Progress for Rotary's US$200 Million Challenge for polio eradication

Rotary International News -- 7 December 2010

As of 30 November, Rotarians and Rotaractors have raised about $155.3

million for Rotary's US$200 Million Challenge. These contributions will help

Rotary raise $200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received

from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $555 million will

directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries, where polio

continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and

compounding the hardships faced by their families.

As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, children

everywhere remain at risk. The stakes are that high.

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL NEWS

Celebrating the Family of Rotary

Rotary International News -- 7 December 2010

You can see it in their faces. The joy that spills forth as Rotarians take part in service projects, locally or internationally, says volumes about why

more than 1.2 million people around the globe belong to Rotary clubs and are committed to making the world a better place.

Throughout the year, Rotarians have and continue to share pictures of their Rotary experience on our Family of Rotary group pool on Flickr. The above photo gallery is a sample of the more than 500 photos (and counting) that have been added to our Flickr group. See the whole collection on the Your photos page, or upload a photo of your own.

Family Month celebrates the family of Rotary, which, in addition to individual Rotarians, includes all of those who are involved in Rotary's work from Rotary Foundation program alumni to participants in Rotary youth programs in thousands of communities around the world.

Spouses and children of Rotarians play a vital role in Rotary too. Rotary clubs benefit immensely when they strive to achieve a balanced interaction between Rotarians and their families, enhancing home lives and family interactions.

Page 13

Page 14: Showcase november 2010

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30. Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and they’re sponsored by a local Rotary club. This makes them true "partners in service" and key members of the family of Rotary. Through the Rotaract program, young adults not only augment their knowledge and skills, but they also address the physical and social needs of their communities while promoting international understanding and peace through a framework of friendship and service.
