ABOUT THE WILDCATS ... Wildcats Storylines ...DELLY’S DIMES: Quarterback Patrick Delahunty posted an impressive effort in last week’s game vs. COF Academy. The senior completed 6-of-8 passes for 212 yards and 4 touchdowns. Delahunty didn’t favor one particular receiver, either, connecting with Connor Cmiel, Nate Conry, Jake Lang, and Jack Kennedy for touchdowns. On the year, Delahunty has 555 passing yards and 6 touchdowns, averaging a score every four completions. Delahunty will look to carry his new confidence into a tough Elder matchup.
BO KNOWS THE END ZONE: Perhaps the most prolific scorer on the Saint Ignatius offense is Jahadge “Bo” Floyd. The senior scored his 10th career touchdown vs. COF Academy on a 4-yard run in the first quarter. Floyd leads all active Wildcats with 10 career scores, and is closing in on the Saint Ignatius top 10 list for career rushing yards. Floyd has 185 rushing yards on the year, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. The 5’7, 190-pound back will play a large role vs. Elder in establishing the run, which the Wildcats hope will open the play-action pass.
EICH’S ARMY: The Wildcats’ defense has held its last two opponents to just 6 points. In four games, the Cats have surrendered 55 points, or just 13.8 points per game, even with opponents out-possessing the Wildcats by an average of 29:33-18:27. The field general at middle line-backer, Tommy Eichenberg, has played a large part in the dominace. The Boston college commit has a team-high 39 tackles and 7 tackles for loss, along with 3.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.
MURPHY’S LAW: Head Coach Chuck Kyle ’69 instituted “Murphy’s Law” vs. COF Academy, playing nearly everyone on the roster. As a result, 16 players received a touch on offense and 23 Wildcats record-ed a tackle. The Wildcats had eight receivers catch passes for the first time since Week 2 of 2016.
KICKING CANCER, ONE POINT AT A TIME: The Wildcats special teams unit has dedicated the 2018 season to raising money for pedi-atric cancer research. Teaming up with Kick-It for Cancer, the Wildcats have tallied 11 points and raised $1,215 for the cause thus far this sea-son. Kicker Matt Colella ‘14 began the Kick-It program during his time with the Wildcats, and since then, Saint Ignatius has raised nearly $1 million for children’s cancer research.
JETT AND THE BOBCATS: Wildcats defensive back Jett Elad com-mitted to the Ohio University on Sunday, announcing his decision via Twitter. Elad decided based on OU’s education and the Bobcats’ coaching staff. Read the full story on ignatiuswildcats.com.
FIELD FACTS: Saturday’s contest will mark the first time Saint Igna-tius and Elder have met at Byers Field. The Wildcats are 0-2 at Byers this year, but have not lost 3 straight games in one year at Byers Field since 2006. All-time, the Wildcats have a 114-35-1 record at Byers.
CAPTAINS: The four captains for the 2018 season are Tommy Eichenberg, Grant Abbott, Chris Velotta, Jr., and Nigel Drummond II.

High school football coaches do not strive for fame or glory, especial-ly Wildcats’ head coach Chuck Kyle ’69. But the 35-year veteran received a big honor last week. Max Preps ranked high school football coaches based on a formula, taking into account wins and state/national championships. Kyle came in sixth, on the basis of his 347-89-1 (.798) record, 11 state titles, and 4 national championships. Kyle is also 4 wins away from recording more wins than every other Saint Ignatius head coach combined.

ABOUT ELDER ...
Learning about the Panthers ...BITTNER’S BITE: Elder quarterback Michael Bittner heads the Panthers’ dynamic attack. Bittner leads Elder with 793 yards and 7 touchdowns, completing 64.% of his passes. Bittner also tops the team in rushing with 191 yards and 5 touchdowns. His 30 points lead the team and his 793 pass-ing yards lead the Greater Catholic League (GCL). The senior’s strong arm and quick feet make him Elder’s most prolific player on offense.
SPREADING IT OUT: Elder’s offense has a host of playmak-ers. Running back Luke Masminster is a key player, offering a strong running option and a secure receiver in the flat. The 5’11, 190-pound back has 124 rushing yards (4.0 yards per carry) along with three receptions. Kyle Trischler is the team’s top wideout, with 30 catches for 349 yards and 3 touchdowns. However, the Wildcats can’t focus on just one wideout. Joe Royer has 17 receptions for 279 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Sean O’Conner has 115 receiving yards. Matthew Luebbe is also dangerous – the junior mostly lines up at wideout but can also play quarterback effectively.
SMART OFFENSE: Under the direction of Doug Ramsey, El-der has a strong passing attack. The Panthers exclusively run the offense out of shotgun, often lining up four wideouts in “Gun Trips” or “Gun Doubles” formations. The Panthers love to line up in a trips formation, send the two outside wide-outs deep and run the slot receiver on a post or a flag route. This play worked to perfection against St. Edward, to the tune of two touchdowns. Also look for quarterback draws and rollouts from Bittner.
STRONG D: Elder has a strong defense. The Panthers run a 3-4 offense, with the backside linebacker serving as a line-backer-safety hybrid. The Panthers’ base D plays like a goal line defense, with the front seven hammering the gaps. The Wildcats’ offensive line, especially center Grant Abbott, will need to hold blocks to establish the run.
ZONING LAWS: Out of the 3-4, Elder will employ a mix of man and zone defense to confuse the Cats. The Panthers have a solid secondary, which will play man or a three-deep zone on blitzes and mix man and a two/four-deep zone on typical plays.
DEFENSIVE PLAYMAKERS: Elder has plenty of talented players on defense, chief among them linebacker Jake Hof-meyer. The 6’1, 200-pounder leads the team with 38 tackles, adding an interception. Also watch out for defensive end Spencer Bono (22 tackles, 1.5 sacks), defensive back Eric Beck (23 tackles, 1 interception), and defensive lineman Jake Voelkerding (11 tackles, 2.5 sacks).

S MITCH PUHALSKY ’19Facing an Elder pass-ing attack, the Wild-cats’ secondary needs to have a big day. Free safety Mitch Puhalsky helms the defense as its leader, diagnosing plays and helping over-top. Limiting QB Michael Bittner will be a large part of Puhalsky’s job on Saturday, as the quick playmaker will be tasked with keep-ing passes short and Elder’s receivers out of the end zone.
Center Grant Abbott will play a large role for the Wildcats on Sat-urday. The senior will need to diagnose Elder blitzes and handle Pan-thers nose tackle Kyle Klingenbeck (16 tack-les). Abbott and the offensive linemen will play a crucial role in opening seams for Bo Floyd and Jack Welcsh, and in giving Pat Delahunty time to throw.

In the eyes of Head Football Coach Chuck Kyle ’69 and the Saint Ignatius football team, Saturday’s game vs. Elder is a crucial midseason test.The Wildcats have rebounded to 2-2 with solid
victories over Euclid and COF Academy. A question looms, however. Are the Wildcats a playoff caliber team?Kyle and his troops believe Saturday’s game at
Byers Field will reveal the answer.“This is the fifth game, so we’re halfway through
the season already,” Kyle said. “There are a lot of big ballgames coming up, but we started with two great football teams that are ranked right up there in the state, and rightfully so. Here’s another quality team that plans on going to the playoffs and doing well. The kids realize it’s an important game. ‘Are we ready to say we’re a playoff caliber team?’ This is the type of game that will go 48 minutes. We need to see ourselves do it.”Guided by Doug Ramsey, the Panthers carry a 3-1
record into the contest. Elder defeated Gahanna Lincoln, Indianapolis Cathedral, and Clarkson Foot-ball North to start the year before St. Edward stole a 36-30 win at “The Pit” last Saturday.With a dangerous offense and a dynamic defense,
the Panthers will pose a challenge. ELDER OFFENSE VS. SAINT IGNATIUS DEFENSETraditionally, Elder offenses have a strong passing
game. The 2018 Panthers are no different.Quarterback Michael Bittner leads the charge for El-
der. The 6’2, 200-pound signalcaller has a strong arm and quick feet. Bittner completed 30-of-42 passes for 302 yards and four touchdowns against the Eagles, giving him 793 yards and 7 scores through the air on the year.Bittner has plenty of weapons, including running
back Luke Masminster, wideouts Kyle Trischler and Sean O’Conner, and tight end Joe Royer. Trischler leads the team with 349 yards and 3 TDs. Royer is a dangerous deep threat on posts or flag routes – the 6’5, 210-pound receiver caught two such passes for scores against St. Edward.The Panthers often employ rollouts and quarter-
back draws, operating almost exclusively out of the shotgun formation. Thus far this season, the Wildcats’ defense has
excelled in limiting opponents through the air, hold-ing foes to 120.2 yards per game. Jett Elad, who committed to Ohio University earlier this week, will have a key role in stopping Elder’s passing attack.
Mitch Puhalsky, Jack Kennedy, Chris Velotta Jr., Dan-ny Scelza, and Aidan Rechin will also be important.Up front, defensive lineman Zach McMahan will be
critical in attacking Bittner. McMahan leads the Wild-cats with 4 sacks.Tommy Eichenberg will be important at middle
linebacker, as always. The senior has a team-high 39 tackles and 7 tackles for loss. SAINT IGNATIUS OFFENSE VS. ELDER DEFENSEThe Wildcats’ passing attack took a large leap
forward vs. COF Academy, as quarterback Patrick Delahunty tossed 4 touchdown passes, all to differ-ent wideouts. The Cats will look to build on that big performance vs. Elder.Establishing the run vs. Elder will be of the utmost
importance. Jahadge “Bo” Floyd, who tabbed his 10th career touchdown on a 4-yard score last week, will look to find seams behind the Saint Ignatius of-fensive line. Elder employs a 3-4 defense, with the backside
linebacker operating as a safety/linebacker hybrid. Two middle linebackers head up the guards, the nose tackle plays on the center, and the defensive ends will switch between inside and outside of the offensive tackles.As a result, the Panthers’ defense can be stout
against the run, especially with run-conscious safe-ties. But if the Wildcats can run the ball well, the play-action pass and the deep ball might open up for Delahunty and the Wildcats.As far as coverage, Elder will switch things up. The
coverage often hinges on the backside linebacker/safety – if he blitzes, the Panthers often play man coverage or a three-deep zone. If he hangs back, watch out for a two- or four-deep zone. Elder will not stick to one scheme, as the Panthers will try to confuse the Cats. SAINT IGNATIUS SPECIAL TEAMS VS. ELDER
SPECIAL TEAMSGames often hinge on special teams, and this con-
test just might. The Wildcats have a strong unit with kickoff specialist/punter Pat Otter, field goal/extra point kicker Rory McConville, long snapper Sean Wracher, and holder Henry Cook. The Wildcats have 17 points via special teams this year – 11 extra points and 6 points via a blocked punt. On the other side, Elder has very good special
teams. Connor Ammon averages 41.5 yards per punt, has converted 1-of-2 field goals, and 8-of-11 extra points. Elder has notched 3 punt returns of 10+ yards and a 41-yard kick return.

The Saint Ignatius Wildcats took care of business in impressive fashion on Friday evening in Columbus, easily handling the Christians of Faith (COF) Acad-emy Ironmen, 35-0.Four Patrick Delahunty passing touchdowns to four
different wideouts keyed the victory. The Wildcats scored five first-half touchdowns before easing off the gas pedal in the second half under a running clock.The Wildcats fired out of the gate, pounding the
ball during the first offensive drive. Led by a grind-ing offensive line, the Wildcats marched down the field on an 8-play, 57-yard drive. Jahadge “Bo” Floyd completed the drive with a 4-yard touchdown run up the middle. Seven of the eight plays were Floyd runs, which the senior converted into 43 yards.On the first play of the next drive, the Wildcats
went deep. Delahunty fired a picture-perfect pass to Connor Cmiel on a jet route down the hash marks nearest Wildcats’ sideline. Cmiel hauled in the ball around midfield and raced the final 50 yards for an 86-yard score, his third of the year.Following another great defensive stop, Delahunty
and Co. kept attacking. On the third play of the Wild-cats’ third drive, Nate Conry ran a flag route towards the Saint Ignatius sideline. Delahunty lofted a per-fect ball to Conry, who caught the ball around the 35-yard line. Conry then worked some magic, juking to the right to avoid one defender. COF Academy’s safety awaited Conry near the 10-yard line, where Conry nearly broke the player’s ankles with a beauti-ful cut inside. The senior’s 58-yard touchdown catch marked his first of his career.In the lead-up to Friday’s game, Kyle mentioned
Conry as a player to watch. Conry made his coach proud with two impressive catches for 87 yards and a punt return for 14 yards.Rory McConville converted his third extra point of
the day for a 21-0 Wildcats lead, which stood as the score at the end of the first quarter.The Wildcats earned great field position on their
first drive of the second stanza. On the fifth play of the drive, the Wildcats opted for a run-pass option. Delahunty faked the run inside, pulled back the ball, and scrambled to his right. Seeing Jake Lang open on the right side off the playaction, Delahunty tossed it to the junior for an 11-yard touchdown strike at 7:55 of the second quarter.
Delahunty’s fourth and final touchdown pass oc-curred four minutes later. Jack Kennedy beat his man on a fly route down the near side hash and secured Delahunty’s throw for a 15-yard score. The strike capped off a 5-play, 46-yard scoring drive that only required 1:22 of clock to come to fruition.After stopping the COF offense, the Wildcats
drove down the field in the closing minutes. Senior running back Michael Mangan caught a pass in the flat and dashed 15 yards on a clutch play with 7 seconds left. The Wildcats ran out the clock on the half, but Mangan’s teammates appreciated the play.Entering halftime with a 35-point lead, the run-
ning clock began at the start of the third quarter. The large margin allowed the coaching staff to play nearly every player on the roster. Kudos to Offensive Coordinator Nick Restifo and Defensive Coordinator Ryan Franzinger ’02 and the entire coaching staff for calling a near-perfect first half and playing a wide variety of players in the second half. The visitors held COF Academy scoreless in the
second half. The Wildcats’ hard working second and third-teamers stepped up with great plays to secure the Wildcats’ first shutout of the year.Danny Scelza led the team with 3 tackles, while
Aidan Hubbard followed closely behind with 2.5 tackles. Tommy Eichenberg notched a team-high 2 tackles for loss. A total of 23 Wildcats had a hand in a tackle tonight.On the offensive side, Delahunty completed 6-of-
8 passes for 218 yards and 4 touchdowns. Cmiel led the wideouts with 99 yards on two catches. Eight different Wildcats caught a pass on Friday for the first time since September 3, 2016 during a 49-7 win over Mentor.The victory advanced the Wildcats to 2-2 on the
year heading into next Saturday’s 3 p.m. matchup with Elder at Byers Field.

2018 marks the 91st season that football has been played on this location; now known as Byers Field atRobert M. Boulton Stadium. In 1921, the cities of Parma and Parma Heights opened the first high school for their residents on a site just outside the east bleachers. Seven years later, the apple orchard and grass field located behind the new school was converted into the athletic field with the gridiron laid out in a north-south alignment, just as it is today. Recently, renovations have been completed on the facility. In the last decade, a new lighting system was in-stalled; bleacher improvements (including the installa-tion of handrails) were completed along with renova-tions to the lockerrooms, restrooms and concession areas. Other improvements include the installation of a video board at the north end of the stadium - it is one of the largest video boards in use at a high school facil-ity the state. The pressbox, which has been upgraded in the past five seasons with a new working media area and new windows, seats 30 journalists and broadcasters. New field turf was installed for the 2012 season. In the last two seasons, the stadium has also had handi-cap seating added to both sets of grandstands, includ-ing 46 wheelchair and companion seats on the home side of the stadium. The Parma City Schools invested nearly $1.2 million into the facilty during the summer of 2014, including a new parking lot on the south end of the Stadium and the full replacement of the parking lot on the east side of the stadium, under the Press Box.

CINCINNATI - Kicker Matthew Trickett tied Tim Shenk’s record for the longest field goal in Saint Ignatius history (55 yards versus Detroit Cody on August 27th, 2011). Elder Quarterback Danny Nie-man passed for 303 yards and four touchdowns.
TRICKETT IS THE TICKET:Trickett helped his team to a 17-14 lead by halftime
with a 45-yard field goal and two extra points. The PAT’s came off an 18-yard touchdown pass from QB Danny Alexander to WR Sammy Snyder, which opened the scoring with 8 minutes and 52 seconds remaining in the first quarter, and a 1-yard TD by tailback Mark Bobinski.
NIEMAN AND COMPANY: The Panthers’ Nieman fired first-half TD passes to wide receiver Danny Faillace and wide out Kyle Trischler. Faillace caught 10 passes for 151 yards and Trischler had eight re-ceptions for 116 yards. Trischler’s TD reception came with 5 seconds remaining in the first half.
MORE OF TRICKETT AND NIEMAN:Matt opened the scoring in the second half with
a 40-yard field goal, but the Panthers responded, as Nieman found wide receiver Jack O’Brien for a 20-yard touchdown. After the extra point, the Pan-thers led, 21-20, with 4:40 left in the third quarter. It stayed a 21-20 game until Trickett came up with a record-tying, 55-yard effort.
SAMMY STRIKES AGAIN: Saint Ignatius Alexander and Snyder hooked up again on a 50-yard score, that, after another PAT by Trickett, had the Cats on top, 30-21, with 5:08 remaining in the 4th.
Nieman brought his team back one last time. Directing his team on a 12-play, 80-yard drive that took 2 minutes and 58 seconds, Nieman found Trischler for a 5-yard TD pass that, after the PAT by Harmeyer, cut the deficit to 30-28 with 2:10 left on the clock. Using all of its timeouts, Elder was able to force a punt. Punting inside his 6-yard line, Trickett got off a soaring effort that forced a fair catch at the Panthers’ 31. Nieman’s pass was intercepted by Wildcats cornerback Cam Toppin, at the Saint Igna-tius 27-yard line. It was Cam’s fourth interception on the season.
SOME NUMBERS TO CHEW ON: Alexander was 11-of-17 passing for 190 yards and two TD strikes to Snyder, and rushed for 70 yards on 19 carries. Bobinski rushed for 72 yards and a TD on 11 carries, Jahadge “Bo” Floyd had 59 yards on eight carries, and Snyder hauled in five of Alexander’s passes for 146 yards.
