THOUGHT QUESTIONThis week we will read selections from three Torahs. We will read the weekly selection of Tazria, a selection for Rosh Chodesh, as tonight begins the Hebrew month of Nisan, and a special portion that is always read the shabbat that immediately precedes Rosh Chodesh (or coincides with it). What is the power of announcing this new month of Nisan? Why is this specific Hebrew month one to highlight?

EDUCATING ABOUT ISRAELMONDAY, MAY 20, 7:30pm

How do we do it effectively? There is no question that talking about Israel and educating about what Israel, as a land, state, and people is, can be

complex. This conversation will encourage thoughtful dialogue about how we simultaneously instill a love of Zionism with an understanding of how the

issues of the past and the present should be communicated.

MEKHIRAT CHAMETZ - THE SALE OF LEAVENJewish law prohibits the use or legal possession of chametz, leaven of any kind, on Passover. In order to be certain that all chametz has been removed from our possession, Jewish tradition requires us to sell our remaining chametz to a non-Jew. This chametz then becomes the property of the non-Jew for the duration of Passover and should be set aside in a place in one’s home that will be unused during the holiday.

The authorization of the right to sell chametz can be granted to another individual. Rabbi Ain will be available for this purpose throughout the period leading up to Passover. For those who cannot attend to this mat-ter in person, you may authorize Rabbi Ain to sell your chametz. Please visit www.spsnyc.org/passover or call the office by Thursday, April 18 before 5:00 pm.

To symbolize that one is transferring the authority to sell, it is customary to make a token money transfer. The money contributed will be used to provide needy families with Passover necessities. If you send a check, please make it payable to Sutton Place Synagogue - Passover Fund.
