To teach Jesus Christ, fully present in the Eucharist, we need priests. We have all heard for many years of the national shortage of priests. As the number of retiring priests grows, the need for seminarians to re- place them has become more pressing. By the grace of God, many men are answering the call to discern the priesthood and the Archdiocese of Mobile is producing vocations. As of 2019, the Archdiocese of Mobile has 21 men in formation and the Office of Voca- tions has received 9 new applications just this year. The Lord has blessed us with more and more worthy “homegrown” men from right here in Central and South- ern Alabama. These ordinary men are extraordinary in their steadfast decision to be men of faith. We have any opportunity to set ourselves up for a con- tinually growing source of seminarian income, but it will require initial investment to make this exciting future a reality. In order to prepare and have the greatest impact on the needs of our seminarians and clerical future of the Archdiocese, the Generations of Faith – Endowing Our Future with Hope campaign seeks to raise $9,000,000 for the Seminarian Endowment.

Endowing Our Future - Priest Formation

The parish priest is central to the daily spiritual growth of Catholics. To teach Jesus Christ, fully present in the Eucharist, we need priests. We have all heard for many years of the national shortage of priests. As the number of retiring priests grows, the need for seminarians to re-

place them has become more pressing. By the grace of God, many men are answering the call to discern the priesthood and the Archdiocese of Mobile is

producing vocations. As of 2019, the Archdiocese of Mobile has 21 men in formation and the Office of Voca-tions has received 9 new applications just this year. The

Lord has blessed us with more and more worthy “homegrown” men from right here in Central and South-ern Alabama. These ordinary men are extraordinary in

their steadfast decision to be men of faith. We have any opportunity to set ourselves up for a con-tinually growing source of seminarian income, but it will require initial investment to make this exciting future a

Monday, June 29th, the Holy Catholic Church remembers Saints Peter and Paul.

Peter was the leader of the apostles and the first pope. Paul was born Saul, but converted to Chrisanity on the

road to Damascus. They had been imprisoned in the infamous Mamerne Prison of Rome and both had foreseen

their approaching death. It is said that they were martyred at the command of Emperor Nero.

Even though they were killed on the same day, their method of execuon would have differed.

Saint Peter was crucified, whereas Saint Paul would have been beheaded with a sword as he was a Roman cizen

and afforded a quicker execuon. It is said of Peter that he was crucified head downward as he didn't feel worthy

of being crucified in the same way as Jesus.

On June 29th, coastal and island communies may decorate their boats and wharves to give praise to St. Peter,

who was the patron saint of fishermen. St. Paul was known for his handcra/. This is probably one of the oldest

feast days celebrated in the Chrisan calendar. In 2010, images of Peter and Paul were found on the wall of

catacombs dang back to the 4th Century AD.

O holy Apostles, Peter and Paul, intercede for us. Protect, O Lord, your people who trust in the O holy Apostles, Peter and Paul, intercede for us. Saint Thomas the Apostle

Feast Day July 3

(1st Century – December 21, 72)

Saint Thomas the Apostle’s Story

Poor Thomas! He made one remark and has been branded as “Doubng Thomas” ever since. But if he doubted, he

also believed. He made what is certainly the most explicit statement of faith in the New Testament: “My Lord and

My God!” and, in so expressing his faith, gave Chrisans a prayer that will be said ll the end of me. He also occa-

sioned a compliment from Jesus to all later Chrisans: “Have you come to believe because you have seen me?

Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed” (John 20:29).

Thomas should be equally well-known for his courage. Perhaps what he said was impetuous—since he ran, like the

rest, at the showdown—but he can scarcely have been insincere when he expressed his willingness to die with Jesus.

The occasion was when Jesus proposed to go to Bethany a/er Lazarus had died. Since Bethany was near Jerusalem,

this meant walking into the very midst of his enemies and to almost certain death. Realizing this, Thomas said to the

other apostles, “Let us also go to die with him” (John 11:16b).

Reflecon

Thomas shares the lot of Peter the impetuous, James and John, the “sons of thunder,” Philip and his foolish request

to see the Father—indeed all the apostles in their weakness and lack of understanding. We must not exaggerate

these facts, however, for Christ did not pick worthless men. But their human weakness again points up the fact that

holiness is a gi/ of God, not a human creaon; it is given to ordinary men and women with weaknesses; it is God

who gradually transforms the weaknesses

into the image of Christ, the courageous,

trusng, and loving one.

One day Elisha came to Shunem, where there was a woman of influence, who urged him to dine with her. Afterward, whenever he passed by, he used to stop there to dine. So she said to her husband, “I know that Elisha is a holy man of God. Since he visits us often, let us arrange a little room on the roof and furnish it for him with a bed, table, chair, and lamp, so that when he comes to us he can stay there.” Sometime later Elisha arrived and stayed in the room overnight.

Later Elisha asked, “Can something be done for her?” His servant Gehazi answered, “Yes! She has no son, and her husband is getting on in years.” Elisha said, “Call her.” When the woman had been called and stood at the door, Elisha promised, “This time next year you will be fondling a baby son.”

Brothers and sisters: Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesuswere baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life.

If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him. As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God. Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as dead to sin and living for God in Christ Jesus.

Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. "Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophetwill receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because the little one is a disciple— amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his re-ward.”

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, The Only Begotten Son of God, Born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, True God from True God, Begotten, not made, Consubstantial with the Father, Through Him all things were made, For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven, And by the Holy Spirit Was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, And became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, He suffered death and was buried, And rose again on the third day In accordance with the scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated At the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory To judge the living and the dead And His kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, The giver life, who proceeds from The Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son Is adored and glorified, Who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic And apostolic Church. I confess one baptism For the forgiveness of sins And I look forward to the resurrection Of the dead And the life of the world to come. Amen.

Presentation Hymn: The SummonsPresentation Hymn: The SummonsPresentation Hymn: The SummonsPresentation Hymn: The Summons

Will you come and follow Me If I but call your name? Will you go where you don’t know And never be the same? Will you let my love be shown, Will you let My name be known, Will you let My life be grown In you and you in Me? Will you leave yourself behind If I but call you name? Will you care for cruel and kind And never be the same? Will you risk the hostile stare Should your life attract or scare? Will you let Me answer prayer In you and you in Me? Will you let the blinded see If I but call your name? Will you set the prisoners free And never be the same? Will you kiss the leper clean, And do such as this unseen, And admit to what I mean In you and you in Me? Will you love the ‘you’ you hide If I but call your name? Will you quell the fear inside And never be the same? Will you use the faith you’ve found To reshape the world around, Through My sight and touch and sound In you and you in Me?

Lord, Your summons echoes true When You but call my name. Let me turn and follow You And never be the same. In Your company I’ll go Where Your love and footsteps show. Thus I’ll move and live and grow in You and You in me.
