Pillar 1 is dead and pillar 2 will bereconstituted andDieterdidnotbelieve in the futurewewill receive£3b intoBritishAgriculture;maybe£1billion,maybeless.
Dieter stated that in his view there is no part of British agriculture that iscompetitiveonaworldtradebasis.TheeconomicbasisofBritishfarmingwillbefundamentallyunderminedbyoperatinginaglobalmarket.Hefeltthatfarmersshould not worry about subsidies but instead should worry about the tariffs.Uplandfarminginthiscontextisextremelyvulnerableandisnotcompetitive.The first step for the uplands is to create a balance sheet of assets and thinkabout how we value them.
