Companion is a simple plug-in, dedicated to WhatsUp, to add more application-oriented functionalities and

enhance your monitoring for your databases, applications, infrastructures applications and your application

servers. Companion w ill allow you to expand your monitors list w ith about 20 additional Active Monitors and 6

additional Performance Monitors.

Database Monitoring WhatsUp Companion offers some Active monitors to help databases administrators monitor the performance and

availability of a Database Farm. Database Active Monitors available are Oracle, MySQL, DB2, SysBase, PostgreSQL, Informix.

Some of the MySQL counters available are : Aborted Clients / Aborted Connects / Bytes received / Bytes send / Connection time / Database Size / Table locks waited /

Threads connected / Threads running Some of the Oracle counters available are :

Bytes received / Bytes send / Connection time / Instance used Space / Logical reads / Physical re ads / Physical writes / User calls / User commits / User rollbacks.

Moreover, thanks to MultiDB Query Monitor, we could execute a custom SQL query to compare the result using a threshold

Core Monitoring - --------- WhatsUp companion will enhance the supervision of your core network, thanks to SSH, Telnet and SNMP extended

Monitors. The SSH & Telnet Monitor allows checking procedures on a remote host device through SSH or Telnet.

Use any remote command and check your remote system. The SNMP Extended Monitor allows building SNMP XML Templates for your favorites SNMP devices. A list of pre -built

templates for Cisco, Alcatel, HP Procurve, BlueCoat, 3com, Checkpoint, AKPC, Fortinet, Juniper, SonicWall, Citrix, Lotus are available.

The DHCP Extended Monitor allows checking whats DHCP Server assigned a particular IP address. The DHCP Scope Monitor allows monitoring scopes offered by your different servers. You could check the number of IP address available for

each scope. The Ping Jitter Monitor allows making some performance measures through a Ping (Jitter). With this monitor you could be

alerted in case of Jitter overtaking.



Web and Applications Servers Monitoring Some Active Monitors will allow you to monitor your Applications servers. These monitors allow checking values of

your applications servers with predefined values (For example: Server versions, Total accesses, Total Traffic.). Different values are predefined according to the monitored servers.

Applications Servers Monitors available are Apache, Tomcat, Zapcat, WebSphere, JBoss. The JMX Monitor allows you to monitor any server that supports JMX by directly connect to the server and request

for JMX counter that server support. This plug-in also allows administrator easily browsing all available counter and add to the monitoring list

Remote Agents Support The NRPE Monitor allows checking values gathered by a Nagios NRPE agent installed on remote host device.

Every Nagios plug-in is supported. Zabbix Monitor allows checking Windows, Linux and Apache. This module allows server administrators checking performances and health of it. The values are gathered by a specific agent on

the remote device.



Standard Applications Monitoring

The File Parser Monitor allows checking recurrence of a string or expressi on in text fi le. The monitor wil l alert if the threshold is exceeded. The Mailer Monitor Extended allows to analyze Email for a specific account and return an alert

according to the parameters (sender, subject contains and number). The SFTP Monitor allows checking remote sftp commands on your fi le transfer server like put, get , pwd , ls.

Infrastructures Applications Monitoring The DNSBL Monitor allows checking a domain name presence in a DNS Blacklist. Some pre-configured blacklists are

available and extendable. The HTTP Certificate Monitor allows checking SSL certificate uses. It gives the possibly to alert on different errors like

certificate expiration approach. The NTP Monitor Extended allows comparing the time between the NTP server time and the local computer time.

DNS Monitor Extended verifies if the DNS server is always up compared with a request (DNS lookup). You can use it to check if a computer has always its DNS server up or if your website is always up.

Performance Monitor Oracle MySQL - Apache - Telnet Jboss WebSphere NRPE -Tomcat

Performance Monitors allows collecting and graphing different Oracle, MySQL, Apache, Telnet, JBoss, WebSphere,

NRPE or Tomcat parameters.



Global End User Monitoring (GEUM)

Global End User Monitoring GEUM, is a collection of applications available in the WhatsUp Companion extended Plug-in. GEUM

allows network administrators to collect performance data of web applications and monitor the state or response time of web

applications. GEUM contains an Active Monitor and a Performance Monitor to monitor web application performances with

WhatsUp Gold.

The system contains:

GEUM Recorder: The Recorder lets administrator create a test plan. You can record your actions to w eb brow ser and save it to a

local XML file. Then HTML sessions can be executed locally or remotely by different GEUM players.

GEUM Player: Players allow executing different HTML sessions contained in XML files. Thus, the different players carry out the

various performances tests as response times.

GEUM Scheduler: The Scheduler periodically sends command to player computers and receives performance data. These data are

stored in xml formatted result f ile, w hich can be used to monitor the performance of a w eb server.

Integration w ith WhatsUp Gold: GEUMWebAppMon Active and Performance Monitor are available in WhatsUp Companion extended and allow processing the result f ile collected by GEUM Scheduler. Active Monitor raises message if any w eb server is in

critical state and the Performance Monitor allow s graphing response time or other performances of w eb applications.



Apache JMeter

The WhatsUp Companion Extended plug-in contains also an Active Monitor dedicated Apache JMeter. It allow s monitoring various

servers (w eb server, ftp server, mail server ) using Apache JMeter softw are.

Apache JMeter is open source softw are, a 100% pure Java desktop application designed to load test functional behavior and measure performance. It w as originally designed for testing Web Applications but has since expanded to other test functions. In

JMeter server computers, JMeter server is started to receive test plan from Whatsup installed computer, JMeter client, and carry out

the testing process. The sample result is then transferred back to JMeter client for parsing and test against threshold values.
