Requirements Metro Wien
RWS Sikacrete® -213F
Project requirementsThe old asbestos fire protection mortar should be replaced with Sikacrete®-213F and the concrete behind has to be repaired. That fire protection layer must protect the concrete in case of a burning railway-car. During the renovation the passengers have to be protected against (asbestos) dust. The refurbishments don’t have to obstruct the traffic.
Project SolutionsDue to low-pressure chambers the refurbishment could be done without pollution in the passenger-areas. After sandblasting the damaged concrete reinforcement was protected by SikaMonoTop®-610 and the defective concrete was repaired with SikaTop®-122 SP.A layer thickness of 25 mm Sikacrete®-213F was enough to fulfil the required standard. The 2200 m2 were applied by an application crew of 3-5 workers plus 1 man at the pump outside of the depression camber.

IntroductionThe railway station Wien Mitte is very centrally located between the center of Vienna (Innenstadt) and the precinct Landstrasse. With 30’000 railway passengers per day, Wien Mitte is the highest frequented rail-way station in Vienna. At this junction several railway lines and two underground lines (U3 and U4) intersect. The project envisions reconstruction of the entire railway station, with the reconstruction’s investment worth of EUR 400 million. The station building itself will be expanded into a shopping center and office complex. Groundbreaking occurred in July 2007 and completion of the railway station is projected for mid-2010.
Below ground the train platforms will be renovated and lengthened and escalators for both directions will be installed as well as an elevator from the main entrance directly to the platforms. For this purpose and to improve safety, the reinforced concrete construction must be refurbished.
