Planned work
to be executed
• Allow for participants having different backgrounds and thus
not the same ability for interpreting data
• Allow for knowledge sharing
• Visualize history, consensus and implications
• Provide an overview of the planned activities

in phase 1 of the IO Center by IFE

IO1 Teamwork and Capabilities
Findings from the usability study 1/2
• IO-MAP fills an important function in visualising risk
factors in connection to tasks and location, offering
an extra highlight and reminder of these on the map.
• Visualization may help onshore staff with limited
offshore familiarity to align to the existing offshore
setting.

IO1 Teamwork and Capabilities
Findings from the usability study 2/2
• The findings from the usability study of the first
version of the tool showed that users could more
easily share understanding and communicate
through a shared visualization.
• Such tools can help simplify the day to day operation
in the way that information is gathered in one place
and it allows users to see relations and possible
outcome of the job planning.

IO1 Teamwork and Capabilities
On-going study:
• Explore the relation between high quality plans for
offshore maintenance and operational activities and
major accident prevention.
Assumption:
• Low quality planning processes lead to low quality
plans, which in turn increase the risk for major
accidents.

IO1 Teamwork and Capabilities 12
• Maintenance management is illustrated as a work
flow where products are produced with low HSE risks
and high production performance [NORSOK Z-008].
• A high quality plan shall make it possible to execute
the work in a safe manner, without accidents, and
make it possible to deliver a finished work
state/product that can be operated safely.
IO1 Teamwork and Capabilities 13
What are attributes of high-quality plans vis-à-vis
preventing major accidents?
How should the planning process be organized to
promote development of high-quality plans?
• The plan is robust and is comprehensible to its users
• Description of task execution includes contributions from all
disciplines and parties
• All safety issues have been resolved
• Allow time and avoid pressure
• Competence
• Involvement
• Communication
• Feedback loop
