Unfortunately Mr. Nan Su from the SOH In-
ternational Chinese Radio Network and NTD
International TV network had to cancel his
presentation due to a death in his family. He has resched-
uled for our September 27th meeting. A special thanks to
Mark Perl for stepping in and updating us on the latest
credit card business. For our August meeting we will have a
dynamic duo. Jerry Helmey and Don Fuller will give us joint
presentation on their ventures in South Africa. Should be
of great interest since many of us have not traveled there.
Al Edwards - Little Sir
We need a volunteer to help with the library,
and please if you have any books, bring them
to the luncheon meeting and swap your book for one that
is there or just donate a book.
As I stated before we are always looking for new ac-
tivities for Branch 49, any ideas we would like to hear
from you.
I just read Harold J. Himmelsback experience during
the Normandy Invasion, its well written and what an ex-
perience. Thank your for your service Harold. See you all at lunch on August 29
Cheers, Jerry Helmey - Big Sir

LITTLE SIR - Al Edwards (916) 847-5582
As previously reported, we lost Chuck Jacobs and Bud
Powell, both died late in July from Cardiac problems.
Ryan O’Brian has suffered a neck injury, and is in a
cast or brace and is in a care facility. I spoke with him
today, and he says he will be in the brace until Sep-
tember, and will have to remain at the facility. I’m
sure he would appreciate a call from friends and well-
wishers. His cell phone number is in the roster.
Former Br 49 member Dick Parsons’ wife passed away
in July.
Former Br 49 member Andy Bauer has recently ex-
perienced a lot of difficulty walking, I do not know the
background.
Our friends Paul Kuzmich and Robert Eplett continue
their journey with cancer, both demonstrate the cour-
age to face life as it comes to them, and both have
our prayers and well wishes.

Sunshine Report Jack DuBé
“The WWII veterans breakfast meeting at IHop has been
discontinued. These men, who have given their country so
much, are dwindling to a precious few, and those able to
drive to the breakfast are even fewer. Bud Powers,
USMC, and Art Greenwood USAAC/USAF have conceded
that since the last few meetings have had only two or
three participants, it is time to call it a day."

We had a very successful month of July. First, we had
our Team Qualifier for the State Team Championship at
Mather on July 8th. Branch 49 swept the top three
places:
Team Brewer, Nakamura, Thomas, and Condon shot
55.58 to win by two strokes.
Team Reisman, Smith, Garcia, and McKim shot 57.58
to edge out the third place team by .20.
Team Edwards, Baker, Myers, and Jacobs shot a 57.78
to take third place.
All three teams will go to Rancho Solano on August 12th to
represent Branch 49 in the State Championship.
On July 1st we played at Wildhawk Golf Course. We had
some really good scores. Not only did we have one person
shoot their age, we had two. Chuck Bradshaw shot a gross
73 to win the A flight by 6 shots. In addition, Chuck shot
his age. He is 77 years old. Way to go Chuck. Bob Smith
shot a gross 81 to win the second flight by 3 shots. Bob
also shot his age. He is 84 years old. Nice going Bob.

August 2019 TREASURERS REPORT
Remember to make your reservations and
attend the August 29 Luncheon, members
can look forward to good drink, good food,
and renewing good friendships. In July,
three members failed to show after making
reservations for lunch. Our club had to pay for those 3
lunches. Please do not be a NO-SHOW. Alcohol Bever-
age Control has substantially increased our monthly li-
cense, and after discussions the Board has decided to
keep the refreshment prices the same.
July 1 Balance $4,412.12
July Receipts $1,732.07
July Disbursements $2,038.90

ADVISORY COMMITTEE The branch created an advisory committee to advise
and make suggestions to the Branch Executive Commit-
tee. Our first phone contact occurred in April, and 6
men agreed to participate in the Advisory Committee.
The participants are Manuel Cordero, Jack DuBe, Nick
Econome, Mike McCormack, Jack Mehl, Dick Merz, and
Ron Peters.
The first ‘contact’ that the committee made with each
other resulted in several suggestions for the BEC, and
I am pleased to report that two of those suggestions
have been implemented. Big SIR Jerry Helmey, and Lit-
tle SIR Al Edwards have volunteered to be the
‘Sergeants-AT-Arms”. The intent is to gently remind
lunch attendees to keep their table conversations at a
low volume during the times that someone is speaking
from the podium.
The second suggestion was to institute a simple ques-
tion to ask members, to solicit their input on subjects
of interest to all. The first question was presented at
the July lunch, in the form of a multiple choice question
about the lunch meetings. Future questions may be pre-
sented this way, or in direct communication with mem-
bers. I thank the Advisory Committee members for
their input.

Apparently there were no pictures taken at the July
luncheon, so I have selected a few from recent,
and not-so-recent meetings.
