MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTORDear Friends,

At Shooting Touch, we believe whole-heartedly that the team sport of basketball

can increase access to health education and social development opportunity for

youth in under-resourced areas of the world.

Since our inception in 2007, Shooting Touch, Inc. has grown from a local Boston

basketball program to an international NGO with work on three continents and 7

countries - positively impacting over 3,500 youths globally each year.

Whether our teams are working on building programming in inner city Boston or the

highlands of eastern Rwanda, the common thread that ties us all together is that

every child deserves the right to have access to the sport of basketball and the life

lessons it provides.

2014 has been an exciting year for Shooting Touch and we look forward to more

milestones in 2015! It is a privilege and joy working with Shooting Touch families

and children near and far. I sincerely thank our volunteers, staff, and donors for

their contributions to the progress we have made.

I encourage you to renew your support and welcome you to continue this amazingly

rewarding ride with us. It is working and we are only just beginning!

Sincerely,

Lindsey Kittredge

Executive Director, Shooting Touch, Inc.

OUR MISSION

Since our inception in 2007, Shooting

Touch, Inc. has grown from a local Boston

basketball program to an international

With headquarters in Boston, MA,

Shooting Touch operates in two

realms – Boston and International.

Shooting Touch Boston and Shooting

Touch International (currently based

in Rwanda) provide thousands of young

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

BOSTON

• To run events to give access to basketball

programming for youth

• To develop a first–of its–kind basketball

based youth development program for

under resourced middle school youth.

Each and every Shooting Touch event shares a

core focus: to provide Boston area youth and

young professionals with highly organized and

unparalleled opportunities to further develop

the on-court and off-court skills. Participants

leave our events not just better basketball

players but with a greater capacity for being

a leader and role model in their community,

understanding team work, and making health-

seeking choices.

the sports industry.

BASKETBALL YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMission #2: Combatting the decrease in basketball on and off court programming for Boston’s middle school youth.

While basketball is the most popular sport

in Boston, a basketball youth development

program in the city does not exist. The rise

of AAU basketball, combined with the lack

of infrastructure within the Boston Public

School system to coordinate basketball

programs, youths from under-resourced areas

of Boston are not getting access to basketball

programming, especially at the middle school

level. To combat this, Shooting Touch plans

to launch a pilot program, which provides

on–court basketball skill development as

well as off–court life lessons in leadership,

academic performance and community service

opportunities to middle school boys and girls.

BOSTON PILOT PROGRAM

(Project launch September 2014)

In collaboration with the Boston Centers for

Youth and Families (BCYF) and the Boston

Neighborhood Basketball League (BNBL)

participation rates in sports.

RWANDASince 2012, Shooting Touch has operated exclusively in Rwanda and has provided opportunities for 10,000 Rwandan youth to play, learn, and grow through the game of basketball.

In Rwanda, access to vital public health

information is, at times, hard to come

by. Access to clean drinking water and

information about easily preventable

diseases and risky behaviors is limited due to

a lack of a platform to connect at-risk youths

to public health service providers.

Shooting Touch Rwanda, a locally registered

NGO, acts as a host organization for our

Basketball Service Fellows. Gifted and

passionate university graduates are granted

the fellowship after

undergoing a rigorous application process.

Once granted the fellowship, they serve a

year-long term, where they are in a position

of organizational leadership and service.

In tandem with our In-Country Program

Director, our Fellows work to mobilize

athletes and coaches, granting them access

to targeted health trainings and exposure to

social advocacy campaigns.

WHERE WE ARE TODAY

RWANDACOURT BUILDING AND REFURBISHMENT

New courts employ community members

and give the community a sense of

ownership over the court. Refurbishing

courts increases access to basketball in

communities where courts are unsafe or

unplayable.

COACH AND TEAM CAPTAIN TRAININGS

Facilitated by our Fellows on the ground,

trainings equip the next generation of

athletes with a toolkit that prioritizes

physical and mental wellbeing through

accessing basic services and education.

BUILDING A NATIONAL BASKETBALL

LEAGUE

The formation of 2 girls and 2 boys teams

per site are the first steps toward creating

a nation-wide youth league. Consistent

on–and off–court practices give young

athletes a sense of work ethic and

dedication to something bigger than

themselves.

PARTNERSHIPS

Public and private partnerships—Local

administrations, international health

agencies, local health facilities, public

and private schools, gender organizations

support our mission and broaden our reach.

HOSTING EVENTS

Tournaments bring together teams from

Shooting Touch sites all over Rwanda,

while court rehabilitation projects bring

communities together. Events also serve

as a platform for public health officials and

organizations to provide information.
