Summary
Shakespeare’s Secret by Elise Broach is about a girl named Hero and her family and how they just moved into the Murphy diamond house. When Hero meets her neighbor Mrs. Roth she finds out that there is a 500 year old diamond missing in her house and it is up to her to find it. Through Mrs. Roth she meets Daniel (otherwise known as Danny.) Anyway when Hero’s parents leave to go to some auction Danny comes over and helps Hero find the diamond. Well, they found it but it was in a place you would never imagine a diamond would be hidden. If you want to know more then you will have to read the book.
Plot
1. Hero and her family move into the Murphy diamond house.2. Hero meets Mrs. Roth.3. Hero finds out about the diamond.4. Hero meets Danny and becomes good friends with him.5. Hero and Danny find the diamond.6. Some surprising and shocking things happen but I can’t tell
you, so you will just have to read the book.
Setting
This book takes place in Maryland. There are 3 different places
1. Ogden Elementary School2. The Murphy diamond house ( A.K.A Hero’s new house.) 3. Mrs. Roth’s house
Characters
The Characters are…1. Hero- 6th grade, quiet, shy, brown hair, and named after Shakespeare.2. Beatrice- 8th grade, outgoing, popular, long hair, also named after
Shakespeare. 3. Danny- Nice, handsome, popular, and kind.4. Mrs. Roth- Kind, old, friendly, smart, and inviting.5. Mom- concerned, loving, and likes to cook.6. Dad- works hard, smart, likes to read, loves Shakespeare.7. Aaron- young, cute, thinks Hero’s famous.8. Tory- embarrassed of what she did to Hero and friendly.
Theme
One theme for this book would be… Nothing ever turns out to be what you expect.
The reason I think this would be one theme is because in the book there are a lot of exciting things that
happen but they never turn out the way the characters thought they would.
