Purpose of Proposal

Your purpose in submitting a proposal is to haveyour plan for solving a problem accepted and, inmany cases, funded.

You frequently need to convince a funder orcustomer that you or your company has the bestplan and is best qualified than others to solve aparticular problem. To do this you must develop aclear understanding of the needs or intentions of thefunder/customer.

Begin by studying the RFP, the explicit and implicitspecifications/expectations, and any other materialyou can gather to help you articulate the problemfrom the funder /customers point of view.

Solicited Proposal:A solicited letter is written when a former employer,

professor or person you've had a business relationshipwith is asked by you if they will write you a letter of

reference sometime in the future.Unsolicited Proposal:An unsolicited letter of reference is a letter of reference

that tends to be seen as quite unbelievable. Peoplearrive at a job with a letter in hand that they may have

written themselves and it is such a glowing tribute totheir work ethic and persistence in the face ofinsurmountable obstacles that you're unable to ascertainif you're not in the presence of the messiah.
