What’s Most Important?
Trust–
What is it?
How do we earn it?
Respect—
What is it?
How do we show it?
Bring the following items to class everyday
Pen and/or pencil

Independent Reading Material
An Open Mind
The beginning of class…
Enter the classroom Quietly and follow the instructions on the board in the order in which they appear. The time limit indicated on the opening slide will begin as soon as the late bell rings. You are expected to be ready to begin our class discussion as soon as the timer runs out.
1
Copy the homework and Important Dates in your agenda. Random Agenda checks will take place and can earn (or lose) points for your class.
2
After you update your agenda, you should complete your opening assignment. Be careful to watch your time. You are expected to have everything completed when the timer goes off.
3
Read your independent reading material while you wait for others to finish. Random book checks will take place that can earn (or Lose) points for your class.

Helpful Hints
You’re expected to be in your seat and working on your opening activity by the time the bell rings. Remember to watch the timer to monitor your time for the opening activity.
If you need to sharpen your pencil, you can just get up and do so as long as you don’t disrupt the class on the way. The same goes for tissues.
Pencil sharpeners as well as tissues (with hand sanitizer) are located on both sides of the room. Please use the supplies closest to your assigned seat to avoid disruption.
Helpful Hints
No passes out of the room will be issued for the first and last 10 minutes of class. If it is truly an emergency, then you have to use an emergency pass!
Emergency Passes must be used at all times other than independent work time. This includes, but is not limited to, whole class instruction and group work. If you must leave the room during an assessment (quizzes/tests), you must use an emergency pass.
Extra supplies can be found on both sides of the classroom. Please use the supplies that are closest to your desk and use them sparingly. Supplies are limited by the six week period.
Helpful Hints
You should check the blog for all of your make up work. If there is a handout you need, or if you have a question about a specific assignment, please see me during homeroom. We may not have time during class, and I don’t want you getting further behind.
You are responsible for getting and turning in all work missed during an absence. You should turn all of your make up work into the make up work tray located in the front of the classroom.
If there is any reason (including absence) you are not turning in an assignment, you must fill out a missing assignment reflection. Please be sure to read and follow all instructions on the missing assignment reflection sheet in order to turn late work in for partial credit. Work turned in due to absence will not receive a point deduction as long as it is turned in within the allowed time. All late work should be dated and turned into the late work tray located in the front of the classroom.
Binder Set-Up
You will have five sections in your language arts binder:
Reading
Writing
Grammar
Vocabulary
Poetry
There will be certain pages in your binder that will be used throughout the year so it is a good idea to put them in protective sheets. I will always let you know when you can get rid of something in your binder.
Supply List
These are the supplies you were informed about at the beginning of the year. You are not expected to purchase new supplies. It is a good idea, however, to make sure you haven’t lost or run-out of any items.
