WHAT IS SILENT NO MORE?

On some reservations,

Native American women are murdered at 10 times the rate of

the national average. This documentary, created by White

Bison, Inc. and the Wellbriety Movement, presents an authentic look

at missing and murdered Indigenous Women. Families from Pine Ridge, South Dakota and Lame Deer, Montana share their stories of suffering in this film. By sharing their experiences, they hope to

bring awareness to these issues.

WHAT IS A SILENT NO MORE SCREENING?

A Silent No More Screening is an affiliated White Bison event, organized at the local level by an individual or group who wants to share the Silent No More documentary with their community.

By registering your event, White Bison will provide:

1. A SCREENING KIT to help make your event a success. Your screening kit will include:

3. EVENT PLANNING TIPS to help make your screening a success!

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO HOST A SILENT NO MORE SCREENING?

1. Make your screening free and open to everyone; 2. Fill out the evaluation form after your event

HOW DO I SIGN UP TO ORGANIZE A SILENT NO MORE SCREENING? Registration must be received at least one month before your event. This will allow us to process your registration and send you your screening packet at least two weeks before your event. Before your event you, your counselor and your facilitator will want to view the documentary to be prepared for your event! Sharing this film with your local community, creates a dialogue and

helps raise awareness. Your support will help spread the word about the film and

bring its message to new audiences. This is your chance to become part of

something important!

In these pages you will find step-by-step instructions and advice on

setting up your screening. These tips are designed to meet the needs of a wide range of audiences and situations.



HOW DO I HOST A SCREENING OF SILENT NO MORE? With your kit you will receive all the resources you need to host a successful screening. Hosting a screening comes down to these five steps: 1. MAKE A PLAN

1. Make a plan Decide when and where you’ll host your screening. Reach out to your local schools/universities, community centers, wellness institutions or other places to find a location for your event. You will want to consider the size and accessibility of the venue when researching. The film is 52-minutes long. To leave time for substantive discussion, as well as introductions and acknowledgements, your event will need to be at least 1.5 hours long. You will also want to research and consider other events that could overlap with the date or time you choose for your screening. To register your event and receive a screening kit, you will have to have a finalized date, time and location for your screening.

2. Gather your resources Think about the different resources you will need for your event. Below is a checklist to follow or you can create your own!

Reach out to someone in your community to be a facilitator. This will allow your community members to reflect on the messages of Silent No More and share their experiences. Be sure to have your facilitator read through the discussion questions and facilitator tips before your event. If possible, the facilitator should also watch Silent No More before your event to best



prepare for the discussion. We provide optional discussion questions and facilitator tips in the Discussion Guide, available at: http://wellbriety.com/wellbriety/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/RSNMS_DiscussionGuide-1.pdf c Find a COUNSELOR The Silent No More Documentary examines difficult issues so, if it is possible, it will be beneficial to have a counselor available at your screening. Reach out to a mental wellness organization in your community to get connected with local counselors who may be able to offer their services. c Find AV equipment You will need speakers, a large TV or projector and screen and a DVD player or computer to show the documentary. You will also If you are hosting a discussion after the screening, you may also want to consider finding a microphone. Before your event, set up and test your AV equipment with your copy of Silent No More.

3. Get the word out

Many lives are touched by missing and murdered women. Think out of the box when you think about who might want to attend from your community. Individuals who may be interested in Silent No More include:

- Indigenous Peoples - Youth - Civic and Political groups - University and high school student groups and classes - Educators - People involved in law enforcement and the justice system - Medical and Public Health professionals - Domestic Violence Advocates

Below are ideas on how to market your event:

c Create a Facebook Event - This is an effective way to quickly and easily promote your event. Facebook events also send reminders to those who RSVP and suggests attending your event to others outside your network. Once you create your Facebook event, invite White Bison and we will share your event on our Facebook page. c Flyers - Your Silent No More Screening Kit comes with 10 flyers to fill out and use. Post flyers on bulletin boards and window displays at restaurants,



community centers, schools and universities or other popular places in your community. Fill in your event information and send it to local newspapers and news stations. c Social Media – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media outlets make it easy to alert your friends, family, social and business contacts and others you are connected with about your upcoming screening. When creating a social media post remember to keep your post short and try to use links or images. Posting frequently and replying back on comments to start a conversation can also help bring attention to your event. 4. The Screening

Show the film, host a discussion and help your audience decide what to do next. You will also want to take photos to post to your Facebook event page and share with us (we love to see pictures of attendees and supporters!). 5. After the Event
