1. Executive Summary The existing lease area of Black Trap Quarry of Shree Mukesh Quarry Works (Survey No. 148/1 PAIKY ) is located near village: Varasada, Taluka: Savli, District: Vadodara of Gujarat state. The lease had been granted by district office order no. GV/QL/2406 dated 26.08.1991 for 10 years. The lease area (1-00-00 Ha) comprises Govt waste Land type. This is an existing quarry which is worked upon by Open Cast semi-mechanized method. The present rate of production is 27000 MTPA, whereas the proposed rate of production is 27000 MT/ Year. The estimated project cost is Rs. 1,70,00,000. The expected life of mine is 15.1 Years. Basalt (Black Trap) deposits are source for demand in construction work in all sectors. Varasada basalt deposits are huge source for demand in construction work in Vadodara and surrounding districts. Shree Mukesh Quarry Works is experienced in Black Trap mining and involved in the quarry operation since 2009. As per the statutory obligation this project needs Environment Clearance (E.C.) from department of Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), Gujarat for grant of lease and to start quarry operations. Thus accordingly project proponent has submitted Form-1, PFR, and copy of approval letter from department of mines and Geology Gujarat to the state level environmental assessment authority (SEIAA) of Gujarat constituted by MOEF, GOI for issuing environmental clearance as per EIA, September 14th 2006 notification.
2. Introduction of the Project/ Background Information 2.1 Identification of Project and Project Proponent:
The existing lease area of Black Trap Quarry of Shree Mukesh Quarry Works (Survey No. The project was identified by the Department of Mines and Geology of Gujarat during exploration. Shree Mukesh Quarry Works is experienced in Black Trap mining and involved in the quarry operation since 2009.
2.2 Brief description of nature of the project:
This is an existing Black Trap mining project. As per EIA Notification dated 14th Sep, 2006 and as amended till date, the project falls under, Category “B2” by considering the area of project is 1-00-00 Ha only. A location map of the project is shown in the next section. It has been proposed to excavate approximately 27000 MTPA of Black Trap mineral from the S. No. 148/1 PAIKY by open - cast semi mechanized method. The lease area is 1-00-00 ha. Total geological reserves are 671274 MT. The expected

4 34
life of mine will be 15.1 years. The mineral Black Trap will be transported by hired trucks.
At the end of lease period, the total excavated area will be .850 ha. The entire
excavated area will be used as a water reservoir. Water reservoir will ultimately help
in recharging the water table and also help in cultivation and irrigation purpose for
nearby area. Water requirement of 6.0 KLD for the proposed project activity will be
met by water tankers supply from nearby village source. The depth of water table is
80 m (Pre-Monsoon) to 70 m (Post-Monsoon) below the general ground level. Thus,
water table will not encounter during working of the mine.
2.3 Need of the Project and It’s Importance to the Country/ Region
Black Trap is base of all types of Building works, Construction of Road, Construction of Cement Concrete road, The need of Stone in all fields are very essential as it is a compulsory material for all types of construction, and Industries fields. Stone Mines are providing employments to the local Labour in Rural area, as the labour of rural area have no any work for labour, They are Unemployed, Thus this existing mine is providing work to many labours and it is a good employment. The Black Trap is treated as minor minerals. The operations of the quarries include blasting.
2.4 Demand – Supply Gap Black Trap is one of the important component in infrastructural development in
building construction projects in flooring & wall furnishing as well as construction
of monuments, temples mosques etc. It has high demand in the market due to
increased domestic, industrial and other infrastructural activities.
2.5 Imports Vs Indigenous Production In the current market scenario, import of Black Trap is not envisaged, it is for indigenous use only.
2.6 Export Possibility Not applicable as proposed mine is for domestic use.
2.7 Domestic/ Export Markets Domestic demand is one of the main reason for the rapid growth of Black Trap business in India. Thus, domestic market for Black Trap as road material is well established. Black Trap produced from the proposed quarry will be used to fulfill the domestic demand. No export is proposed at this stage
2.8 Employment Generation (Direct and Indirect) due to the Project
Direct Employment: Manager:- 01 Mine Workers:- 10 Indirect Employment:
Applicant: Shri Mukesh Quarry Works Mineral: Black Trap Lease Area (Ha): 1-00-00

3.4 Size of magnitude of Operation:
The quarry area of existing Black Trap mine is 1-00-00 hectare and proposed production capacity is 27000 MTPA.
3.4.1 Regional Geology: Regionally the Alluvium, Deccan Trap, Cretaceous rocks and Precambrian rocks are exposed in the region. The alluvial are Cambay basin deposits of recent age. Deccan Trap is thick lava flows which overlie the cretaceous sedimentary rocks. Cretaceous sedimentary rocks mainly sand stone, shale and conglomerate are found in the region. The Precambrian rocks of Granitic intrusions are found: Regional Geology:-
Alluvium Deccan Lava flows
Cretaceous sedimentary rocks Precambrian Granitic intrusions
3.4.2 Local Geology:
Geologically the area comprises of Deccan traps. Deccan traps are found upto depth of 170 meters depths from the drilling of local tube wells. Intertrappean sedimentary bends are found at places.
3.5 Project description with Process detail: The mine will be worked by means of opencast semi-mechanized method which includes drilling, blasting, loading and transportation. 3.5.1 Open Cast Mining:
The proposed operations will be carried out by open cast semi-mechanized method.
The salient features of proposed mining method are:- The excavation will be carried out by blasting, loading and transportation. The proposed bench height will be kept up to the depth of the mine. Vertical
face will be developed as the rock is very compact. The ultimate pit slope will be maintained as per IBM safety regulations. Percussion drills will be used in combination with diesel operated
compressor. The diameter of the drill will be 32 mm. The depth of hole will be around 1.5 m.
Haul roads will be made at 1 in 16 gradient for connecting workings, stack and linking the nearest road.
Loading of mineral is proposed manually or by excavators on dumpers. Controlled blasting will be done by using explosives, boosters, detonators and
fuse.
Applicant: Shri Mukesh Quarry Works Mineral: Black Trap Lease Area (Ha): 1-00-00
8 34
Optimum quantity of explosives will be used per hole to prevent overcharging, which will result in flying fragment and under charging to prevent formation of large boulders.
Non-el initiation system of blasting will be used for minimizing ground vibrations.
