It is through Shrine’s challenging and comprehensive curriculum that students develop into independent, self-motivated, socially conscious young adults who are prepared for the next level of higher education as critical thinkers. Our faculty captivate students and impart relevance and relationship to the academic subject using real life experiences and examples.
Following in the footsteps of our patron saint, Saint Therese, Shrine faculty and staff strive to meet the needs of each student while recognizing the infinite possibilities that are born of true faith.
Our extensive high school course offerings include a strong College Prep curriculum as well as Honors and Advance Placement (AP) classes in many of our departments. We challenge each student to succeed and grow throughout life. There are tools that will allow them to achieve through continued higher education as they learn to better serve God and others.

Students can take Intro to Engineering Design I & II and Principals of Engineering I & II. The student who completes the first four semesters is eligible for a dual enrollment opportunity with University of Detroit Mercy, taught on Shrine’s campus.
Academy students can take two curricular STEM classes, Design & Modeling and Robotics & Automation. The addition of our 3D printer has allowed for real world application of projects that students can design and see come to life.
Community PartnershipsShrine is proud to partner with University of Detroit Mercy for dual enrollment opportunities for our students. Current course offerings include Introduction to Engineering, College Introduction to Chinese (Chinese III), taught on our campus, as well as upper level Business courses, taught at the University of Detroit Mercy.

Shrine Catholic High School seniors may enroll in this semester long, innovative educational program. This class is designed to expose students to the expansive health care field.
During their junior year, our students participate in a one-day, on-site job shadow initiative. Over the course of their freshman and sophomore years, students use Naviance college and career planning software identify strengths, interests and talents, which align with potential careers. Each student works individually with the Collegiate Counselor to explore specific career choices for their job shadow placement. This process is invaluable in providing students a real-world experience while helping to identify universities who offer correlating majors/programs. Shrine alumni, current parents, parishioners.

a community Founded in Faith
Shrine Catholic Schools are home to families who care about Catholic Education and recognize the joy and benefit of doing so as part of a community that shares values and traditions. Shrine curriculum offers our students the opportunity to succeed through strong foundations in traditional subjects, enriched by a focus on faith and service.
In keeping with the example of our patroness, Saint Therese, our students participate in annual service as a part of their graduation and confirmation requirements. A minimum of ten hours per year is required for our high school students, though most students far exceed this threshold. Our stu-dents partner with community organizations across Metro Detroit, includ-ing Gleaners Food Bank, Angels’ Place, the Welcome Inn and The Friend-ship Circle, as well as many of their home parishes.
LiturgyStudents attend Mass in the High School and Academy weekly with their classmates where they are actively involved in various liturgical ministries. Students also celebrate several All School Masses at the National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica in conjunction with Grade School students. Our students are also invited to participate in adoration and reconciliation services throughout the year.
RetreatsThe ongoing spiritual growth of each student is a high priority. The retreat program offers a full day retreat for each grade, 7-12, and an optional four-day retreat for juniors and seniors. Kairos is a Christian retreat program, widely used throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit which allows participants to contemplate God’s role in their lives.
Shrine students performed over 46,000 service hours from 2012-2017.
athletics
Athletics are an important part of a student’s school experience, whether as a participant or as a spectator. Through athletics, our students learn the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership and self-esteem.
We are proud of our athletes’ success on the field, but we are even more proud of their ongoing success in the classroom. During the past several years, our teams have earned 14 Catholic League titles, 23 state, district and regional titles, multiple All-State, All-Academic Team awards and five CYO Championships.
We offer a full complement of sports, with more than two-thirds of the student body participating in at least one sport.
The Shrine Knights belong to the Michigan High School Athletic Association, the Catholic High School League and the Catholic Youth Organization.

Fine and PerForming arts
The Fine and Performing Arts departments at Shrine flourish and give students a well-rounded education. Shrine provides a limitless horizon to test creativity.
Visual ArtsFirst-year curriculum provides a foundation in drawing and painting. Advanced Art offers opportunities to develop talent and skills through a variety of media, including electronic. Technique, art history, aesthetics, criticism and production are cultivated to enhance students as complete artists. Portfolio preparation is offered for the serious student who is looking to pursue a career in the visual arts. Our students are consistently challenged to submit their work for consideration to local, regional and national art competitions. Over the past five years, students have been awarded over 200 plus honors for their work.
Performing ArtsOver one-third of our students actively participate in a variety of musical ensembles. For many of our students, the school day doesn’t end at 3 pm because they are involved in additional activities. We encourage each of our students to seek out additional learning experiences outside the classroom. To be involved in extracurricular activities is to be an active part of the student body.
