A letter from our President, Diana Clayton

Dear Shasta Miners and Prospectors: Last month, Bill Harn's presentation was and eye opener. Keep tabs on Minerals & Mining Regula-tory Reform Act – A Clear Path Respecting Mining Rights a copy of the bill can be located at www.mmacusa.org. This may the best approach yet for miners.

The recent passage of SB 637 is a big disappointment to min-ers. The full bill can be found at the above link. This takes effect in Jan. 2016. We are trying to get someone from Fish and Game to speak on this, but so far no one wants to talk about It. Mark Stoffer with Fish and Game said they are not allowed to comment, all inquires go to the Sacra-mento Office. In the meantime we plan to least have an overview and open discussion of this bill at he Nov. 19 meeting.

Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays are upon us. Everyone should have received their Christmas Party RSVP form and also received a bundle of raffle tickets. We are starting to get returns already. We have very nice raffle prizes so we hope you buy as many as you can. More prizes will be added. Enclosed in the newsletter is the ballot for the yearly election of offi-cers, board members and for the miner of the year. If you can’t make the meeting please send your ballot to us. I hope to see you at the meeting and if I don’t may your Thanksgiving be a joyous affair. Diana

Guided Metal Detector Outings: Guided metal detecting outing usually occur on the Second Sat. morning after our

regular scheduled meeting. The location of the hunt is announced at the general meeting. If you are unable to attend the meeting please contact Bill Doyle, Metal Detecting Chair. Email: [email protected] or call (530) -549-3039

October Metal Detecting Outing

The October outing was held at Shastice Park in Siskiyou County. The park, located in the City of Mount Shasta City, is a 38 acre

park with several large picnic areas, a large playground, and softball field, a multi-purpose field, an ice rink, tennis courts, and an off

leash dog park.

Needless to say there are large groups of persons engaged in various activities and therefore possible lost coins and jewelry. There

were 9 persons attending the outing including Bob Hill, Gary Smoot, Bill Fisher, Tony and Cindy Loftus, Phil and Betty Leas, and

Susan and me.

This outing was a good learning experience for many of the participants and a good hunting day for veteran detectors.

All those in attendance went home with some coinage and I was fortunate to have recovered a small child’s sterling silver ring.

I will be scouting out new sites for future outings and will advise of the location of the November Outing at the November general

Meeting.
