  • Department of Physical Chemistry and Technology of Polymers as a part Faculty of Chemistry at Silesian University of Technology is an internationally recognised laboratory in the field of conducting polymers, their synthesis, doping and characterisation for organic electronics. The scientific group has an experience in international cooperation, including participation in European Commission programs in both FP7 and H2020 Framework Programme. The researchers are experts in the synthesis of electronic conducting polymers, the physicochemical characterisation of polymers, oligomers and composite materials, synthesis and characterisation of new organic materials for optoelectronics and photovoltaics.

The Silesian University of Technology (SUT), is the oldest technical university in the region and one of the most prestigious in Poland. It was established in 1945 as a scientific and

educational facility for Upper Silesia, the most industrialized area in Poland, and one of the most industrialized in Europe. For over 70 years of its history, it has always been a public institution, playing a cultural and opinion forming role in the region.

The Silesian University of Technology occupy leading positions in both national and international rankings. It ranked 5th among technical universities and 13th among all universities in Poland in the “Perspektywy” Educational Foundation Ranking. Two study programmes: environmental engineering and logistics were considered the best in Poland, which allowed SUT to rank 4th in the whole country in terms of engineering study programmes. In the SCImago Institutions Ranking (SIR), an international classification of higher education institutions, Silesian University of Technology was awarded the 4th place in Poland and 17th in Eastern Europe.

  • The project focuses on organic electronics, an emerging and promising research field and industrial sector with numerous innovative applications.

The overall aim of the project is to boost the scientific excellence and innovation capacity in organic electronics of the Silesian University of Technology (SUT) by creating a network with the high-quality Twinning partners: University of Durham (UDUR), Institute of Nanoscience and Cryogenics, Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (INAC) and Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE). To achieve this aim, the three year project was build upon the existing strong science and innovation base of chosen universities and research institutions.

The UDUR research group has been instrumental in the development of spectroscopic study and characterization of OLED materials over the last 20 years. The group specializes in the development of measurement techniques for both materials and OLED devices and the use of spectroscopy to develop new materials and device architectures.

The research group at the TUE is a leading group in the discipline of functional molecular materials and their optoelectronic devices. Group combine synthetic chemistry with transient optical spectroscopy, advanced scanning probe microscopy techniques, and charge transport studies with the fabrication and testing of state of the art devices,

Research institute based in Grenoble, is a major actor in fundamental research on condensed matter, soft matter and cryogenics. It has programmes in several strategic areas: low carbon energy, information technology, heath technology, global defence and security development.

To boost their scientific excellence and technology transfer capacity in organic electronics, the partners implement a science and innovation strategy focused on three sub-topics:

    1. Innovative organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) – SUT with UDUR

    2. Advanced characterisation of charge transport in organic electronics - SUT with INAC

    3. Advances in organic solar cells (OSCs) – SUT with TUE
