ADVANCED TECHNOLOGYTo ensure the highest levels of poweravailability, only the most reliable, cuttingedge power components and innovativecontrol technologies have been used in thedevelopment of the MPWand MPXpowermodules and other major aspects of thesystem. The major power componentsand assemblies within the Multi Powerhas been specifically designed and tailormade in conjunction with the respectivecomponent manufacturers. This designwork ensures that the Multi Powerachieves the highest levels of powerand performance. In order to optimisethe overall performance of the finishedproduct, the UPS’R&Dteam made thedecision to specifically design certainpower components, including the IGBTmodules and associated packages. Ratherthan using standard components that arereadily available in the marketplace,Multi Power hosts one single optimisedand reliable power assembly whichguarantees the best availability and overallefficiency. The Power Module itself utilises a“wireless power principle” meaning thatthe power interconnection distancesbetween the cards, power componentsand connectors are shorter. In this waywe reduce any risk related to connectionproblems between the assemblies andalso minimise the overall power losses.

SCALABILITYMulti Power provides a comprehensive, easy to integrate power protectionsolution for data centres and any criticalIT application matching the evolvingdemands of a networked environment. The end user can easily increase power, redundancy level and battery autonomyby simply adding additional UPS PowerModules (PM) and Battery Units (BU).Three different cabinets are available tobuild the system: the Power Cabinets(MPW and MPX type) and the BatteryCabinet (BTC). The Power Cabinets canaccommodate either 15kW (MPX15PM),25kW (MPX25 PM) or 42 kW Power Modules(MPW 42 PM).The available UPSpower and redundancylevel can expand vertically from:• 15to 75 kW in one single Power Cabinet(MPX 130 PWCwith MPX 15PM)

• 25 to 125kW in one single Power Cabinet(MPX130 PWCwith MPX25 PM)

• 42 to 294 kW in one single Power Cabinet(MPW300 PWCwith MPW 42 PM).

Up to four complete Power Cabinets canbe connected in parallel, increasing thecapacity including redundancy respectivelyfrom:• 75 up to 300 kW (with MPX15PM)• 125up to 500 kW (with MPX25 PM)• 294 up to 1176kW (with MPW 42 PM)The Battery Cabinet accommodatesmultiples of 4 Battery Units, with up

to 36 units within a single frame witha maximum of 10Battery Cabinetsconnected in parallel. In addition, Multi Power is available asan optimised solution providing a MULTIPOWER/Battery combination with theCombo Cabinet (MPW and MPX type). This solution can be utilised withinextremely compact areas requiring a smallfootprint with maximum power density. This modular and reliable solution isperfect for any small to medium businessapplications. The user might decide to build the solutionusing the combination of three MPW42 PMand five battery shelves (MPW 130CBC)orfour MPX15PM / MPX25 PM and six batteryshelves (MPX100 CBC) not mingling thetwo power rates in the same cabinet.

OUTSTANDINGPERFORMANCES• The advanced technologies deployedwithin the Multi Power guarantees fullrated power even with unity powerfactor loads (kVA=kW)without any powerdowngrading even when operating attemperatures up to 40°C.

• High system efficiency whilst operatingin ON LINEdouble-conversion modegreater than 96.5%. Even when loaded atonly 20%, the Multi Power still achievesan outstanding performance greaterthan 95%.This superior performance

ensures extremely low losses at anyload level whilst maintaining a truemodular solution for any changing UPSenvironment in terms power demands.

• Low input harmonic pollution, withnear unity input power factor and anextremely wide input voltage operatingrange (+20/-40%), requiring only aminimum upstream power source ratingand subsequent reduced investmentcosts.

MULTIPLE CONTROLSThe entire Multi Power solution wasdeveloped with particular care toensure operational reliability andprevent any possible failures dueto miscommunication between thecomponent parts of the system. The Power Modules are not controlled byone unique microprocessor, but by three -each having different and specific duties.Likewise, the Power Cabinet featurestwo separate microprocessors; one toregulate the overall UPSoperations and aseparate one to manage communicationwith the user. In addition, three dedicatedcommunications bus manage and transmitthe data. In terms of the monitoringand control of the overall system, allmajor components are continuallytemperature monitored within each of thePower Modules. In addition, up to four-temperature sensors are embedded withinthe Power Cabinet to ensure constant andefficient operation. The Power Module is equipped with threespeed controlled fans to ensure there isno energy wasted as the load level appliedto the system increases or decreases. At the same time each fan features aso-called third wire (the controller) whichimmediately warns the microprocessorin the event of a fault; in which case themicroprocessor will increase the speedof the remaining operational fans in orderto compensate for the cooling deficiency. The Battery Unit also contains dedicatedinternal protection and a sophisticatedcontrol system to monitor the status ofeach module. This makes it possible tocheck the voltage/current supplied byeach single battery module and thereforeidentify and warn the user if one of themis defective or beginning to fail. Thissignificantly reduces the risk of a batterypack failure causing a problem to thesystem by immediately warning the userof the impending issue in order for theappropriate preventive actions to be takenbefore it is too late.

FLEXIBLEMODULARITYMulti Power grows both verticallyand horizontally from 1to 20 PowerModules (MPX15PM/MPX 25 PM) or 1to28 Power Modules (MPW42 PM)up to1176kW (including redundancy) as wellas battery units (from 1cabinet, up to10),therefore the system is completelyscalable in accordance with any businessrequirements. The Plug& Play modularconcept simplifies any power or batteryautonomy expansion process, rather thana complete Power Module or Battery unitreplacement. The modular hot-swappable principle isfurther extended to all major elementsof the system, resulting in convenientreplacement of parts such as fans fromwithin individual Power Modules ratherthan accessingmajor components withinthe cabinet. Furthermore, all PowerModules and critical components are

easily accessible from the front of theunit as standard. The system is equippedwith a Manual Bypass change over switchand Back-feed control with a mechanicalinterlock contactor inbuilt, eliminating anymaintenance-related downtime (inbuiltcontactor is optional for MPX130PWCand MPX100 CBC).Combination systems(Combo Cabinet) and Battery Cabinetare supplied with a battery switch andshunt trip to enable remote batteryswitch operation. All these featuresensure easy UPSexpansion, operationand maintenance; minimising downtime, decreasing the Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)and removing any possible risk to powercontinuity, when carried out by authorisedservice personnel. Flexibility is measuredby the ease of both on site installation andthe operations undertaken by the user.Input/Output/battery terminal bars aredeployed enabling authorised installers to

easily terminate the cables either from thetop or the bottom of the system (for MPX130PWC bottom entry only).Mechanical supports and cable glandsas well as the terminal bar positioning (inthe centre of the cabinet) are purposelypositioned to reduce the installationtime and costs. In addition, in termsof flexibility of the battery installation, whether a conventional or modular typesystem is implemented these can bearranged in two different configurations:centralised (common battery) ordistributed (separate battery for eachPower/Combo Cabinet). This will ensurethe highest level of adaptability for anycritical installation and/or economicaldriving factors.

TURNKEY SOLUTIONSUser may deploy Multi Power cabinetslining up four Cabinets one to each otherand arranging locally for input and outputcabling. The UPS offers as an alternative a 500 kVAturn-key solution which consist in twoPower Cabinets (MPW300 PWC)and aSwitching Cabinet to tie up the two. Itincludes AC input/output terminals forsite power distribution connection, relatedjoining flexible bars and communicationlinks between Power Cabinets andSwitching Cabinet. Switching Cabinet isalso supplied with AC input/output/bypasslines breakers as well as with an integralwrap around maintenance bypass. Bypass

line is protected with fuses to grant faultdiscrimination and load protection in caseof short circuit downstream. The breaker set enable to galvanicallyinsulate the single Power Cabinets and tocarry out specific maintenance.Switching Cabinet cable entry is arrangedso that user may decide either to accessfrom the bottom front, rear side or top. This on hand solution simplify theinstallation activity and contribute to theoverall TCOreduction minimising, upfront, installation and operating costs.

ADVANCEDCOMMUNICATIONSUsers can benefit from the differentcommunication systems developedspecifically for IT personnel, facilitiesmanagers and service engineers. The 7” LCD touch screen, communicationslots, relay cards along with the dedicatedservice ports, all ensure that the UPSsetup, control and monitoring is easy. The Multi Power LCDtouch screen hasembedded the follow protocols:• UDP to communicate with our shutdownsoftware PowerShield3

• HTTPand HTTPSto monitor the UPSstatus using a standard web browserwithout any additional software.

• SMTPto send emails related to the UPSstatus, alarms and a power quality dailyand weekly report.

In addition, with the network card NetMan204, Multi Power can be integrated intoany building management system anddata centre infrastructure (CDIM)with theprotocols:• SNMP v1,v2 and v3.• Modbus/TCP.Multi Power is compatible with the verylatest operating systems including• Windows 7, 8, 10• Hyper-V• Windows Server 2019, 2016, 2012,andprevious versions
