Shreya Ghoshal has a reputation for re-cording songs in a jiffyeven in an unfamiliarlanguage. But it could take months of waitingto get the busy Bollywood playback singer toa recording studio down south.

And it would be worth the wait: Shreya isnot only a captivating singer but near-perfectin diction whether the song is in Tamil, Teluguor Malayalam.

This singing sensation is well on her wayto achieving something her illustrious prede-cessors failed to doreign the charts acrossregions and languages.

A huge hit in Tamil where she sang underthe baton of maestro A R Rahman in the filmSillinnoru Kadhal, Shreya is currently therage in Kerala with her latest songs in An-war scored by Gopi Sundar.

Though she was introduced by Alphonsein the film Big B and won State Award forBenares Chantu thottille...), it is Qalbi-lethee. of Anwar that has taken her to thetop of the charts.

Rarely do talent, fame and recognition sittogether. But in Shreyas case they seem in-separable. In a dream career, she has alreadybagged four National Awards and three StateAwards. Her fame has also crossed the shoreswith the US State of Ohio even declaring June26 as Shreya Ghoshal Day to honour hercontributions to the music industry.

In an ecstatic response Shreya tweeted:Its an honour which has been given topersonalities, artists n litterateurs since manyyears. I was informed that Tagore, SwamiVivekananda were the recipients...My namewent into the same archives. Unimaginable!!

moved to Mumbai to try her luck as a singer. It was filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali who

first noticed her talent on a show and prompt-ly commissioned her for his Devadas projectas the voice of Paro in the tragic love story.Shreya later remarked that to bring pain, pathos and innocence into her modulation sheimagined herself to be Paro.

Shreya attaches great importance to voicemodulationto suit not the actor but thecharacter. This is best illustrated by the au-thentic feel she imparts to the characters inDevadas and Guru.

Malayalam music director Veetrag, who hasassigned Shreya for a song in the upcomingKamal film Gaddama, finds her quick onthe uptake: Shreya deals out a near-perfectMalayalam diction and a magical feel. Hergrasping power is unbelievable and her sing-ing style unique.

Shreya can not only adapt to situations onthe screen but is highly receptive to audi-ences during stage shows. One recalls a stageshow hosted in Chennai a couple of years agoin honour of music maestro Ilayaraja whereShreya, who was yet become established, sang along with the likes of Hariharan, S PBalasubrahmaniam and Ilayaraja himself.

As she rendered the song Naan thedumjamanthi poovithu she quickly realised fromthe audience reactions that she had made aminor mistake and immediately sang the cor-rect version.

Later, Ilayaraja came up to the microphoneand complimented her: She realised hermistake and was quick to correct it the nexttime. The quality any singer should have.

marked Mixed, which, being wrongly labelled, is

sure to contain either gold(only) or silver (only) coins. If you picked a gold coin, then of course it is the realGold box. If so, the boxlabelled Silver is actuallythe Mixed one, and the onemarked Gold is all silver. Incase you picked silver, youcan work out the boxes simi-larly.
