Dr. Sharon Warren Cook is an associate professor in the department of social work and sociology. She received her PhD from the University of
North Carolina at Greensboro, her MSW from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her BA in Psychology from North Carolina Central University. Dr. Cook has been at NC A&T SU since 2009.
She has held numerous administrative roles including Executive Director,
Center for Outreach in Alzheimer’s, Aging and Community Health (COAACH); Interim Chair, Department of Sociology and Social Work,
Interim Co-Director; Joint Master of Social Work Program; Director of the Undergraduate Social Work Program; and, Special Assistant to the Dean for
Assessment and Special Programs. Dr. Cook’s research areas include Alzheimer’s and Dementia, Health Disparities in the African American
Community, Community Based Participatory Research, Diversity/Cultural Competence, Empowerment and Qualitative Research Methods Program Evaluation-Human Services and Ethno-geriatrics.
She has published broadly in these areas and has received funding to support
her work. As the Interim Associate Dean for Research and Institutional Effectiveness, Dr. Cook will support the interim Dean in the development of
a new College. Specifically, she will provide oversight for faculty research from pre-award to post award. She will also be responsible for reviewing Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure and Promotion, Tenure and
Reappointment guidelines while identifying assessment tools to support faculty efforts towards advancement along the professorial rank. She will
also be responsible for supporting the development of departmental assessment plans, the College Student Success Plan and the
development/design of benchmarks and data mapping.
