Dear Colleague:

Since 1883 Sculpture House has been known for its exceptional quality and high standards in producing fine sculptor's tools, materials and accessories. We continue, in this third genera-tion, to uphold these exacting standards coupled with the additional effort to reduce our carbon footprint on the world. Although this is a great challenge we accept this mission wholeheartedly and will strive to create a culture of environmental responsibility within our production and office facilities.

This, our latest Catalog, is but one step we have taken towards meeting this commitment. Printed on recycled paper and using soy inks, our Catalog will be printed less frequently thus re-ducing our paper footprint. Separate Price Sheets will be distributed and updated as necessary.

We hope that you will continue to enjoy our comprehensive line of tools and materials. If you have any special requests from your retail customers or specific needs from instructors of sculpture, please let us know and we'll work with you to fulfill these requests.

As the leader in the manufacture of quality sculpture tools and materials with more than 126 years of experience, we look forward to working with you. Thank you for your past and pres-ent patronage and we will, as always, do our best to serve you.

Sincerely,

Bruner F. BarriePresident/CEO

Air-Hardening Clay

BoneWare

della roBBia

Sculpture House has modernized an antiquated tech-nique of firing ceramic clay with Della Robbia. The complex kiln is no longer necessary. Della Robbia can be baked hard in your kitchen oven at 250 degrees. Learn as others have that Della Robbia is inexpensive and foolproof. Deep rich brown color. When fired can be painted with ordinary paint for matte or glossy fin-ish. For decorative use only. Will not become vitrified like ceramic kiln fired clay.

Boneware, like all moist clays, is easily kept soft and pliable as long as desired if moist with water and cov-ered with a damp cloth while not in use. Finished pieces become bone hard when allowed to dry. No firing, no baking necessary. May be decorated with tempera, oil paints, and enamels. Packed moist and ready to use. Colors: Red, Grey.

The 259 and 284 modeling tools are designed for the larger sweeping motions when working in moist sculp-tural clay and Plastilina. Their contour enables the sculptor’s thumb and fingers to fit naturally with the tool. They are used extensively with head and bust modeling. The 266 and 267 modeling tools are designed for medium detail work around the face and drape lines of a figure when working in most modeling media.

PolisHed HardWood Modeling ToolsDelicate hardwood modeling tools made of the finest wood and polished to a superb finish. Generally used for fine detail work. Their design enables the artist to accomplish work not otherwise achieved with larger model-ing tools and hands.

Nearly 85% of all armatures are lost in the removal and/or mold making & casting processes. Because of this Sculpture House, Inc. has designed a set of fig-ure armatures where the model can be removed from the adjustable backiron so that the base and backiron holding the armature can be reused in future model-ings. While the initial cost of the armature is a little higher than our standard figure armatures, cost sav-ings will be realized by the sculptor in the long run.

Sculpture House has found this knife to be the best for both detail modeling and smoothing all waxes. One end is a traditional rounded solid curve as with earlier-designed wax knives. The other end is a small detailing and cutting knife. Useful to sculptors as well as chasers of wax prior to investment. Ends are made from solid stainless steel; handle is hardwood.

Founded in 1883 as Ettl Studios, Sculpture House, Inc., a U.S. corporation, is

known throughout the world as the

premier source for sculptors’ tools and

materials. With our history of tradition

and manufacturing integrity, we

manufacture and distribute the world’s

most complete line of sculptors’ products

for modeling, stone carving, wood carving,

ceramics, and mold making and casting,

used by professionals and amateurs alike.

Together with Standard Clay Mines, Sculpture Associates and National Sculpture

Services, our consolidated sister companies, our executive offices and a manufacturing

facility, for bulk clay and gypsum products, are located in the Sourland Mountain foothills

just north of Princeton, New Jersey. Highly experienced master craftsmen forge, weld,

and grind, from raw steel, the majority of our tools and stands, as well as produce other

sculpture materials and accessories in our Brooklyn, New York plant.
