SHAFT SINKING EQUIPMENT When initially fabricated in 2002, the Bore Hole Hoisting System consisted of a 180 kW hydraulic powered winch and headframe mounted over a 1.4m diameter raise bored hole. Waste from an adjacent horadiam shaft was hoisted up the 330m deep bore hole in a 4.8 tonne capacity unguided kibble at approximately 2m per second and tipped on surface. It was converted to a shaft sinking system in 2005 and used to sink a 140m deep, six metre diameter concrete lined shaft at Ballarat. Headframe This is a conventional 4 legged headframe. It is of modular construction with all components designed to fit inside a standard shipping container. When erected it stands 13.6 metres high with a footprint of 11.6 metres by 5.6 metres. A clear height of 11.6 metres will be available from the shaft collar to the bottom of the crash beams. Kibble Winch The kibble is hoisted by a 180 kW hydraulic powered winch with a rated line pull of 78.4 kN. Hydraulic power is supplied to the winch from a stand alone twin 90 kW powerpack. This powerpack also contains all of the safety circuits for the winch. The winch is controlled using a joystick mounted on a console located at the operator’s station beside the winch and powerpack. From this station the operator has a clear view of both the shaft collar and winch drum. The winch has two independent calliper brakes, each capable of holding 200% of the winches rated maximum payload. The callipers act on a single disc. The brake callipers are spring applied using hydraulic pressure to lift the pads from the disc. The brakes are controlled by a separate power pack mounted on the main hydraulic power pack which has two separate brake circuits. The brakes are operated automatically when the Joystick returns to the neutral position or if the safety circuit is tripped. Operational breaking is via the hydraulic motor. The winch has a separate indicator stand which has a Simplex Logan Lilly Hoist Controller. This is connected via shaft drives to the drum. Kibble position is indicated on the sun dial of the controller while a centrifugal governor housed within the controller monitors overspeed. Indication of overspeed will stop the winch and apply the calliper brakes.

Distance from the shaft center line to the winch is 22.8 metres giving a resultant fleet angle of less than 1.44 degrees. Stage Winch The stage will be on a 7 tonne double drum winder powered by a 45kW powerpack. The stage will be supported by two single falls of rope. Limit Switches The system has three upper limit switches installed. The lowest of these upper limits will be used as a parking limit to accurately locate the kibble for tipping on each cycle. This is activated by the rope attachment lifting a collar around the rope as the kibble comes into position and so tripping a pressure switch mounted on the sheave deck. The “Penultimate Overwind” limit switch is mounted on the hoist controller and will stop the winch and apply the brakes if activated. The top “Ultimate Overwind” limit switches are mounted below the crash beams and if hit will stop the winch, apply the calliper brakes and turn off the power to the powerpack. A key system will then be required to restart the power pack and the winch can only operate in the reverse direction to wind the kibble back down. A lower ultimate underwind limit switch is mounted on the controller. This will stop the winch and apply the calliper brakes if activated. Ropes The Kibble winch is wound with a 24mm Non Rotating rope with a Minimum rope break (Mrb) of 551 kN and nominal mass of 2.75 kg/m. A rope safety Factor of 8 has been used to select the above rope in line with MDG33 Guidelines “Drum Winders”. A resin filled socket and Pin is used for rope attachment and a chase block inserted to prevent rope kink in the event of slack rope. The stage winch will have 20mm rope with the final specification of the rope and attachments to be advised. All ropes will be new with the appropriate test certificates. Kibbles Two purpose built, 1.2 meter diameter circular kibbles equipped with a bridle and monkey will be used. This will have a designed payload of 4.8 tonne. A mushroom plate is attached to the bottom of the kibble to assist in tipping the kibble on surface.

Surface Tipping and Stockpile The kibble is tipped on surface by catching the mushroom on the bottom of the kibble, in a sliding, notched catch plate mounted on a moving trolley, and upending it using a swivelled joint. Movement of the catch plate and trolley is activated through the use of hydraulic motors mounted on the trolley, and controlled by the winch operator. Power to the trolley motors is provided from a small independent hydraulic powerpack. The tipped material either falls into an excavated ramp beneath the back legs of the headframe from where it can be mucked to the designated dump site using a front end loader, or directly into tip trucks if a larger bay is excavated. Workstage This is a purpose built Workstage for use anywhere along the shaft’s length. Is current diameter is 4.2m and would be suitable for the 5.5m diameter shotcrete lined shaft that you propose. It is can be used for a variety of shaft work including ground support, formwork construction, platform cutting, sample collection, services installation or a platform for shotcreting. There is a 1.55m diameter passage in the centre of the stage with guides so that it does not foul the movement of the kibble and a side passage for services. This is sufficient room for the passage of a mini excavator with the quick hitch boom removed. The workstage is moved slowly by a separate 45kw winch. For stability the work stage is supported by two falls of rope. Typical Installation The following pictures detail a typical installation of this system applied here to sink a shaft in Ballarat and the winches proposed for your project by AWH.
