Norwin Christian Church ~ Leadership Retreat 2012

Norwin Christian Church

What does a disciple

of Jesus Christ look like?

What do others see in their life?

Simple Church

Thom Rainer &

Eric Geiger

If spiritual growth is a process,

it would make sense for church

leaders to design their churches

around the process

of spiritual growth. (p. 59)

1 - Clarity

• Define

• Illustrate

• Measure

• Discuss

• Share

2 - Movement

• Strategic Circles

• Sequential Thinking

• Intentionality

• Next Steps

• Welcoming New Members

3 - Alignment

• Accountability

• Implement the Process Everywhere

• Unity around the Process

4 - Focus

• Saying No over time

1) How clear is our process? Any adjustments necessary?

2) What’s the stated connection between “drawing close to God” and “making disciples of Jesus Christ?”

3) Any thoughts on how we should illustrate our process?

People become mature disciples at NCC by Coming to God,

Walking with the Word of Life, Connecting in Community,

and Living for Jesus.

1) What has been our view of spiritual growth? Does it match 2 Corinthians 3:18?

2) What one program best represents each step in our new discipleship process? (Movement)?

3) What programs need a change in focus to better reflect our revised process? (“When you tweak a program, you tweak a tradition.”)

4) What else should we do in response to the things learned about Movement? (Sequence, New Members Class, Etc.)

“So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the

glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and

more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.” (NLT)

1) How would you improve unity around our new process in the months ahead?

2) What would “the same process everywhere” mean to our programming?

3) Why is adding new “people” or “programs” at church an important part of the “alignment” principle?

“For the sake of unity, we have chosen to express our

discipleship process using the same words.”

1) How receptive is our church to change?

2) Will the majority of our people understand our ministry process BEFORE focus takes place, AS focus is taking place, or AFTER focus has occurred?

3) How long do you think each transition step would take at our church?
