What is On-Line Patches
• 12.2.x includes architectural change to support the ability to install patches on-line ( without need for down time )
• On-line patches is mandatory. Once you upgrade to 12.2.x all patches will be installed in on-line mode
• All customizations must be compliant with OLP compatibility standards.
• Non-compliant customizations introduce risk of real-time execution error after any patch is applied

Referenced Impacted Objects
Oracle readiness reports will identify changes you must make in custom data objects (views, tables, synonyms)
●Once you fix these these data objects, there could be impact to custom code that references those data objects

What To Test
• Do you prioritize a test plan based on impacted objects, or, test everything?
• Should we rely on, or trust, the subject matter experts in the respective business units to properly test all business process flows from end-to-end?
• Do I have previously developed test scripts to adequately address ALL required test scenarios?
• How do you ensure all scripts are, and remain, updated?
• Is it possible to manage where the “baton” even is throughout complicated test processes?

Project Management
● How do I prioritize our effort to only focus on objects that are impacted and used?
● How do I focus my development team to only address the objects that will definitely break and are directly impacted by change?
● How do I monitor who is doing what, when and to what area throughout the process?
● How can I be certain to knowing exactly where we are to meeting “go-live” commitments and actually being on time? 70% of the market misses
● If I can’t measure a project – how can I manage it?

Advice
● Analyze every project before it begins
● Analyze often to get an accurate estimate of the number of customizations left to be fixed and what remains to be tested
● Develop a test management strategy that includes:
• Detailed test scripts that evolve as your business and ERP environment
evolves
• Ability to manage complicated test cycles involving multiple testers
(sometimes in different departments – overseas?)
• Compliance with auditing regulations i.e. SOX, HIPAA etc.
