If you take a bulletin into church, please

take it home with you or throw it in a

trash container in the Gathering Space.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food” (Matt 25:35) St. Vincent parishioners are asked to donate a frozen turkey(s) NEXT weekend, November 13 and 14. Trucks will be at the south entrance of the church before all Masses. Turkeys will be kept frozen until Christmas baskets are assembled with many food items, coloring books, a gift and prayer. These baskets will be given to families that are in desperate need of kindness and food. If you have any questions or would like to provide assistance, please contact the Church Office (260-489-3537 ext. 3)

Over 20 years ago, a Ministry was started with a simple request (from Miss Virginia)… “can you find a turkey for a family in need?” In response, a selfless woman “couldn’t imagine a family without a turkey for their Holiday dinner.” This beautiful spirit was Suzy Beard. She considered herself a “beggar” as her intended pursuit in life. Indeed, she gathered and gave to multiple causes in her lifetime. Last year almost 300 families were served in her Holiday dinner pursuit.

Sadly, the world lost this faithful, loving soul in 2019. And in her honor, we continue her legacy with “Suzy Beard Christmas Dinners.”

Recipients from A Mother’s Hope, Women’s Care Center, Euell Wilson Center, Vincent Village, EACS and FWCS kids in need and both St. Henry and St. Patrick Catholic Churches will be provided these dinners. Our own parishioners will be helped through our St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Many generous individuals and organizations are helping to complete these dinner baskets. However, we need the turkeys from YOU!

Please drop off your frozen turkey before or after Masses NEXT weekend, November 13 and 14.

HISTORY OF SUZY BEARD CHRISTMAS DINNERS

You are invited to experience how several well-documented miracles stand up to scientific investigation and discover what implications these miracles have for you! From altar boy to party boy; from non-denominational mega church back to the Roman Catholic Church. Tim Francis shares with us his quest for truth. human blood • Multiple communion hosts tested by science that

transformed into human heart • Lady being filmed and tested before, during and after

Stigmata • Much more: The meaning of suffering. Why be

Catholic after all the corruption? Are all Religions the same? Why confess to a man when he might be just as sinful? ….

Tim has since conducted over 500 parish missions conveying the meaning of the miracles with results similar to this: from a fallen away son who returned after his mother dragged him to Tim’s presentation: “I wanted to thank you for changing my life. My mom went to day 1 of the 3-day mission… she got me to attend the second day… I was an occasional Mass attendee, mostly holidays. After your talk I made a good confession and now attend Mass DAILY…” from a fallen away Catholic turned Protestant Pastor: “Without hesitation, nor exaggeration, I can say it was this presentation that was the pinnacle of my return to the Catholic Church…. “ From a 36-year-old fallen away Catholic son whose mother prayed for years for his return to the Church: “Seeing the miracles that no science can refute, and the people personally touched by Jesus and Mary forever changed the direction of my life and the makeup of my heart… I felt the power of Jesus and for me that could only have happened by seeing what Tim presented. How are we being good shepherds? OR how are we allowing the Good Shepherd to lead us in our actions? This Sunday’s gospel challenges us to ponder deeply the meaning of total trust in the Lord. Instead of planning and stressing about what we are being called to give in a future context, perhaps we can think

about how I can give right now.

• Right now, I will offer a prayer for that person who cut me off.

• Right now, I will go and play with my children.

• Right now, I will stop the video games and respond to my parents.

• Right now, I will respond to that desire in my heart to pray.

• Right now, I will _________________.

This weekend I’m excited to share that we celebrate our first Sensory Mass at 1:30 pm and will continue to for the foreseeable future. This is a Mass which provides a safe and comfortable setting for children and adults with sensory challenges, mental illness, or any kind of disability to feel engaged and experience Mass in a meaningful way with family and caregivers! Please share with others so that many more can come and experience the love of Christ!

Monday, November 15, at 6:30 pm, Miracles and Their Meaning will be presented by Tim Francis. This will be a wonderful opportunity to come and learn more about the ways in which God shows us miracles. Please plan to join us and be inspired.

God Bless,

Hello everyone! A life of service to loving others is a requirement for all of us, and the giving becomes a sacrifice. Sacrifice in the sense that it becomes a gift of self to make a change in the way we live so that someone can live a better life. This not only benefits the needy, but helps us escape ourselves into the love of another.

Fellow Parishioners, 11/07/21

Greetings in Christ! I continue to reflect on how our school can be, as part of our parish community, a conduit of God’s grace.

Last week, I was visiting some classrooms and saw some truly excellent examples of engagement. I credit our 5th grade team here. In ELA, students were working on descriptive writing, and reticent to engage with the word “descriptive,” their teacher worked very creatively to begin asking the students to describe things around the classroom so they would be “doing” the definition (vs. stating it) and understanding at a much deeper level. As she introduced the activity, she gave them a quick stretch break to stand up and refocus their minds on the task at hand before starting the assignment – students were quiet and focused in this without being loud and disruptive, and these efforts really helped them remain exactly that – highly focused. In 5th grade math, the energy was incredibly fun. Reviewing addition properties with decimals, students had to engage with problems and think, pair, share with partners – excellent engagement tools. To really get the kids excited about math and make sure it would stick, their teacher had a beat/mini-song with the decimals – “drop, the decimal. Drop, drop the decimal!” It was a high energy, positive, fun classroom with the kids simultaneously laughing and really engaging with the work, and understanding the process at a deep level. In religion, the students were reading from the text, and to keep it engaging, their teacher had one student read aloud while the class was reading individually and then the reader would choose the next student to read out loud. This again kept the focus and engagement strong for our kids, vs. everyone reading silently.

So in all cases, there was strong planning and great teaching at work, but each teacher really worked to keep the kids engaged. Another, more basic way of presenting this is that each teacher thought about, planned for, and cared about the relationships she had with each of her students. What a joy! This is exactly what we hope for, for our schools. Our Lord set the model for this. There are several instances in scripture when Jesus wished for time away from the crowds with his apostles. There are scenes of him retreating across a lake, and the crowds hearing where He was going, would follow Him and get to the other side first. Rather than turning around, Jesus was moved to have pity on them and minister to them. Scripture never says this part, but I always imagine because this is Jesus we’re talking about, he truly knew the people in those crowds, the individuals, and that further led him to engage in the ministry. Everything we see in Jesus is how He calls us to relationships via the greatest commandments – to relate to God and to relate to our neighbor by loving both fully.

Great teaching has always been about relationships vs. the specific content involved. The content matters, but it’s the investment in relationships that make great educators exactly that—great. I commend all of our faculty from living from this knowledge and belief, as our 5th grade teachers showed in the examples above. This week, may we have the courage and grace needed to look past the tasks and busyness of life to the relationships of our lives, and ask God to help us invest more deeply there.

In Faith,

Mr. Coyle, Principal

What will this Advent season bring for you?” Submissions will be published in a Today’s Catholic article. Please send YOUR six-word story in an email addressed to [email protected] with your first and last name, age, and the name of the parish you attend. The subject line of the email should be “Six-Word Story.” No anonymous submissions, please. Submission deadline is November 12. Get creative and happy writing!

Tell us YOUR story! The Seize the Faith Committee is looking for stories to publish in a book that explores your conversion or reversion to the Catholic faith! Please check the saintv.org website to learn more and to get started. Here’s what you need to know:

• All writing levels are welcome (you don’t have to be a master writer)!

• Please submit in a Word document only • Times New Roman, size 12 font, and double-spaced • No more than 5,000 words

We ask that you first send us a short summary of your story (no more than 500 words) before writing your complete story. Please visit saintv.org to submit this summary. Book contributors will be selected from these summary submissions. If there is a large number of submissions, we may be unable to publish every submission we receive. Upon publication, you may choose to remain anonymous. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
