INTRODUCTION

A Mobile ad-hoc network is an infrastructure less

network of mobile devices and operates without

centralized administration A MANET routing protocol is a network layer

protocol that is used to determine appropriate loop

free routes. DSDV, AODV, and DSR are main ad-

hoc routing protocols.

2

ARCHITECTURE OF MANET

3

MANET ROUTING PROTOCOLS

MANET Routing Protocols divided into two categories:

Proactive ad-hoc routing protocols- DSDV

Reactive ad-hoc routing protocols- AODV, DSR.

4

ROUTING IN MANET

Provide the maximum possible reliability - use alternative routes if an intermediate node fails.

Choose a route with the least cost metric .

Give the nodes the best possible response time and throughput.

5

ROUTING IN MANET(Cont..)

Each node must be only concerned about the routes to its destination.

Broadcasts should be avoided .

It is desirable to have a backup route when the primary route has become stale.

6

PERFORMANCE PARAMETERS

• Packet delivery ratio• Packet delivery ratio =Total Packets received at the

destination / Total Packets sent by the source • Average end-to-end delay• Average end-to-end delay = TotalTime duration

evolved by the packets to reach destination / Totalnumber of received packets

7

PERFORMANCE PARAMETERS

• Throughput

• Throughput = number of received packets * packet size * 8 /Total simulation Time

8

PERFORMANCE PARAMETERS

• Packet loss percentage

• Packet loss percentage = Total number of lost packets / Total number of sent packets

• Routing Overhead: The number of extra routing packets “transmitted” per data packet “delivered” at the destination.

FUTURE WORK In this review paper the analysis has been done for

routing protocols DSDV, DSR, AODV. The performance of these protocols application specific and shows different performance under different application. It is not clear that any particular algorithm or class of algorithm is the best for all scenarios; each protocol has their own merits and demerits and is well suited for certain situations. It is observed that none of the four protocols perform well in all scenarios. This paper proposes further research into more efficient routing protocols and can also consider some more important performance metrics for analysis with some other network conditions- simulation area, mobility or pause time.
