EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Singapore Apex Corporate Sustainability Awards Gala Dinner
2016 was held on 26 October 2016 at PARKROYAL on Pickering
and graced by Mr. Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for the Environment
and Water Resources.
180 guests were present to witness the presentation of the awards
to the organisations that were recognised for their outstanding
performance in corporate sustainability. These organisations were
lauded for their sustainable business model and operations or as a
contributor to the field of clean technology. In addition, a
posthumous award was presented to the late Mr. Kwek Leng Joo’s
family to express our deepest appreciation for his service to the
local Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) movement. The
dinner was also a platform to acknowledge our partners and
donors of Global Compact Network Singapore (GCNS).

ABOUT THE AWARDS
Introduction
The Singapore Apex Corporate Sustainability Awards represents the most prestigious
form of recognition for companies in Singapore on Corporate Social Responsibility and
Corporate Sustainability. It aims to identify and motivate business leaders who are able
to influence and guide their industry peers to join them in the sustainability pursuit.
Award Categories
Clean Technology (SME1)
Clean Technology (Large Organisation)
Sustainable Business (SME)
Sustainable Business (Large Organisation)
In the Sustainable Business category, winners must exemplify their commitment to the
Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact covering the four pillars of human
rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
In the Clean Technology Category, winners have to demonstrate innovative
developments that bring about environmental and social benefits to their adopters.
Outcome
A maximum of three “Winner”s is selected for each category annually. Of the three, one
may be awarded the title “Apex Winner”. This title is given to the organisation that
stands out within each category and exhibits holistic performance across all criteria.
The “Apex Winner” title is only given once to any organisation. In the following years,
they can continue to apply for the Awards but the highest honour they may clinch is the
“Winner” title.

Judging Process
Applicants have to go through a preliminary round of evaluations based on their
application and are subsequently shortlisted done by GCNS and the knowledge partners.
The knowledge partners are Frost & Sullivan and KPMG for the Clean Technology and
Sustainable Business categories respectively.
Shortlisted finalists were then invited to present their case to an independent panel of
judges from various sectors, which then decided on the winners. The Sustainable
Business Category finalists were also required to conduct a site visit before the final
presentation.

Judging Panel
Our panel of judges (five for each category) includes the knowledge partner for the
respective category, and esteemed representatives from different sectors of the local
economy including academia, business and government.

GALA DINNER
Nine winners were announced and recognised at the Singapore Apex Corporate
Sustainability Awards Gala Dinner 2016. Mr. Masagos Zulkifi, Minister for the
Environment and Water Resources was the Guest-of-Honour for the evening and
presented the awards to the winners, together with Mr. Ho Meng Kit, Vice President of
the Global Compact Network Singapore.
The dinner was also a platform to acknowledge our donors and partners.
This year, a posthumous award was presented to the late Mr. Kwek Leng Joo to express
our deepest appreciation for his service to the national CSR movement. This award was
accepted by Mr. Kwek’s son, Mr Brian Kwek.
Some 180 guests from the business, trade associations, business chambers and
government sectors attended the dinner.

Posthumous Award
A posthumous award was presented to the late Mr. Kwek Leng Joo for his contribution to
the CSR movement in Singapore. The award was presented by Mr. Masagos Zulkifli and
Mr. Ho Meng Kit; and received by Mr. Brian Kwek, son of the late Mr. Kwek.
