Characteristics of FinishCeramic Hybrid Product Bulletin

Ceramic hybrid premium coil coating is based on a unique proprietary resin system. Designed as a premium finish to provide outstanding protection from acid rain and corrosive environments. Ceramic hybrid coatings provide excellent color retention and resistance to chalking and fading for a long lasting finish.

Available in a wide variety of colors, ceramic hybrid incorporates high quality exterior grade and durable, color fast ceramic pigments. An efficient custom color matching process provides quick delivery of special colors to meet customer needs.

Ceramic hybrid is designed for application to hot dipped Galvanized, Zinc-Aluminum Alloy Steel (i.e. Zincalume®, Galvalume®) and Aluminum substrates. Ceramic hybrid is a fully warranted coating system designed to be applied as two-coat primer/finish systems by certified applicators. DC401Y55 primer should be utilized to provide exceptional corrosion protection and is more green friendly.

The special Acrylic resin has improved Newtonian flow. Better rheology results in a smoother finish with all roll coating equipment, which provides more consistent color, hide and film build at high line speeds. Our special base resin resists dirt pick up and has a durable stain, chemical and marr resistant surface.

Ceramic hybrid is formulated with Cool Roof pigmentation to meet high and low slope ENERGY STAR specification and is excellent for many building product end uses such as roofing panels, building panels, soffit, roof profiles and other exterior applications that require a high quality long lasting exterior finish.

Scope of WorkUnited States Seamless® will furnish all labor, materials and necessary equipment to complete the installation of United States Seamless® steel siding and accessories and related work on drawings or specifications contained herein.

MaterialsA. Steel siding and accessories shall be made from a nominal thickness of .0171 primed galvanized lock form quality coated steel complying with ASTM A653. Material is designed for markets requiring roll-form ability and as a result, the steel substrate is a low carbon alloy designed to take a 2T bend radius. Chemical and mechanical properties of the steel are detailed in addendum 1. The ASTM standards have been approved for use by government agencies.

B. Siding panels will contain weep holes spaces approximately every 12 3/4” in the leg of the panel bottom to allow condensation and water vapor to be released from the wall. Nailing hem of the panel shall be approximately 3/4” and contain nailing holes uniformly spaced approximately 1/8” from the edge and approximately 1 1/4” on center to provide for expansion and contraction of siding wall.

C. The coating applied to the substrate shall be a roll-coating paint system designed for use with roll-form machinery. Specific data regarding weatherability and other performance specifications are detailed below.

D. United States Seamless® uses domestic steel sources using a minimum of 70% recycled steel.

The paint system is formulated with a proprietary super durable polyester resin which provides superior resistance to chalking, fading and environmental weathering. Log Siding Backer is manufactured from Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), a common component used in the construction industry. EPS is a rigid closed cell plastic resin made from a petrochemicals derived from crude oil.

Compressive StrengthType 1 EPS has a compressive strength of 10 psi (pounds per square inch), where 10 lbs on one square inch of surface area will result in a 10% deformation of the surface plane.

R-Value At a 75° F test, the Type 1 EPS provides a minimum R-value of 3.60 per inch of thickness.

FlammabilityLike many construction materials, EPS is combustible. It should not be exposed to flame or other ignition sources. All EPS used in the construction industry has a flame retardant that is incorporated into the individual beads during the manufacturing process.

Water Vapor TransmissionType 1 EPS has a perm rating (the measurement of water vapor transmission) of 5.0 perms. EPS is not considered a vapor barrier.

Water AbsorptionIf fully immersed in water, Type 1 EPS will absorb a maximum of 4.0% (by volume). Moisture takes the path of least resistance and travels around individual bead rather than through them; the interconnecting cell structure prevents capillary absorption.

Aluminum is a building product grade, tension leveled coil stock, specifically produced to be roll-formed in a consistent manner. All aluminum used for coating is produced in accordance to the aluminum standards and data 2006 edition. The ASTM standards have been approved for use by government agencies. 16” center vent soffit panels have a minimum calculated ventilated area (NFOA) of 6.60 square inches per lineal foot. 16” full vent soffit panels have a minimum calculated ventilated area (NFOA) of 13.2 square inches per lineal foot.

Characteristics of Platinum Accessories™ Aluminum FinishThe Platinum Accessories™ Aluminum finish applied to the substrate has a dry film thickness of 0.80 - 1.30 mills. Accelerated and physical testing has indicated that this finish meets color, gloss, film thickness, and other specification guidelines as set by the American Society for Testing and Materials, and the National Coil Coaters Association.

Care and Maintenance Instructions

The Platinum Series™, Mountain Cedar®, Northwoods Collection™ and Platinum Accessories™ finish is highly resistant to UV rays and most man-made pollutants. In most cases, normal rainfall is sufficient to keep it clean. But if your product should need cleaning, the following procedures are recommended. Particular attention should be given to areas under eaves, porches, awnings and other overhangs that have limited exposure to the Dark Natural washing effect of rainfall.

1. Moderate atmospheric dirt

An occasional washing with clear water using a garden hose and soft-bristled brush is recommended (a long-handled, car washing brush is ideal for this purpose).

2. Heavy industrial atmospheric dirt

Wash in the manner indicated above, but use the following solution: a. 1/3 cup detergent (Tide®, for example) b. 2/3 cup trisodium phosphate (Soilax®, for example) c. 1 gallon water

3. Mildew accumulation

Mildew can collect on surfaces of all types of building products and is often evident on surfaces that have not been properly cared for and maintained. Normally, mildew will appear as black spots. Mildew is easy to remove by using the basic cleaning solution above with the addition of sodium hypochlorite as follows: a. 1/3 cup detergent (Tide®, for example) b. 2/3 cup trisodium phosphate (Soilax®, for example) c. 1 quart sodium hypochlorite 5% solution (Clorox®, for example) d. 3 quarts water

4. Caulking compounds, tar and similar substances -Use mineral spirits in reasonable amounts and apply directly to the foreign substance. Immediately after cleaning, rinse the area thoroughly with water.

CAUTION: Do not exceed the recommended concentrations of cleaners. To do so can cause damage to the Product’s surface. Avoid skin and eye contact with the solution, and in all cases follow manufacturer’s instructions for the use of cleaning compounds and solutions. Avoid use of abrasive-type cleaners and strong solvents. Test any cleaner on an inconspicuous area before applying to major areas. To minimize streaking, always clean from the bottom to the top and follow with a rinsing of clean water. Excessive scrubbing is unnecessary and can be harmful to the products.

PAINTING: As provided in the warranty, painting will void the warranty unless authorized in writing by United States Seamless®, Inc.

Any minor product adjustments should be discussed with your authorized United States Seamless® franchisee who performed the work. These adjustments can best be made by your authorized United States Seamless® franchisee, since he or she is most familiar with your particular installation.
