forging a true, tangible spirit of sisterhood among Black Women around the world. I did this because, just as sisterhood was needed in the days of Sister Wells and Sister Terrell, it is just as critical today. I have known of very capable Sisters who were passed over for career advancement oppor-tunities and told, “you’re just not ready yet.” There are countless stories of Sisters who have shopped their film or product ideas around, only to be rejected and find their work or product in a theatre or Walmart nearby. Through the growing portfolio of products and services offered by SistersSpace, I desire to create a place where Sisters of all ages and geographic locations can be nourished, encouraged, and equipped with whatever tools they need to achieve their dreams. While there are not nearly enough Sisters in positions of national prominence or discretionary authority, those of us who are in these positions have an added responsibility. We must “make the way straight” for other Sisters so that, when our time has come and gone, we can look back and see the echoes of our efforts. It is this strong belief that guides everything I do for the website and my members. The essence of our Sisterhood is found in the innumerable opportunities that have been denied to us, but the immeasurable power to progress that lies within us. Collectively, the Black Sisterhood is unstoppable and it is my mission that SistersSpace be the vehicle through which Black Women realize just how powerful they are.

Yours in Sisterhood,

Jones. “The images were of women in g-strings or provocative poses. I said to myself, ‘There is so much more to the Black Woman than these images suggest.’ SistersSpace was born after that moment.”

Lee.

As for the future, the young entrepreneur says, “The sky is the limit for this site. Members are spreading the word like wild fire. I like to write personal welcome messages on all new members’ pages, and it is be-coming very difficult to keep up and still lead a productive full-time career” she jokingly adds. “Ultimately, SistersSpace is the vehicle through which I intend to forge a true spirit of sisterhood among Black Women around the world.”

Hi Nona. Thank you so much for creating this site. So often society has caused us to hate and envy one another, but through this site I believe that black women are going to be able to share, love, and console one another. They will also be able to strengthen one another when there is no one around but this site. Thank you again. God bless you and your family…-SisterMember Inez

I could only listen to the second half of “Sisters, Recession Proof Your Finances” on The Nona Jones Show, but I just want to say - Fabulous! Nona, I thank you for the vision and insight to share such powerful information with us. I think one of the most pertinent pieces of data shared in this episode was the use of self-discipline and restraint. -SisterMember Anntwanique

I truly enjoyed this interview. Mrs. Nona, job well done!!! I found myself taking down so many notes on my notepad while Lynnette passed on her valuable information. Nona, you asked spe-cific,detailed, and precise questions that I could benefit from. -SisterMember Lynn

“The greatest achievement of the human spirit is to live up to one's opportunities and make the most of one's resources.”- Marquis deVauvenargues Nona C. Jones is a living testament to this powerful observation. At 26-years old, Jones is an au-thor, sought-after speaker, public relations executive, well-regarded community leader, entrepre-neur, and minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. When people meet her, they are often surprised by how much she has accomplished at such a young age.

“Grace,” Jones explains. “It is nothing more than the grace of God that has afforded me the opportunities I have had. I held two execu-tive level positions before my 26th birthday. I consider myself to be blessed beyond what I could ever deserve.”

Professionally, Jones provides executive oversight and leadership to the Office of Community Relations for Gainesville Regional Utilities, the 5th largest municipal electric utility in Florida. In this role, she offi-cially represents the utility on the local, state, and national level. She is also responsible for the successful implementation of the company’s Community Relations and Diversity strategies. Furthermore, she exer-cises discretionary authority over the company’s charitable investments to ensure their alignment with the Community Relations Strategy and business direction.

On the entrepreneurial front, Jones is the founder and owner of SistersSpace.com, the fastest growing online community for Black women. SistersSpace provides a place where sisterhood is fostered among Black Women around the world. The site not only offers discussion forums, vid-eos, and more than 20 different SisterGroups, but it also produces and hosts The Nona Jones Show. The Nona Jones Show features leading Black Women from every field of endeavor, discussing the issues that are relevant and of interest to members and visitors. In early 2009, Jones will pub-lish Sisters Space Magazine, an electronic publication of SistersSpace.com.

Jones’ community leadership is extensive. She is President of the Alachua PACE Center for Girls Board of Directors, Chairman of the East Gainesville Development Corporation Board of Direc-tors, Vice-Chairman of the East Gainesville Relay for Life Committee, Co-Chair of the City of Gainesville Affirmative Action Committee, and a member of the United Way of North Central Florida Campaign Cabinet. Her additional board service includes the Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Alachua County Affordable Housing Steering Committee, and the Girl Scouts of Gateway Council (encompassing 16 North Florida counties).

She is a member of the Leadership Gainesville Alumni Association, National Black MBA Associa-tion, Rotary Club of Gainesville, and the Gainesville Women’s Forum, a club for the top 50 women business and community leaders in Gainesville. Jones is a proud graduate of the Univer-sity of Florida, acquiring both a Bachelor of Science in Communications and Masters of Business Administration from the institution. She is married to Pastor Timothy L. Jones and they are the proud parents of two fun-loving Chihuahua’s named Honey-Bun and Bandit.
