“The only conference that brings the most significant dialogue between government bodies, national & international oil companies, independent exploration & production companies, technology providers, service & consulting companies on

the present global dynamics of Shale Gas and Unconventional Gas as well as shaping its future.”

Has the emergence of unconventional gases changed the gas market today? What used to be a global dominance in the gas industry has now taken a drastic change; thanks to the breakthrough in unconventional gas across America. Does it stop there? Many discoveries and developments are now taking place in Asia, Europe, Middle East and selected African countries, whether its shale gas, coalbed methane, tight gas or gas hydrates. China who is one of the biggest importers of conventional gas now realizes the huge potentials of CBM & Shale Gas. Will China continue to rely on conventional gases, or will China’s future developments of this unconventional gas reserves threaten the very existence of conventional gases? How will India fare in the unconventional gas world given its recent acquisition of shale gas in the US? Will Indonesia go forth with shale gas exploitation to meet the growing energy demand? What should Petronas observe for investment and funding for the growth and expansion of shale gas & CBM in Australia? Will shale gas transform UK’s energy policy? Will concerns of environmental damage hinder the production and development of shale gas in Europe? What are the potentials for unconventional gas in Africa & Middle East and what are the main challenges faced in these developments? What this summit serves to do is to bring you the latest developments, market trends & trade movements, clarifies regulatory uncertainties, educate you about the best practices for expansion of unconventional gas, what are the cost and return of investments of such exploitations, financing and investing opportunities & outlook, what are the environmental implications of exploiting these reserves, what are the opportunities and challenges faced, the importance of strategic partnership as well as mergers & acquisitions in the growth and development of unconventional gas reserves, the effects on gas pricing, the use of unconventional gas for power generations, the impact of unconventional gas on LNG, what are the leading technologies to accelerate the growth of shale gas & CBM. Hearing from a panel of experts who actively deals with the unconventional gas market, you will be exposed to in-depth insights of major domestic and international markets addressing the best strategies, approaches, techniques, innovations as well as the current and future market of unconventional gas in spite of the recent economic conditions. This summit will also serve as a platform for all national, international and independent companies to network and share business ideas and experiences. The following key themes on Shale Gas & Unconventional Gas will be addressed in-depth with several Case Studies

Analyzing the impact of shale gas in the USA / Canada and the developments in Asia. Understanding why Asia is regarded as the hottest market for Shale gas

9.00 Chairman’s Opening Address 9.10 Shale Gas in Europe: What will make it go?

Background is huge increase in shale gas production in the USA (‘Dash for Gas’) and recent reserve estimates for worldwide shale gas at 16000 TCF

Interest in large basins and ‘compliant’ countries in eastern Europe – particularly Poland. ‘coal-CCS’ might be superceded by an easier ‘gas without CCS’ lower carbon future (particularly if gas is home-grown shale gas). It might change the game in Poland, Ukraine and other coal-dependent economies that cant afford the ETS. It might also make shale gas more attractive in Britain, Germany and France.

A large resource of shale gas is needed to offset production and waste water disposal costs. Public acceptance is also an issue.

More research needed on genesis of organic matter and its influence on gas generation in mudstones.

The political dimension – will government intervention to champion home-grown gas for security

override cheaper conventional gas from outside? At present shale gas will only go fast in the USA. In Europe at the moment there are cheaper conventional gas sources from Russia and LNG from Qatar. Dr. Mike Stephenson, Head of Science, Energy, British Geological Survey

Exploitation of abundant reserves of underground coal to generate clean power through in-situ combustion underground . Technology suitable for inferior grade coals like lignite and coals with high ash content. In-situ combustion process underground , converts the products of combustion directly to Syngas which can be produced through conventional wells and this gas can be used to generate power in combined cycle mode. The resulting flue gas from the boilers contain insignificant amount of CO2 and NOx and is environment friendly. Does not require carbon dioxide sequestration. Installations can be near the well heads requiring no transportation of fuel to distant power plants. The generated power can be connected directly to power grids

Underground Coal Gasification (UCG) Technology. Advantages of UCG Alternatives in use of Syngas Thermal efficiency of the UCG and power generation Cost benefits of the system Environmental Impact assessment of UCG A short case study.

• How the public sees developments • Different 'publics' • Being sure of the science • Communicating the science

To explore the range of public attitudes to subsurface usage including unconventional gas, gas storage and carbon capture and storage; and to develop ways to engage the public, nationally and locally, in these issues.
