Birth as a human being is the highest among all life forms. Such a life happens only after many other lives due to good deeds done in previous lives. In order to

make the best of this unique opportunity, the gracious and kind Lord has given some guidelines in the form of some ethical and religious edicts and rules. Such religious literature is very significant showing the right way to conduct ourselves, and indicating wrong ways to avoid. One following these rules will make this human life meaningful.

The religious literature is indeed vast and deep. Distilling this vast literature and condensing it into easy steps are Agamas. These Agamas are divided into – shaiva, shakta and Vaishnava traditions. Vaishnava Agamas provide simple steps to follow to achieve significant spiritual progress. These Vaishnavite Agamas are divided into two sections – Vaikhanasa and Pancharatra. Lord Vishnu taught the Agamas to sage Vikhasana, who then imparted that knowledge to his disciples including Atri, Brigu, Mareechi and Kashyapa. This section is called Vaikanasa Agama. Lord Vishnu also directly taught the Agamas during five nights to several of His close devotees including Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Brahma, Vishvaksena and Garuda. The fact that this is directly taught by Lord Vishnu himself is noted in Maha Bharatam. Thus the Pancharatra Agamam is as significant as Bhagavad Geetha, which was also directly taught by Lord Srimannarayana (Vishnu) in

the form of Sri Krishna. It is said that just as Ganga is the most sacred among rivers and Lord Srimannarayana is the highest manifestation of God, Pancharatra Agama is the most important and significant scripture.

Other branches of learning such as Meemamsa (logic), Nyaya (jurisprudence) etc., pale insignificant compared to Pancharatra Agama. The Pancharatra Agama gives details of Swadhyaya (method of learning), Archana (method of worshipping the Lord) etc. Religious practices, methods of worship, and religious festivals are described in simple words to help people to easily follow the Pancharatra Agama sys-tem. Since it is a direct instruction of Lord Srimannarayana, it can be followed by all people irrespective of their social or professional status. Any one following the stipulations of Pancharatra Agama will attain the grace and blessings of Lord Vishnu.
