1. Scope

This procedure describes the standing orders and instructions for bunker testing.

2. Procedure

Immediately after the bunkering has commenced a sample is to be taken from the manifold for the

purpose of carrying out following tests:

Compatibility with the onboard bunker

Flash point

A total of four samples must be collected from the barge/shore installation and the vessels manifold by

use of a line sampler.

One sample must be retained onboard for commercial / test back-up

One sample must be retained onboard for Marpol compliance (see procedure BMGJ-7PUFVY, 08

Bunkering - Marpol Sampling)

One sample should be retained by the supplier

One sample to be dispatched for analysis purposes

A vessel representative must witness the barge sampling and confirm the sealing of the samples with

signatures by both parties on the label. If this is not possible a Safir report must be raised.

The "Closed cup flash test device" (Pensky Martens) is utilised for testing the bunker oil. The accuracy of

the equipment is +/- 2 degrees while measuring less than 100 degrees. If the test reads 62 degrees or

less than 62 degrees, the bunker operation must not be continued, but the Operational Department

contacted immediately for clarification.

All initial test result must be recorded in the bunker report.

The barge/shore sample will have effect as the official representing oil sample unless being otherwise

stated from the Company.

LINTEC are utilised for analysing samples and sampling / forwarding of samples must be in accordance

with their instructions. Test results will be send directly to the vessels with a copy to the Company.

If the test report is not received onboard within 5 days or if the test-results is off-spec the Company must

be contacted immediately and no consumption must take place.

A list of the samples with seal numbers together with agreed distribution should be signed and issued to

all concerned parties.

6.0 Record Keeping

6.1 All transfers of fuel must be recorded in the ORB part I using code

Page 14: Sikker drift af fuel olie system på produkttankskib · Bunkering - Marpol Sampling) One sample should be retained by the supplier ... 6.1 All transfers of fuel must be recorded in

14

7.1 If the fuel is allowed to start solidifying, it will be nearly impossible to re-liquify it

again by heating. Small pieces can break off and block the transfer lines as well as

the suction from the tank.

7.2 If the fuel is heated to a temperature higher than 10ºC below the flashpoint, it is

considered flammable.

7.3 If water is allowed to accumulate in the tank, it can give rise to bacterial growths

that will block filters and cause problems with sludge.

7.4 When fuel is stored for any period, the fuel will start to settle out. Initially we use

this process to remove free water however the process continues beyond this. Cat

fines and the heavier elements of the fuel will settle out and can be churned up

causing massive difficulties with separators and filters as well as increased wear on

engine parts.

7.5 When recirculating fuel, it is recommended that to circulate the fuel for a minimum

8 hours. If the fuel has settled out, you may experience clogging of the suction

strainer during the recirculation. Frequent cleaning of the filter during recirculation

may be required. The process to be continued until the situation is normalized. If

required the circulation time to be prolonged.
