Simply Speaking Jamestown Friends Meeting – 509 Guilford Rd – PO Box 2163 – Jamestown NC 27282
August 2018
A single drop of rain splashes against the windowpane. Soon it is joined by others as the in-tensity of the rainfall increases. At first, each raindrop stands separately, stands alone. As the raindrop begins its slow journey down the length of the window, creating its own path, something odd, or maybe it is amazing, happens. The drops begin to collide. It might be that their paths intersect on their journey, or that by happenstance a new drop actually splashes into one on its journey. It seems as though there is an attraction between the drops of rain mov-ing slowly down the windowpane, as they come to-gether to move forward on the journey together.
What were once single, independent, drops of rain, moving slowly down the windowpane have gathered into a “mighty” stream moving forward to-gether. One can no longer distinguish between the drops, and the many have become one. Yes, they each bring their own identity and characteristics to the whole, but none is dominant, each adding to the expression of the whole.
Jamestown Friends Meeting is a “windowpane,” created and ordained as a holy space where each person, each spirit and soul gath-ers. Each comes into the meeting room as an indi-vidual, but each cannot sit alone for very long. Oth-ers sit down beside, maybe touching shoulders with their shoulders, maybe greeting others with a smile and a word. Then out of the silence, or even in the silence, we hear (or just know) a part of their story, their journey through defeat and triumph, through falling and rising again. “Their” story is very much like “my” story. A bond develops, and we begin to travel this journey, this spiritual/soul journey togeth-
Light Workers
er, seeking our way to renewal of spirit, of soul, of life. On this journey together, we blend our sto-ries, our spiritual understandings, our longings for a unified life, creating “our” story. “Our” story is not just “my” or “your” story, making it easier for others to join when our paths cross. Our journey together is to “ask the question(s),” seeking together and allow-ing each to come to their understanding, not impos-ing answers or responses. We are rolling down this path together as a whole, composed of many parts. In the Light, Frank Massey pastoral minister 336.454.3813
Rain is grace; rain is the sky descending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life. ~ John Updike It’s a relief to hear the rain. It’s the sound of billions of drops, all equal, all equally committed to falling, like a sudden outbreak of democracy. Water, when it hits the ground, instantly becomes a puddle or rivulet or flood. ~ Alice Oswald I love when rain falls like wet curtains, layer after layer of perfectly shaped individual drops. It’s so easy to think of rain as a collective unit, one consistent and omnipresent mass. It’s so easy to forget that each raindrop is falling alone to meet the earth for the first time. So too are we. Always falling alone, but part of something so much bigger, so much more beautiful than we could ever be alone. ~ Tyler Knott Gregson

Assisted Living, while Binford and Jewell Farlow,
Agnes Frye, David Stanfield, John and Ruth Han-
cock, and Wallace Sills continue to live in independ-
ent living. Jamestown Friends is well represented at
Friends Homes!
Larry Webster is planning a move the first
of August to Norfolk, Virginia, where his son re-
sides. We have enjoyed getting to know his sis-
ter, Nan, who has been here to see him through the
move. We will certainly miss Larry and hope that he
knows that he always has a special place in our
hearts.
Carl and Alison Farlow are expected to be
'home' the end of July and you know that all of the
Farlows are looking forward to this visit. We hope
their visit will bring them to Jamestown so we can
see for ourselves how life in Japan is agreeing with
them.
Our sympathy is extended to the family of
Bill Graves, who died unexpectedly July 2,
2018. Bill was a frequent attender at Jamestown, a
participant in Adult Forum, and a much appreciated
addition to the choir.
Beth Massey has enjoyed some extended
quality time with her grandchildren. Since Brian has
to return to work, Beth has stepped in to assist Ellie
with the new baby, Cypress, while entertaining older
brother, Rye. It's a good thing that Beth has bound-
less energy!
Speaking of boundless energy. Trish Sebens

July with up to 4 grandchildren at a time. The
woods surrounding their home in the moun-
tains provide endless adventures for Trish and the
children. They have been busy walking trails, ex-
ploring secret hideouts, building tree houses, and
swimming in the pond. Sounds wonderful!
I recently heard from Susan Sullivan, who
continues to live in England. Her nursing responsi-
bilities in Guernsey keep her busy, and in her spare
time she is fixing up a house she recently pur-
chased. Susan reports that the U.K. is currently ex-
periencing a terrible heat wave, unusual for that ar-
ea. We can commiserate with her on that!
And now you know!

cousin is a match, and she is hoping to donate a
kidney to Martha. Jamestown Friends are asked to
pray for good health and weight gain for Martha.
She will have medical tests on August 2 that will
determine whether she is healthy enough to receive
the kidney. She and her family ask for our prayers!

Facilitator: Diana (Dee Dee) Cortinas
Storyteller, Teacher, Healer
These are the words that describe Dee Dee. She is a power-ful leader who truly lives by the words she teaches through her Reiki and counseling work. She brings her passion and kindness to all with whom she works..
Born in Walla Walla, Washington Dee Dee has traveled worldwide teaching Reiki, psychic development classes, and medium ship. She has practiced Reiki healing and In-tuitive counseling for years. Her psychic abilities began as a child after having a near death experience through drowning at the age of four. Her grandmother was a Mexi-can "Curandero" and told her she would one day practice healing energies as well. Although she tried to disprove her grandmother's prediction, she eventually realized that liv-ing through Spirit means following the call to service.
A skilled facilitator and creator of many Reiki Circles around the world, Dee has taught many people how to use Reiki to improve their lives; she believes anyone can learn Reiki and that we all have the ability to change our lives in powerful ways.
Dee Dee is an ordained minister through LEWA - Light & Energy Worker Association, Motivational Life Coach, Me-dium, Reiki Master / Teacher and Spiritual Counselor.
About Reiki:
Reiki is a simple, gentle and yet very effective method of healing the body, mind, and spirit, and has something to offer everyone.
Modern Reiki traces its origins to Dr. Mikao Usui, who developed the original Reiki method of healing in the late 1800’s.
Reiki can be defined as “Divinely guided life force ener-gy.”
The word Reiki is composed of two words – Rei and Ki.
The word Rei can be described as Higher Intelligence, Uni-versal Wisdom, God, Source, The Infinite or any other name depending on the culture.
The word Ki is the non-physical life force that flows in and permeates all living things. For example – if a person’s Ki (energy) is high, then that person will generally experience good health and well-being. If the Ki is low, the person may feel out of sorts and will be more likely to get sick.
How Reiki Works:
Our health and well-being depend greatly on the manner in which the Ki or life force energy flows around and through us.
The human body consists of physical and chemical ele-ments as well as a subtle energy system through which this life force flows. This energy system is made up of an energy field which surrounds and interpenetrates the physical body and is called the aura. It contains our life force, thoughts, feelings, beliefs and attitudes – both posi-tive and negative. It also contains information about the state of our physical body, our interpersonal dynamics, our past, our future, our potentials and many more.
Reiki Circle Invitation:
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and re-laxation that also promotes healing.
It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. ...
So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
Come join our Circle and feel the love!
All are welcome.

According to Susan...Bulla, that is
Conrad Hilton, (the hotel mogul), had a dry
sense of humor. Once he was on the Johnny Carson
Show, and he was asked if he had a message for the
American people. He looked straight into the cam-
era and said slowly and distinctly to about 30 million
viewers, "please put the shower curtain inside the
tub."
