This is coupled with the recent call for the public to spend their cash in order to help business and jobs. Throughout lockdown reports show that people saved money on normal expenditure such as petrol, meals out, entertainment and holidays. We asked our Northern Ireland online community about their thoughts on shopping in light of restrictions easing. Here’s a snapshot of what they told us… What? May 2020 Inform shoppers that you’ve opened, or if you’re offering a sale Reassure customers with the safety measures in place for when they shop with you Connect with your old and new customers with a friendly “hello” or “welcome back” Engage customers who have saved in lockdown and are ready to treat themselves Provide a much needed distraction and escapism as a result of ‘COVID fatigue’ 26% couldn’t wait to go shopping on the high street once restrictions were lifted, whilst 28% couldn’t wait to hit the mall for some retail therapy. 15% have actually shopped less online during lockdown than before it. think ”physical shops will increase in popularity after lockdown as people realise they have taken them for granted and want the experience of shopping again” versus those who think “shopping habits will be changed permanently by people continuing to shop online”. Said they feel comfortable going shopping for non-food items in malls and high streets. Over 6in10 More people
