This book is the direct result of my husband'spersuasion. It was his desire that my poems bepublished and little did he know that I would set downseriously to accomplish just that! I have hence forth,immensely enjoyed torturing him (and a large number ofmy family and friends) consistently with my poems andtheir repeated repetitions for the past few months.However, the deed is done and this book is finallyformed!

In this day and time when we try to sneak in a fewmoments alone of solace and quiet from our busyschedules, I have been lucky and blessed enough tohave friends who have spared special moments andguided me through this difficult but exciting attempt atpoetry. Charismatic human being.

And above all 'The Perfect Citizen'!

Respected APJ Abdul Kalam,

Dear Sir,

On 27 July, year of 2015,

you made me cry,

and the entire nation did weep,

a common sadness over all did sweep.

We lost you Sir!

Your mortal form.

But your memories

stay with us,

immortal and strong.

My little kid asked,

why I looked so glum?

When I told her,

she wanted information some.

Wasn't he once our President?

The favorite one mom?

Yes, I told her,

That's why he was called 'People's President' by all!

Her little face lit up! Head tilted in awe.

I told her then,

that you were a scientist first,

India's 'Missile Man' they called!

Tell me more, more please dear mom!

She jumped up and down, my sprightly little doll!

And I told her the story,

from the day you were born.

It was October the 15 ,1931.

India wasn't yet independent,

but a future President was born.

In beautiful Rameswaram,Madras down south!

There he grew up a humble, happy, kind soul.

With hard work and dedication,

he kept on progressing.

His mettle did score.

A scientist, a politician,

social worker and writer.

Unusually talented,

a brilliant scholar and master!

Pride of India,

he was bestowed highest awards.

Bharat Ratna, Padma Bhushan,

Padma Vibhushan, his just rewards!

I smiled at my daughter's confused gaze!

She didn't comprehend the value the awardsencased.

It was enough to understand, I told her,

it meant you, were the finest amongst the very best!

But he was more sweetie,

a most beautiful soul.

A gentleness and kindness,

an angelic heart all pure!

He exuded humanity and humility,

his simplicity touched scores.

Most modest, yet bold,

he was loved by young, children and old.

And the 'Perfect Citizen',

is what he taught us to be.

Only excuses can stop us,

his life proved as we can see.

Daring and caring,

extraordinary and more.

Noblest of the noble,

may god bless him to the core!

Forever he will touch us,

even after life.

As he was not just a human,

he was an entire way of life!
