Scholars Program
The Scholars Program is a distinctive academic community within the larger Shasta College campus. The Scholars Program philosophy is to promote mastery of subject matter demonstrated through writing, research, critical thinking, and analysis. The Scholars Program coursework provides students with the educational background essential to university-level work. This Program aims to prepare students for transfer to the colleges and universities of their choice.

Scholars Program Requirements
Freshmen Eligibility - Students with no college coursework or less than 18 units completed. Must have a minimum cumulative 3.0
grade point average in high school Must be eligible to take English 1A Students with foreign records must
complete 12 college units at a U.S. institution before applying

Exit / Certification Requirements
In order to receive “scholars” certification from Shasta College, students must complete the following: Complete a minimum of 15 units in Scholars
courses. At least three (3) Scholars courses must be
completed at Shasta College Only Honors/Scholars courses taken at HTCC
(Honors Transfer Council of California) partner schools (http://htcca.org/membership/) may be used for certification purposes and they must be designated as "Honors" on the transcript of record from that institution
Meet with a Scholars counselor once a semester
Maintain membership in the Scholars Program for a minimum of 2 semesters. (Students should minimally be in their second semester of attendance in the Scholars Program by the time they are applying to transfer)

Scholars Program: Application
The application period for Fall 2016 program admission will begin on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. The deadline to receive all complete application packets is Tuesday, May 17, 2016.
1. Provide transcripts showing the minimum requirement of a 3.0 GPA. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable. 2. Provide proof of English 1A eligibility. 3. Supply one letter of recommendation from an instructor or counselor. 4. Provide a 500-word essay. Tell us who you were, who you are and who you would like to be.

Specialized Classes – selected from the IGETC list (UC/CSU general education requirements)
Students are required to demonstrate a mastery of subject matter through writing, research, critical thinking and analysis.
Class size limited to 25 students.
Enrollment Priority – Block 2
Dedicated Counseling Services / Specialized Workshops / English tutoring
