President’s Report

In my third year as President and I have enjoyed witnessing the remarkable effort that everyone has contributed.

I would like to make special mention of our patrolling members, parents and guardians our nippers, opens and masters for their commitment to the club and surf lifesaving in general. I would also like to acknowledge the parents and friends of our club for your engagement and challenge over the season. Without challenging norms and innovation, we cannot look to improve. I would like to personally thank every committee member (JAC and Senior) who gave up countless hours over the season. Our combined efforts is what makes our club great.

Our first priority at Shelly Beach is Surf Life Saving and supporting the wider community. Our dedicated patrolling members volunteered a total of 6247 hours spread out over weekends and public holidays from September through to the April. We had over 41,000 visitors to our beach where we managed 48 rescues, many more preventatives with no drownings.

Shelly Beach has continued its leadership in education. We achieved 22 x Advanced Resuscitation Technique (AID), 27 x Bronze, 21 x IRB Crew, 14 x Radio Operators, 4 x First Aids, 1 x RWC, 2 x Silver Advanced First Aid, 9 x Silver Beach Management, 3 x Silver Aquatic Rescue, 10 x IRB Drivers, 14 x SRC, 5 x Spinal, 1 x Advanced Resus Trainer and Assessor, 1 x IRB Trainer officer and 1 x Bronze Assessor. 136 Awards!!!

We had a very strong competitive season. We had representation across all carnivals and were awarded medals in Pool Rescue, Branch, State, State Surfing, Aussies, Worlds and State Pool Rescue. I would like to thank our group of coaches who dedicate their time and effort.

Through the dedication and hard work of you all...

• We filled all committee positions (Junior and Senior).

• We reengaged our Life Members by hosting atargeted Life Member session.

• We achieved our greatest competition results in thehistory of the club! (Branch, State, Aussies and Worlds).

• We embedded a training scheme that caters for allskill levels across water and sand.

• We delivered our 2013/2018 Strategic Plan

• We held a Strategy Day which provided focus areasover the next 2 seasons aligned to both State andBranch Strategic Areas.

• We increased our nipper registrations this season.

• We raised over $5,000 in car park collections.

• We continued our Gold Quality Club Awardprogram internally.

• We increased our member numbers in both Associateand Active.

• We introduced an Adult SRC to streamline theprocess of water safety through to patrolling members.

• We continued our junior surf matt initiative that makesthe transition to the board in the U9 easier. We haveproven that the initiative is bring a higher percentageof kids up to the U9 which is usually the first agegroup to lose numbers.

• We engaged with other clubs by sharing informationand ideas on how we can improve as a club and a branch.

This has been a rewarding season for me personally and I look forward to the season ahead.

Secretary’s Report

2018-2019 has been a year of great achievement for Shelly Beach Surf

Life Saving Club (SBSLSC) in education, competition, coaching, training,

nippers and lifesaving.

Whilst the Quality Program has not been followed up this season

SBSLSC still followed these guidelines internally as this made

compliance much easier to map and follow up as this is necessary for

funding, grants and safety of every member and of course the wider

community that SBSLSC serves.

This season saw the advent of Active Kid rebate by NSW Government

and there were some members that took advantage of this funding and

more importantly the Government will run this again next season for

junior members. SBSLC also became a SLS Safeguarding champion

with the introduction of a new program 'Safeguarding our Children and

Young People, this program now instilled going forward as this is very

important part of life, community and society.

Congratulations to Don van Keimpema on his OAM, Keisha McJannet

on the inaugural Kevin Stanford award, Bronwyn McKirdy on her life

membership , Paul Dowdell for SLSCC Streets Rescue of the Year,

Leisa Griffin for SLSCC Administrator of the Year and all SBSLSC

patrolling members achieving 3rd place in SLSCC Patrol Competition.

SBSLSC continues to excel in education, patrolling, management,

competition and initiatives that set them apart.

Thanks to everyone that has been a part of this great season, every

hand helps.

JAC Chairperson’s Report

The 2018-2019 Shelly Beach Surf Club Nippers Program was again

a successful and rewarding season. Some particular highlights of the

season have been increased Nipper registration numbers, increased

water safety and help from parents, review of our training program and

success in competition and most of all participation and enjoyment of

our Nippers.

We maintained the staggered start times which improved ratios of water

safety and resulted in trouble free Sunday mornings. Our Club Champ

Day was run without hinderance of weather conditions this year, which

was a relief for the Junior Committee, parents and Nippers. Carnival

participation from new and existing families was fantastic with some

excellent results in both sand and water events. From all reports our

competitors approached the carnivals with great sportsmanship and a

positive attitude which led to great results and personal achievements.

The Nippers season could not have been possible without the assistance

and dedication of our Age Managers for this season, who provided such

valuable support for our Nippers every Sunday morning by guiding their

age group in the first steps of the art of Surf Life Saving. They have

provided our children with a skill set and confidence that will form a basis

for years to come and if they choose to stay with Surf Life Saving they

have had a great starting point.

Our water safety volunteers and IRB drivers/crew have again played an

integral part of the season ensuring our kids were safe and secure in

the water every Sunday. Thanks to all returning and new water safety.

The increase in assistance of water safety was due to the commitment

of our Training Team and parents realising the importance of looking

after our children on and off the beach. Seeing the Cadets and other

Junior Lifesavers pass on their skills to our Nippers was fantastic. We

acknowledge their contribution as role models for our Nippers. Their

dedication to the club is much appreciated.

The Junior Committee enlisted the expertise of Michael Hyslop Junior

DSS (Director of Surf Sports) to implement a revised training structure.

The aim has been to implement a combined training element to create a

'One Club' environment with our coaches and Nippers both on sand and

in the water with the help of senior competitors. This training schedule

continues as an ongoing development strategy that will evolve and form

a framework for years to come to maintain consistency and give our

Nippers the best possible chance to learn and excel.

On a finishing note, I would like to thank all the committee members,

Age Managers, our coaches, officials, water safety and parents

for their dedication and hard work on Sundays and behind the

scenes to be able to make the Nippers Program a success. I

would love to thank most importantly our Nippers for a great and

rewarding season that I’m sure we can recreate for 2019-2020.

Well done!!

Brad Glover Junior Activities Chairperson.

Congratulations patrolling Members of Shelly Beach SLSC.

Another successful season comes to a close, what a fantastic

season 2018/2019 was! Over the patrolling season we had over

63,000 visitors to our beach, saved 48 lives, completed over

717 preventive actions, provided 35 first aid treatments and our

128 patrolling members volunteered an astonishing 6,247 hours.

Most importantly, 0 costal drownings at our beach this year,

again.

This season our Patrol Captains, Patrol Vice Captains and along with the

newly created patrol position of PAC (Patrol App Captain), took charge

of the data that is entered into SLS's data base, Surf Guard, by way of

an application downloaded onto their personal device and or the clubs

tablet. Some of these members mentioned are by no way IT experts,

myself included, however, I can confirm the Shelly Beach Lifesavers took

to this new data entry system with gusto and, after some teething issues,

adopted the new technology so that our submission rates we were

amounts the highest on the coast. Let's keep the momentum going for

the 2019/2020 season so that were at the fore front of this technology.

Detail and accuracy are the key drivers to be No: 1 in this space.

The contributions made to our club by our Training Team cannot be

under stated. Paul Dowdell is at the head of machine that continues to

grow when measured against the quality lifesaver that continue to enter

our ranks. Not only is this team training Bronze and SRC awards they are

also training IRB Driver, IRB Crew Person’s and Advanced Resuscitation

Techniques (ART). Importantly, for the first time in a number of years,

all of these awards are being assessed by Shelly Beach assessors. A

massive achievement considering just a few short season ago we had

1 trainer and called upon our fellow Clubs for assessors, mentors and

the like.

Going forward I'm sure this team will on grow so that Shelly Beach SLSC

will a power house in relation to training awards amongst the Central

Coast Clubs.

Congratulations to all of our perpetual award winners from Senior

Presentations held recently.

Special mention to Gary Baker, Club Person of the Year, Janine Shearer,

Patrol Person of the Year and Patrol 7, Patrol of the Year.

Thank You Gary and Janine your efforts are remarkable and astonishing.

You are both massive assets to our club and, I'm sure I'm speaking for

everyone when I say this; we are really happy and proud to have you as

Shelly Beach SLSC members.

To the members of Patrol 7 who are led by Jon Harkness, you guys

killed it this season, you smash everything you did in relation to Surf

Lifesaving. You won our internal point score, convincingly I will add, 8 of

your 10 members achieved 100% rostered patrol, a record that will be

hard to beat. Your beach set up on each and every patrol was near on

perfect. The other 9 patrols and all of Shelly Beach members, active or

otherwise, can look up to you guys in wonder. When you see Jon and

his team on the beach next season, be assured, you'll be in safe hands.

Congratulation for your Patrol of the Year award.

Extra Special mention to Keisha McJannet, who has won the inaugural

and extremely prestigious Kevin Stanford Award, for her 5 awards gained

throughout the season. Keisha achieved 100% patrol, is Patrol 10's PAC

and is only, at the time of writing this, 17 years young. Keisha as a young

person has proven time and time again what a responsible, reliable

forward thinking teenager she is. I'm proud to be her Patrol Captain, an

award Keisha holds now (did someone mention succession planning).

Keisha is also a formidable competitor, particularly on the Ski, that said,

she does excel in all water events. All members of Shelly Beach SLSC

can be rightly proud of Keisha.

To our Patrol Captains and their teams of talented Lifesavers, a massive

thank you from your club for your efforts in keeping our beach fatality free

for another season.

Let's keep that momentum going for the 2019/2020 season.

Recharge your batteries and enjoy your off season.

See you next season at our wonderful beach.

Best Regards

Chief Training Officer’s Report

The Shelly Beach education team has had another big season in 2018/19,

resulting in over 130 senior awards gained by its members, 100 0f these

awards were trained at Shelly Beach itself. We have also improved our

capabilities to train and assess courses within the club by adding another

Training officer in IRB, as well as Assessor Advanced Resuscitation, and

Assessor Bronze Medallion. With Ramzy Fawzy joining the Club (dual

membership) we now have a facilitator, and mentor for new trainers in

every course that can be delivered at club level.

Two of our education team have also recently completed the upgrades

required to the Assessor certificate and Cert IV Training and Assessing,

which keeps the club not only able to operate autonomously, but to lend

assistance to other clubs, once the planned changes to federal legislation

regarding Registered Training Organisations comes into effect.

The 2018 / 2019 education team were as follows

Paul Dowdell, Shaun Gersch, Steve Lee, Gary Baker, Ramzy Fawzy,

A great year for IRB.

THE YEAR IN GENERALBefore the year had commenced Shelly Beach Surf Lifesaving Club

(SBSLSC) had received a new motor from Surf Life Saving Central Coast,

which was greatly appreciated. Motor 6 was run in and was ready for

back up this season, giving the club more motors to be present with on

the beach.

Repairs were ongoing on a weekly basis and luckily there were no major

issues with both motors and hulls.

It was great to see so many new faces attending the IRB crew and drivers

courses this season, with 2 new drivers and 21 new crew members

and some still pending that will show in the next season awards.

This will certainly make life much easier as IRB's are integral in rescues

and call outs.

TRAININGOur training courses ran till June this season and it was good to see

some ladies attempting the driver's course and attaining

their awards. Special thanks to Gary Baker and Paul Dowdell for

training these courses and Craig Goy for being the content expert.

SBSLSC had several new trainers gain their training awards this season

and this is reflected in the increase in IRB awards this season.

MAINTENANCEMaintenance remains a huge part of being on the beach.

Sandy carburettors were the biggest problem for motors and the hulls

had the occasional leak there was a new floor mat replaced this season.

Many thanks to all the members who have helped throughout the season,

this made the workload a lot easier.

Thank you to all the IRB drivers and crew for their commitment,

support and efforts over the 2018-2019 season. SBSLSC looks

forward to a strong IRB presence on the beach next season.

Cheers

SURF SPORTS SEASON 2018/19The past 12 months for Shelly Beach SLSC have seen a tremendous

success for individuals and as a surf sports team. Shelly Beach was

represented at Pool Rescue, Surf Lifesaving and International Lifesaving

championships gaining medals in both the Masters and Open categories.

Tom Simpson- Pool Rescue and Surf races, Alex Chaffer- Board Race,

Bryn Gaha- Board and Surf races, Daniel Kingsley and Matt Zalbergs-

Masters Surf race and Jazzymn Fillingham - Ironwomen and Ski. Shelly

Beach has also been represented in numerous Branch and State

representative teams by James Koch and Tom Simpson.

Shelly Beach's Pool Rescue Season saw strong results in both the

Masters, Opens and Youth divisions. The success of the team was

contributed greatly with an expansion to two sessions a week to cater

for additional competitors attending the sessions. A huge thank you to

the coaches Tom Simpson and Don van Keimpema and athlete leaders

James Koch and Blake Hessel for their time and effort in training the

team.

At State Pool Rescue Championships held in July the Open Team came

2nd overall on 151pts and the Masters 5th on 54pts in the Masters

competition. Stand out performances by James Koch and Tom Simpson

earnt them a spot on the NSW Pool Rescue Team which was coached by

Don van Keimpema. This is a huge club achievement with 3 members

representing NSW in one team.

At the National Pool Rescue Championships held in August both James

Koch and Tom Simpson competed for Shelly Beach SLSC and NSW in

the interstate competition held at the same time. Both athletes performed

incredibly well with James Koch winning two bronze medals in the u/19

100m Rescue Medley, whilst Tom Simpson won a silver in the Open

100m Rescue Medley.

The summer season began in October with a strong winter training

program which saw our athletes excel early in the season. Shelly

Beach competed at the 1st round of Ocean 6 Series where 6 athletes

participated. For 3 of our athletes this was the first time racing in the

Open division. At the end of the day James Koch posted a 5th place in

the Open Surf Race final and Tom Simpson made the Open Ski Final for

the 1st time.

At the interbranch selection carnival we had a record number of

attendances in the seniors which included 6 Open competitors. From

this carnival the Central Coast Interbranch team was selected. Shelly

Beach gained 2 spots in the team with Jack Merriman in the U17's and

James Koch in the Opens.

The Sydney Water Series held on the South Coast saw a record number

of athletes from Shelly Beach attend. This carnival allows our athletes to

practice racing in competitive environment and it becomes a fun day out

with the team as you are out for most of the day. At the end of the four

rounds Bryn Gaha was the U17 Surf Race Champion, Tom Lennox the

Firstly we would like to thank all our Under 6 age group for joining in and

having a good crack each week; the first year of Nippers is a big one.

We started out learning some of the skills that will be used in the

years to come then after Christmas we started some events including

Flags, Wade races, Sprints and Relays. We also had some fun

along the way with obstacle courses, dodge ball, bull rush and other

games to increase our skills and learnt some valuable information

like what can help to keep us safe on the beach; who can help us if

we get into trouble and what to do; and where should we swim?

We would also like to extend a huge thankyou to all the parents who

volunteered and look forward to more volunteers in the 2019-20 Nippers

season and remember if you want your kids give a whistle and put one

hand in the air.

Under 7’s Age Manager Report

The aim of the under 7's age managers this year was to develop the kids

confidence on the sand and in the waves but most of all to have fun.

Hopefully the kids had a whole heap of fun this year, because the age

managers did over a very enjoyable season.

The under 7's (2018/2019) are a fantastic group of kids and it was

great to see their confidence grow over the summer with both the sand

activities and in the waves.

Some of the kids took to the activities immediately and showed real

speed in the events, I'm sure we'll see them successfully competing over

the years. Other kids took a bit longer to get used to the activities and the

waves and it was fantastic to see them all grow in confidence and have

a great time.

Pretty much all the kids could play happily in the waves by the end of the

season and we were particularly happy to see those who were more than

a bit scared a couple of months ago ducking under the waves like pro's

and riding the waves on the inflatables.

We hope to see you back next season when some of the slower kids will

start catching the fast kids, we'll go deeper in the water and catch bigger

waves to shore!

This year has been a very busy season. Under 8's have been an exciting

age group to work with. The children have been very dedicated to training

and practising their events. Favourite events were flags and sprint racing.

All the age group have been committed to competing in carnivals whether

it be Soldiers, Terrigal or Toowoon Bay. We have some budding athletes

in this age group. The age group has a very strong competitive attitude

with general placings in the top 5 at club or branch carnivals.

Under 8 age group are to be commended on their team work and diligence

to inclusive attitudes with the other nippers. The children are socially

and emotionally engaged, being able to encourage the other nippers to

further their training whether it be sand or water activities. Some of the

children have started the season being weary of water events but now

they are becoming more confident with pushing their skills.

In carnivals it is evident that whether it be boy or girls results that the

placings are getting stronger with the experience and development from

previous carnival results.

Matt and I are very proud to be the age managers for the under 8's

nippers' group. It has been a rewarding and positive outcome for us.

We are excited to be developing our awareness and skills that we can

incorporate into the training sessions on Sunday mornings. The children

have been a delight to work with. We have been blown away by their

confident and courageous attitudes to their training. The children have

been developing their instructional skills whilst training on Sunday

mornings. It will be a great to see their progress into the next season.

Under 9’s Age Manager Report

This year saw us start with eager boys and girls all wanting to learn new

skills in the sand and water.

It was great to see a see the kids returning from last season, but great

to see new faces.

The season started off with challenging conditions which meant that we

had to do a lot more sand events, learn about rips and beach safety.

Weekly the kids continued to ask when they could go on the boards and

swim.

When we finally were allowed to set them free into the water, the kids

took it in their stride and jumped in. The ones that weren’t so sure still

managed to stand in the water and contemplate what they wanted to do.

We had many kids show their prowess on the sand and others in the

water. This made it a hard season for Brodie, Sean and I to keep everyone

busy.

We took it in our stride and got the kids running, diving, paddling,

swimming and having fun on a weekly basis. It was awesome to see the

smiles on their faces.

As Age Managers, we have all seen the kids grow as the season went on.

Some of the new kids who started off quiet, are now full chatterboxes,

smiling and have all made new friends.

We would like to thank Zoe for helping to fill in the gaps when needed on

a weekly basis. Also a thank you to Craig Adams whom officiated at every

carnival for us this season which meant that all our kids could compete.

Again, on a weekly basis, the parents that stood in the water, kept the

kids in control, signed them in/out and helped everywhere in between,

we thank you.

We hope the kids had just as much fun as we did, and we all hope to see

you next season.

Under 10’s Age Manager Report

For our under 10's, this year's nipper season has been full of challenges

with a huge improvement in water confidence on last season. We had

our regular members return and welcomed some new faces, Brad and I

could not be happier with the amount of effort and sportsmanship seen

during the course of the 2018-19 season.

Congratulations to Our U10's Club Champions and placegetters, also to

all our teams and individuals who did a fantastic job representing Shelly

beach at various carnivals and events this season.

It was fantastic to see the individual self-confidences grow each week,

with some challenging conditions early in the season, (seemed each

Sunday morning was possessed) when the weather and surf calmed

it was great to see the improvements made through the club training

sessions and off/preseason training.

Big thank you to David Smith for keeping our little speedsters speedy

including some branch medals and state finalists, Iva and Michael for

their Board and swim training sessions on Thursday's without your

knowledge and guidance our little legends wouldn't have the confidence,

to be where they are now, to all our senior members assisting with

Saturday training, we couldn't do it without your help.

Last but not least to our all our parents for your help and effort through

this year's season, we have a great group, Brad and I thank you for all

the water safety provided, drop offs and pickups, set up and take downs

and supporting your kids in the way you do, It's a team effort and I feel

privileged to be associated with such a fine bunch of kids and families.

Thanks again for all your help and support this season. Congratulations,

well done and what a great team effort.

We can't wait to see you all again for the 2019-20 season.

Under 11’s Age Manager Report

Another great season for 2018-2019!

The Under 11's were managed with the assistance of two lovely ladies, being Casey Goy & Jade Crook. I would like to thank them for assisting me and for all their endeavours throughout this season.

Casey has put in endless hours over the past season, forwarding the training schedules and keeping everyone informed of weekly events. She ensured that all communications were circulated to all our families.

Jade participated in various activities, from being an Age Manager, to part of the Water Safety team, to being a mentor and more often than not, a competitor alongside our Under 11's. To both of you, my warmest and sincerest thanks once again

I would also like to thank the parents, grandparents and family members that assisted during the past season. If it wasn't for your support, the kids wouldn't have had the opportunity to become surf aware and compete in an organised, fun and friendly environment. At the various carnivals it was great to see all the family members cheering and encouraging from the sidelines and not only their child, but the various teams that competed on behalf of Shelly Beach.

Also, I would like to extend my thanks to the board, water safety, IRB crews, first aid, Patrol teams and other volunteers that attend week in, week out and make all this possible. I am extremely proud of how the all the children participated and competed each week. On behalf of Casey, Jade and myself, I would like to make a special thank you to the kids, that we have been so lucky to have worked with, over the past season. Their desire and determination, to learn and progress to achieve their goals, however large or small they may have been, made them a pleasure to train. I would like to personally thank you all, for an enjoyable year.

This season has brought a mixed set of results for the our Under 11's. We had some great team highs and individual brilliance, but we also had our fair share of lows. We also had several children leave Nippers, but also had the inclusions of Rory Sohier and Tamara Napier (both from North Entrance), to our group.

The season commenced slowly, with our first test being the traditional carnival at Umina in November 2018. The U11 girls had Rebecca individually finishing 4th in the Under 11 Female Surf Race and combining with Molly, Kianna and Tamara, to place a commendable 5th in the Under 11 Female Surf Team final. The U11 boys individually saw Rory finish 3rd in the Under 11 Male Beach Sprint, 3rd in the Under 11 Male Iron Man and a 1st in the Under 11 Male Surf Board Race, with Duncan finishing 2nd in the Under 11 Male Surf Race. Rory and Duncan also combined to finish 4th in the Under 11 Male Surf Board Rescue, which was a stunning result as this was a new event to both boys and Rory had only just joined SBSLSC. Rory and Duncan were joined by Xavier to compete in the Under 11 Male Surf Board Relay and walking away with a 3rd place in the final. The three boys were joined

by Tom Barry from the Under 10’s, to finish 2nd in the Under 11 Male Surf Team event. Duncan, Rory, Rebecca and Kianna combined to compete in another new event to the group, being the Under 11 Mixed Cameron Relay and finished with an admirable 6th place for their efforts.

After a few more Nipper's events and further training, our next test came at the December 2018 carnival in Terrigal.

All the kids put in promising performances, with some close encounters. The girls individually, were still trying to make their mark. In the team events, there were signs that the girls were getting into their rhythm, with Kianna, Rebecca, Molly and Tamara just being edged out of the medals, to claim a commendable 4th in the Under 11 Female Surf Team final. The U11 boys individually saw Oliver finish 4th in the Under 11 Male Beach Sprint, Rory finish 6th in the Under 11 Male Iron Man and a 6th in the Under 11 Male Surf Board Race, with Duncan finishing once again with a 2nd in the Under 11 Male Surf Race. Rory and Duncan once again combined to finish another spot higher with a 3rd in the Under 11 Male Surf Board Rescue. Rory and Duncan were joined by Taj to compete in the Under 11 Male Surf Board Relay, once again walking away with a 3rd place in the final. Duncan, Rory, Xavier and Oliver also claimed a 4th in the Under 11 Male Surf Team event. Duncan, Rory, Rebecca and Kianna once again combined to compete in the Under 11 Mixed Cameron Relay and once again finished with an admirable 6th place for their efforts. Rory also had a great showing in the All Age Beach Relay, with Shelly Beach finishing a strong 6th in the event.

So, Christmas came and went. We were next challenged at Toowoon Bay in January.

Yet again, the girls gave it their best, both individually and in the team events, but the medals and placings eluded them. The U11 boys individually saw Rory finish a great 2nd in the Under 11 Male Iron Man. Rory and Duncan managed to get some fulfilment in the Under 11 Male Surf Board Race, placing 4th and 5th respectively. Duncan finished with a 3rd in the Under 11 Male Surf Race, with Rory joining him in 4th. Rory and Duncan once again combined to finish with a 3rd in the Under 11 Male Surf Board Rescue, with Taj and Oliver combining to finish a terrific 5th place in the same event. Rory, Duncan and Taj competed in the Under 11 Male Surf Board Relay, this time topping the place with a brilliant 1st place in the final. Duncan, Rory, Taj and Oliver also claimed an impressive 3rd in the Under 11 Male Surf Team event. Rory once again had a great showing in the All Age Beach Relay, with Shelly Beach finishing a strong 6th in the event.

Moving on another month or so and it was time for the Branch Carnival at Soldiers Beach.

Individually, the girls managed impressive results given the greater number of competitors at this event, once again giving it all they had. Rebecca individually finished 5th in the Under 11 Female Surf Race and combined with Molly and Kianna, to place a commendable 6th in the Under 11 Female Surf Board Relay final. After competing all day at multiple

events, both Kianna and Molly decided to finish the day with the Under 11 Female 1KM Beach Run. In a large field and to their credit, they both fell over the line with a respectable 24th and 25th place respectively. The boys also managed impressive results individually. Oliver finished with a 3rd in the Under 11 Male 1KM Beach Run, a 3rd in the Under 11 Male Beach Sprint and a 2nd in the Under 11 Male Beach Flags. Rory finished with a 4th in the Under 11 Male Iron Man and a great 3rd in the Under 11 Male Surf Board Race. Duncan finished once again, with an exceptional 3rd place in the Under 11 Male Surf Race. Duncan, Rory, Taj and Xavier also combined to claim an impressive 5th in the Under 11 Male Surf Team event. Duncan, Rory, Rebecca and Kianna once again combined to compete in the Under 11 Mixed Cameron Relay, this time finishing with a magnificent 2nd place for their efforts. Rory once again had a great showing in the All Age Beach Relay, with Shelly Beach finishing a strong 4th in the event.

The final event for this season was the NSW Age Championship titles at Swansea Belmont. I was very proud to have 7 of our Under 11's competing at this event, as so should they be. Individually and as part of a team, they left nothing behind and gave it their best against the best-of-the-best in the state. There were some great individual efforts with both the boys and girls, qualifying for finals and semi-finals and achieving great results. Unfortunately, the competition was too great, with our group failing to turn all their hard work into prominent finishes.

Overall, I was impressed with the determination and 'never give up' attitude from all our competitors throughout this season. I'm sure that if they continue to put in the hard work, it will give this group of competitors further success next season and I am confident next year will be a progression from this season. Well done to all the Under 11's, that have proudly represented Shelly Beach this season.

I would like to thank our JAC Brad Glover and assistant JAC Craig Goy, for all their efforts in making this season so great. I would like to thank all the other personnel that work so tirelessly, week in week out, to enable our Nippers to attend every week.

I would also like to make a special mention to Michael Hyslop and David Smith, who's efforts in organising training sessions for our Nippers to attend, have been invaluable. Michael should also be commended for all his extracurricular activities, in providing the platforms and regimes for the club and competitors.

Under 12’s Age Manager Report

The under 12 of 18/19 season saw great participation week in week out

right from the beginning through to our last nippers fun day a couple of

weeks ago.

A total of 23 kids made up the under 12 group, with many returning

nippers being joined by a few new faces who have been welcomed by

Shelly Beach, resulting in great new friendships and bonds being formed.

We had a number of our nippers get a taste of competition at Branch

level for the first time, with a few of the boys competing at Terrigal and

Toowoon Bay earlier in the season, which bodes well for the age group

moving into next year.

In addition to our regular competitors, Shelly Beach was able to field

multiple girl board teams at carnivals thanks to some new and returning

nippers, while great numbers across the both boys and girls have seen

Shelly Beach be more competitive in the swim, sprint and flag events.

Hopefully the boys who have had a taste, and others who are tempted

will attend more carnivals moving forward.

Our results across Branch and State carnivals have improved enormously

from previous years, a credit to all of our wonderful competitors who

have trained hard and earned qualification into finals and semi-finals at

Branch and State levels.

Attendance to our co-ordinated mid-week and weekend training sessions

has been unprecedented for this group, and whilst most sessions have

been tough, there is always laughter and smiles all round indicative of the

positive culture amongst our nippers.

Special mention needs to be given to all the coaching and management

support over the past season, it is the countless hours volunteered by

everyone involved that makes this club what it is.

In summary, the fantastic group that is the Shelly Beach under 12

have had a great year, we have great numbers, have improved in our

performances, and on the current trajectory should be a force in next

years under 13s!

Under 13’s Age Manager Report

The Under 13s had a great Season with a small but "spirited" group

Turning up every Sunday.

We had loads of fun with both Nippers & Carnivals and loads of progress

was made by everybody, surf conditions meant that we didn't get in the

ocean that often, but when we did the board we paddled and the waves

were ridden.

We also teamed up with the under 14's and it was good to see our kids

being competitive and having fun.

Lastly I would like to thank Carol my fellow age manager from the under

14's for helping me with these great kids, also to the many parents that

have helped Carol and myself during the season.

Thank you to all the kids that turned up during the season having fun and

listening to important Life Saving instruction, we appreciate it.

All the best for your winter sports and hope to see you on the beach next

year.

Under 14’s Age Manager Report

For the 2018/19 season I had the pleasure of being age manager for four

kind and funny young men.

Every Sunday at 8.30am these boys turned up with a positive spirit and

took to the activities with a smile and maximum effort.

This is the first year that they had a chance to ride a racing mal.

It was nerve racking at the beginning of the season and they were picky

about the conditions they would go out in. Eventually they were all brave

enough to have a paddle and compete against each other.

For the nipper days we joined in with Janine and the Under 13's.

They were a great bunch of kids and the two age groups got along well.

Some of the patrols got quite crowded as these friendships grew and

they wanted to do extra patrols with each other. Apologies to the Patrol

Captains for that.

These boys also got involved in rookie activities where they could, and

embraced the spirit of competition and friendship.

I wish the Under 14s of the 2018/19 season all the best in their future,

in surf club and elsewhere.
