Tasks in Stage 5 (Year 9-10) are designed to cover syllabus outcomes in the following areas:

Expressing views

There are four assessment tasks (three of which include a classwork

component) assessing the following outcomes:

A1: Film Analysis Essay & Listening Task (EN5-2A, EN5-3B, EN5-4B, EN5-5C, EN5-8D, EN5-9E)

A2: Research Presentation (EN5-2A, EN5-3B, EN5-4B, EN5-7D, EN5-8D, EN5-9E)

A3: Examination (EN5-1A, EN5-2A, EN5-3B, EN5-4B, EN5-6C, EN5-7D)

A4: Feature Article (EN5-1A, EN5-2A, EN5-3B, EN5-5C, EN5-7D)

Important information

All assessment tasks must be completed on or before the due date and students must sign

the assessment task submission sheet when handing in their work. Late submissions will be

subject to a 10% deduction per school day for five (5) days. Tasks submitted later than five

days after the due date will receive a mark of zero (0). To be eligible for the Record of School

Achievement (RoSA), all assessment tasks must be completed and handed in for marking

and must be the original work of the student.

In the case of an event which stops a student submitting the task on time, the student

should speak to their Deputy and complete a special circumstances form supported by

relevant documentation.

Student performance in assessment tasks, including assessable classwork, will be used to

determine grades for the Record of School Achievement (RoSA). Official “N” determination

warning letters will be issued where tasks are not submitted, work is judged to be a non-

serious attempt at a task, or work is found to be plagiarised.

ENGLISH FACULTY

YEAR 10 ASSESSMENT SCHEDULE 2020

FILM ANALYSIS ESSAY AND LISTENING TASK: Weighting: 20%

Part A: Students are required to write an essay based on a film study conducted in class.

Part B: Students will complete a short listening task based on an interview with a filmmaker.

Classwork component: Weighting: 5%

Learning activities in the classroom, homework, and in-class test/quiz results will form the basis for assessment of this component.

RESEARCH PRESENTATION: Weighting: 25%

Students are required to complete a Research Presentation based on the topic studied in class. Students will create a folder of research material and produce a multimodal Visual Representation (VR). At least one mode must be speaking.

Classwork component: Weighting: 5%

Learning activities in the classroom, homework, and in-class test/quiz results will form the basis for assessment of this component.

EXAMINATION: Weighting: 20%

Students are required to sit an internal examination set by the English Faculty. The date of the examination will be notified at least two weeks before the examination period.

FEATURE ARTICLE: Weighting: 20%

Students are required to compose a feature article on the topic studied in class. The feature article should be published in a magazine format.

Classwork component: Weighting: 5%

Learning activities in the classroom, homework, and in-class test/quiz results will form the basis for assessment of this component.

A NOTE ABOUT AMOW: ALL MY OWN WORK Students must complete the AMOW modules and associated quiz components in order to be eligible for their Year 11 RoSA. The AMOW program is completed during the Term 2 Research unit. Students will be required to achieve a specified percentage in each module quiz in order to pass the program. In Year 10 you will be assessed in two ways.

1. Ongoing assessment of class work: This will consist of assessing day-to-day class work, practical work, homework, assignments, bookwork and computer based activities. Each term you receive a ‘class mark’ which will contribute to your report grade and your ROSA grade. Failure to complete tasks and meet minimum standards may result in an ‘N’ determination for this course. You may be given booklets and worksheets for each topic. Keep these in a clip folder or plastic envelope. Together with your book they form part of your ongoing assessment

2. Formal assessment tasks: Each term you will have a formal assessment task which will assess the knowledge, skills and processes developed in class. Formal assessment tasks will contribute to your report grade and your RoSA grade. Failure to complete tasks and meet minimum standards may result in an ‘N’ determination for this course.
